Work Text:

Sometimes the world is too much for Hyunjin. There’s just too much going on, too much noise, too many people around him, and too many things to worry about.

During these times, Hyunjin feels small and helpless. Like the world is threatening to collapse and engulf him whole and there’s nothing he can do to avoid it. All he can and does do is hide. Curl up in a ball by himself under his covers and wait for the waves to come crashing down.

Jisung knows this. That’s why when he comes home to a quiet house and a lump under the covers of their bed, he lifts the duvet and lets himself wrap his limbs around Hyunjin before covering both of them again.

He doesn’t say anything, just slowly cards his fingers through Hyunjin’s hair while the older buries his face in Jisung’s chest, arms tightening to pull him closer.

Jisung looks at the boy in his arms and thinks: beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful Hyunjin whose heart is as big as the universe itself, who loves deeply and unconditionally, but feels every little scratch and stab as they happen and bleed. Jisung wants to shield Hyunjin from everything bad, but there are things he cannot protect Hyunjin from, wounds that he cannot heal, no matter how hard he tries. All he can do is to be there for his boyfriend as much as he can.

He presses his lips to Hyunjin’s temple, and they stay like this for a while — silent and huddled in each other’s embrace, forgetting any and everything that has been troubling them.

Gradually, he feels Hyunjin relax around him. Jisung brings his palm to Hyunjin’s jaw, gently tilting his face up. Hyunjin’s eyes look glassy, and Jisung can see the faint tear stains on his cheek. He leaves kisses on Hyunjin’s cheekbones, his forehead, his lips. He leaves one more kiss on the tip of Hyunjin’s nose, which earns Jisung the most adorable nose scrunch he’s ever seen. Unable to hold back his smile, Jisung buries his face in Hyunjin’s hair, an action that makes Hyunjin giggle.

The sound is like the sun coming out after a storm. It's pleasant and comforting, but then again, everything about Hyunjin is like that — warm and loving, chasing all the bad things away. When Jisung is with Hyunjin, he feels as though everything will be okay. And all he wants is to be the same for Hyunjin.

Hyunjin wiggles out of Jisung’s chest, eyes slightly crinkled up from his smile, and Jisung is just so in love.

Love. That’s what Hyunjin is to him. Hyunjin is the moon and the stars and everything in between. He is home— accepting, tender, reassuring. He is the sea you see when on a quiet walk along the beach with your lover at sunset. Jisung feels like he’s holding the entire world in his arms, and nothing could ever take it away from him.

He brings their foreheads together and feels Hyunjin nuzzle his nose against his, followed by a quick kiss.

Hyunjin’s eyes are closed, but the beautiful smile remains on his face.

And Jisung thinks things will be alright.

“I love you,” he whispers, ever so softly.

“I love you too.”
