Chapter Text
“Shit shit shit.” He weaved through the alleyways trying to keep himself and his stuff dry. He was kicked out of his father’s apartment, just a few minutes earlier. Now the kid is just trying to find a place to sleep for the night.
Apparently a ten year old Dream is expected to pay rent. He curses out his father for cursing them to sleep on the streets in a rainstorm.
“Fucking dickhead,” He’s on a main road now, Crowlin st. Dream is not far from Puffy’s place, he could try and stay there tonight. “You're the one who spent all the rent money.”
The boy feels the bundle of blankets in my arms stir. He looks, seeing Drista, the newborn sister that was barely a year old. Dream’s breath hitched, Drista was too young to be out here.
He kept walking, passing shop after shop, alleyway after alleyway, hoping he could make it to his final destination sooner.
A bright flash comes from behind him. Dream looks back, an alleyway. Nothing changed, the sound of rain pouring down, wind screaming out. There were no cars, no one would dare be out at this time, not with the Gods so angry.
An infant's cries slowly started to ring out from the once voiceless alley. Dream walks forward. This could be a trap, a mugging waiting to happen, but something in Dream pulled towards the cries. “Hello?” He called only to be met with more cries. He walks farther in.
Dream held Drista tighter to his chest. He would protect her with everything he had. He walked farther and farther down, it never seemed to end.
The crying got louder the deeper Dream ventured. It got darker, the light of street lamps stretching to reach.
Then at the end, a crib. A singliar, worn down crib. Giant damp paper, hung on the front saying ‘FREE’ in black bold letters. From what light allowed, the paint seemed to be chipping and the polls looked like they were barely holding up the weight.
It was coming from there. The crying was wailing now, mommies and daddies, hardly understandable through the tears. Or maybe the rain was drowning out the pleases.
Dream looked inside. He held his breath. A small boy, his tears disappearing amongst the rain on his face. Damp curly blonde hair and a dinosaur onesies. He hasn’t been out long, but how did he get out. There were no windows for him to climb out of.
The boy stared at Dream with his sky blue eyes dispare, his bottom lip quivering. He looked no older than 2.
If you asked why Dream did what he did next, he would never be able to explain it. All he knows is He slowly grabbed the child’s hand, and walked out of the alleyway.
“What’s your name?” Dream’s voice seemed to dance on the raindrops. He looked down, the boy's tears and wails seemed to quiet down. They silently fell from his face. They were close to Puffy’s house now, just a bit longer.
“Tommy.”
The sniffles from Tommy seemed to grow. “Tommy, that’s a nice name.” Dream kept his words as light as he could. He didn’t want to scare the small kid. “I’m Clay, but you can call me Dream.”
“Dream.” Tommy pushed himself closer to the olders leg, holding on as if when he let go he would disappear.
“I wouldn’t leave you Tommy, not ever.” And Dream swore to that. He promised to protect this boy and his sister with all he had.
Dream didn’t question why he found Tommy, or how he got there in the first place. All he knew is that one night, during a rainstorm, he found a small boy in a cradle down an alleyway.
