Work Text:
Kim Dokja sighed as large palms pressed into his back working the kinks out of his shoulders and lower back. Soft breathy moans spilled from his lips as Yoo Joonghyuk worked a particularly large knot out of his back. He melted deeper into the sheets as he let Yoo Joonghyuk do all the legwork, sighing in content. He could die happy knowing his husband was so good at giving massages, maybe he should get him to start a business.
“Is this really all you want for your birthday?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked, hands not stopping as he continued to massage small circles into his husband's back.
“I wanna take a nap after this too”
“Cuddles?”
“Mmnhmm” Kim Dokja hummed lazily, squishing his face into the pillows as Yoo Joonghyuk worked magic on his sore back. He was practically already asleep by the time Yoo Joonghyuk was done with his massage. He pat Kim Dokja on the ass to get him to flip over but he only sluggishly wiggled around, forcing Yoo Joonghyuk to scoop him up, placing his sleepy husband gently on his chest. Firm forearms looped around his sylphlike waist pressing their bodies even closer as Yoo Joonghyuk draped their comforter over themselves.
“Anything else?”
Kim Dokja could hardly focus with the hazy sleep like fog wrapped around his brain, instead he nestled closer to his husband and yawned. He was perfectly fine with today being wasted on sleepy cuddles and five hour long naps, wasting the day with inactivity. Maybe he’d ask for more kisses when he woke up from his nap, kisses from Yoo Joonghyuk were always nice.
“Spoil me?” he asked sweetly, laughing when Yoo Joonghyuk smothered his face in feather light kisses, rolling them around so that they were lying on their sides.
“I always spoil you Dokja-ya, what else?”
Kim Dokja didn’t know what else to ask for, being able to laze around for a whole day was already a luxury in his eyes. If it hadn’t been for his husband calling him out of work to take him out on a date he would’ve spent the day in the office working again. Holidays like Christmas or Valentines day were easy to think about, it was hard to forget those days when everything about it was advertised for a month straight. But his birthday? That was another thing entirely.
Birthday’s weren’t heavily advertised like the other holidays, birthdays were supposed to be special, intimate, and celebrated with your loved ones. No one needed to advertise for birthdays because your loved ones were supposed to remind you about it for you. Around this time of year Kim Dokja usually forgot his birthday entirely, never bothering with formalities like cake and balloons when he was too busy saving up for next month's rent. Birthdays had always been insignificant to him after middle school, it was just another regular day that he held no emotional value for.
Things were different this year, now he had a lover that loved him to bits and pieces, remembering every single one of their anniversaries. Soon birthdays became a day he looked forward to, a cigarette on the roof was swapped with candles and party blowers, convenience store lunches became five course meals. Yoo Joonghyuk smothered him in so much love and affection that Kim Dokja couldn’t help but think he had been hallucinating things in order to sate his loneliness.
But no, Kim Dokja hadn’t been hallucinating and his husband always went out of his way to make this fact known to everyone. For a man as stoic as Yoo Joonghyuk, Kim Dokja hadn’t expected him to be quite so romantic. Yoo Joonghyuk made sure to show off his husband in every conversation he had, adoringly pulling out photo after photo to shove in the face of any stranger willing to listen.
The thought alone made him want to crawl into a hole in mortification, cheeks twinged a bright shade of red as he remembered his husband's last rant about his eyes. Even his kids didn't embarrass him as much as his husband did and they publicly fought for his attention so much that someone had accused him of brainwashing the two.
“I’m really fine with what we have right now Joonghyuk-ah,” Kim Dokja replied, the faintest hints of sleep still clouding his mind. If he closed his eyes now then maybe he could still take that nap he wanted.
The only warning he got was when his husband clicked his tongue before snugly wrapping Kim Dokja up in their comforter like a giant burrito. He then carried his puzzled husband into the living room and sat him down on the couch, Yoo Joonghyuk left a quick kiss to the tip of his nose before making his way to the kitchen. Kim Dokja listened to Yoo Joonghyuk rifle around in the kitchen, trying his best not to fall asleep before his husband was done.
After a solid five minutes, Yoo Joonghyuk came back into the living room holding up a tray with various goodies laid on it. The tray was set down on the coffee table and Kim Dokja found himself being lifted up and plopped into his husband's lap. Something warm brushed against his lips and Kim Dokja cracked his eyes open the slightest bit to see a dumpling being held out for him to eat.
He let his jaw fall slack as Yoo Joonghyuk fed him the dumpling, thumb swiping up the excess juices before popping them into his own mouth. Yoo Joonghyuk smothered his face in another round of sloppy kisses and Kim Dokja couldn't help the soft laughter.
“What's this for?” Kim Dokja smiled softly, his eyes crinkling at the sides as they lit up with a youthful mirth that Yoo Joonghyuk loved to see. He pressed a quick kiss to Kim Dokja’s lips, savoring the shared taste of his homemade dumplings before answering.
“I’m spoiling you right now so say ah”
Kim Dokja obediently let his mouth open, letting Yoo Joonghyuk feed him another dumpling, drowning Kim Dokja in kisses with every other bite. Once all the dumplings Kim Dokja felt like his stomach was going to explode with how full he was. Yoo Joonghyuk kissed the side of his face, praising him for finishing his entire plate and Kim Dokja flushed in embarrassment. He was a fully grown adult, he didn’t need to be praised for eating all of his food like a child.
“Don't forget dessert Dokja-ya”
Kim Dokja didn’t know how Yoo Joonghyuk managed to dim the lights without having to move an inch, but suddenly the two of them were enveloped in darkness. A single slice of cake with a candle was presented to him and Kim Dokja felt his heart squeeze. There was no way he would ever feel as happy as he was at this very moment.
“Happy birthday Dokja-ya, my companion in life and death and one and only star”
Kim Dokja took a deep breath in, making sure the cake was resting securely on the table before launching himself at his husband, arms wrapped tightly around his neck. Nuzzling into Yoo Joonghyuk’s embrace with misty eyes, peppering his face in kisses until he went dizzy from lack of oxygen.
“Thank you Joonghyuk-ah, this has been the best birthday yet”
Kim Dokja untangled himself from his death grip on his husband and blew out the candle, heart feeling lighter than ever. He was truly lucky to have this man in his life.
