Work Text:
Jake laid on the couch, staring at the ceiling. He was so bored! Amy went out to get some groceries for the week. Jake hadn’t wanted to go with her at the time and he wasn’t little, so he was allowed to stay home alone. Now he kind of wished he had gone with her so he wouldn’t be so bored!
His phone chimed with a new text and he quickly sat up to look at it, hoping for anything that could give him some entertainment. Instead he just groaned. It was a text from Amy with a list of chores she wanted him to do before she got home.
Amy didn’t expect him to actually do all of them, but at least they would give him something to do she knew he had to be bored by now) and hopefully the house would be at least a little clean when she got home.
Groaning, Jake got off the couch and ambled into the kitchen to take out the garbage. After just that one chore, Jake felt like collapsing from boredom. This was worse than just staring at the ceiling! Out of the corner of his eye Jake saw his teddy bear, Mickey, sitting at the dining table where he’d left him after breakfast.
“What was that, Mickey?” He asked. He waited a second for the bear to ‘answer.’ “I do remember ‘A Spoonful of Sugar!’ I can sing that for you while I do my chores!”
When Amy returned home with the groceries she swore she heard Jake screaming! She quickly threw the door open. All of her training as a cop went right out of her brain. The only thing she cared about in the moment was making sure Jake was okay. She only heard his voice anyway, so she doubted there was anyone else inside….
“A SPOONFUL OF SUGAR, oh, hi, Ames!” Jake smiled from where he was doing the dishes.
Amy let out a breath of relief to see he was okay. “You…are actually doing all of the chores I asked you to do?”
Jake stopped. “I didn’t have to?”
“I wanted you to, but I wasn’t sure you’d actually do them all! I’m glad you did.”
“Well, Mickey suggested I sing to him while I did them, so it hasn’t been that bad!”
“Oh, good! Then maybe we can set you up with a weekly chore board.”
Jake groaned. “What! No!”
Amy smirked. “Help me put the groceries away, then I’ll help you finish the dishes.”
“Okay. We should watch Mary Poppins after.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
Jake smiled and resumed singing. “Helps the medicine go down!”
