Chapter Text

Any gift the Miracle had bestowed, the Miracle held.

Casita was the physical embodiment of the miracle. Upon Pedro Madrigal's death the home had been made. Literally summoned out of the void to protect the little family Pedro had left behind. Because that family was supposed to survive. The future held them, so they had to live. The future held Casita so Casita existed. The future had every Madrigal have a gift, so every Madrigal received one.

The Miracle didn't play favorites. No. It wasn't capable of playing favorites. But the one who had triggered the miracle did. Pedro's spirit had influenced the Miracle, and had convinced it to give the only son the best gift. The gift that previously been reserved only for the Omniscient.

Bruno Madrigal was blessed far past his sisters. He was blessed with the gift of foresight.

And so, when he was twenty-one years old, the Miracle gave him a vision. A vision that spilled the biggest spoiler for the future the Miracle knew. How many magical grandchildren there would be. The Miracle couldn't help but feel smug with itself as it saw how happy it's (definitely not) favorite person was when he saw his and his sisters' futures.

Six grandchildren. That was the future that would inevitable come to be. Three for Pepa (she needed all of the happiness in this life after the Miracle had accidentally messed up her gift. It hadn't meant to tie the weather to her emotions! Promise!), two for Julieta (she needed to stop overworking herself. But she still needed more than one kid), and one perfect child for Bruno.

The Miracle couldn't wait until the mini-miracles came!

The first thought the Miracle had after giving Dolores her gift was, Oh... I effed up... It hadn't meant to make Dolores miserable. She had just been so observant already, and was always listening through doors for secrets. The gift of super hearing had just seemed obvious!

When it had given Isabela her gift everything had been perfect. Casita had never looked so good, though it did feel a little weird when Isabela got plants in places they shouldn't be. The Miracle had thought that Dolores would be just as happy to get her gift.

But three out of five times the Miracle had been wrong. Bruno, Pepa, and now sweet little Dolores all hated their gifts. The darling little girl had clasped her hands around her ears the moment her door had formed, and let out a scream so loud that even people outside of the Encanto could probably hear her.

There had been no party for the sweet little girl that night. Instead the family had spent the night comforting the Miracle's (definitely not) favorite grandchild.

But just because they didn't have a part for her that night didn't mean they never had a party for Dolores. After two months Alma judged that Dolores had just enough 'control' or something over her gift to risk having a celebration.

So, for the fifth time, the entire Encanto clambered into Casita, and the party was off.

The Miracle felt something that night. Something that it (and Alma) had been searching for. Casita was twice as happy as it had been before the guests had arrived, because the Miracle felt her.

There, standing at the edge of the crowd, casually sipping on an alcoholic beverage, was the mother of her. It took all of Casita's self control not to throw Bruno into the woman's arms.

Instead he was over on the other side of the room, his own glass held tightly in his hands. It hurt the Miracle to see him like this. He was slowly moving away from the guests and towards his tower. The Miracle would not stand for this. He needed to go to that woman and talk to her. If he was ever to have his little Mirabel (the Miracle loved how similar their names were. If Mirabel was ever allowed to exist, which her father was making sure wouldn't happen. Jerk) then Bruno would need to go strike up a conversation with the one.

So Casita did its thing. As Bruno slid himself more and more towards his room the tiles slid him away. Bruno must have had more alcohol than the Miracle had thought, because he didn't seem to notice what Casita was doing.

Casita did the Miracle's work, and brought the two soon-to-be lovebirds together. Casita literally dumped Bruno at the woman's feet, and Bruno's drink fell out of his hands.

The Miracle never expected her to lead Bruno to her house.

The Miracle had never thought that they wouldn't have fallen in love.

The Miracle might be able to see the future, but it didn't get every detail.

The Miracle never expected Bruno to sleep with a woman he didn't even know the name of.

The Miracle was confused. No one noticed it, but it was frantically trying to figure out what was going on with the future. Mirabel existed now. She was growing inside of a woman that not even the Miracle could name. If all went well she would come into the world in just a few months. But she was supposed to grow up with Bruno! How was a woman who literally hated the man going to give her daughter to him!

But what scared the Miracle the most was one night the woman had figured out, without a shadow of a doubt, that she was pregnant with Bruno's child. The Miracle hoped that she'd go to him, tell him something, talk to him, see that he wasn't the horrible person that people said he was. Then they could fall in love, raise their Mirabel together.

But that wasn't what she decided to do.

That wasn't what was happening.

This couldn't be happening!

The Miracle watched Mirabel's mother, the woman who was supposed to love the little blessing the most, as she splashed into the town river.

Why was she lying face down?

What the hell was she doing!?

It is said that Miracles don't panic. So it must have been Pedro's spirit, because this Miracle was panicking.

It could see little Mirabel, a tiny fetus only a month or so old, who was supposed to live! Mirabel was supposed to live! How dare this... this... bitch try to murder her daughter! And not just her daughter, but Bruno's too! That child was supposed to live!

So the Miracle did the only thing it could. It took the gift that was already starting to develop for Mirabel, and encased the embryo in it. The magic that was supposed to bless Mirabel with supernatural powers was sacrificed to keep her alive.

The Miracle held the baby in it's nonexistent hands as Mirabel's mother was carried away by the current. Bruno's child rested in a safe place, but she needed somewhere to be. A donor. A sponsor that could get her close to her father. A woman who wouldn't mind carrying Bruno's child...

Julieta.

Julieta already had her two children. Pepa was already pregnant with her little chameleon, and the Miracle couldn't give her twins, when she already had trouble with having one kid at a time. Maybe someday the Miracle could figure out a way to explain to her.

The Miracle inspected the tiny baby inside of the magic sack. There were butterflies all over the sphere the Miracle was sustaining. Yes. There was no time to think of the consequences.

Julieta woke up pregnant with a child whose mere survival was a miracle.
