Work Text:

“Soooo….dads.” Bow shifted nervously from foot to foot. “Glimmer and I are together, and–” Bow paused for the congratulatory squeeing and hugging from Lance and the more stolid clap on the shoulder from George. “--I was thinking of doing something for her. I mean, we’ve always been close, super close, but only as friends. And I want to signal that, you know, things are different.”

Bow held his breath as his fathers shared a look. “First, let me just state that you should feel like you have to do anything,” George began.

“But if you want to do something special, well, a romantic gesture is always appreciated.” Lance nudged George (“I don’t think our son would care to hear exactly how I showed my appreciation for breakfast in bed -” “Dads!!” “--See, Lance?”) “Ahem. So, what did you have in mind?”

“I, uh, maybe writing a poem?”

“Excellent choice, m’boy!” George stroked his chin. “We’ll have to find you some inspiration to play with. Let’s see, there are a few old paeans to She-Ra–”

“N-no!” Bow practically leapt forward with horror. “Definitely would give the wrong impression.”

Lance hummed. “Though you’re not entirely off base, dear. Glimmer is, after all, half-celestial immortal being–”

“Angella’s claims were never submitted for falsification,” George scoffed, triggering a glare of fond exasperation from his husband.

“--and as such, taking and reinterpreting language from mythological sources might be a valid - and, even, uniquely appropriate - method of self-expression,” Lance concluded.

Bow breathed a sigh of relief. For all his dads bickered about various academic quibbles, they were a source of unequivocal love and support: for him, for each other, and for his brothers. It would be nice to reconnect with them, picking over some old manuscripts for an afternoon - he’d been spending a lot of time with the Princess Alliance over the last few years. Not that his efforts hadn’t been needed, but that didn’t make his absence from his dads any less real.

Meanwhile: “Grab some of the scrolls about Desna!” “Do you think these fragments about Tevura are too salacious?” “He’s a grown man! He’ll be fine.” “Not if you keep exposing him to barely canonical works! Honestly, the Lay of Persephone and Lucifer?” “Fine! But we’re only bringing the modernizations of the poems about Andraste - the classical translations are just too…stodgy.”

Bow blinked at the wave of dust thrown up by the massive double armful of manuscripts and scrolls. Well, he had been thinking about spending some more time with his dads…

Notes:

Hey, nobody said they had to be references to real-world mythologies, right? Bonus points if you get all four.
