Shikako over-analyzing everything always forever yeehaw

Summary:

Kako is very tired after a long mission, took a very long nap and is now contemplating her brother's growth.

Notes:

yEA so this happens in Care!Kako verse. Kako's older than Shikamaru, their parent are DEAD cause i want them to be and coma ain't as fun.
I was planning on adding dialogue and stuff but the story went rogue so like. whatever will be, will be
And yeah, she shouldn't have shadow state since gelel wouldn't happen on this verse but I'm just gonna ignore that fact and you should too. Plus, its only a single line on that, stop nitpicking ;(
This story is happening after Shikamaru became a genin so she can do longer missions now.....

I think the one who came up with this verse was byebyebriar on the forums but im not sure?
Hm yeah have a good read i think idk. Roast me on the comments if you want to or whatever

Work Text:

Her joints were stiff as she moved around her room.

That usually happens after you sleep too much. It would be a inconvenience if she were in a mission, but then again she wouldn't sleep for that long if she were in one.

It was still inconvenient though. She had a passing thought of running chakra through her body, going into shadow state, doing anything to solve that minor issue, but no, some things didn't require a solution.

She had to brush her hair, get rid of all the tangles. Then she had to braid it and then she had to get properly dressed. Then go prepare breakfast, because while Shikamaru knew how to, that didn't mean he wouldn't procrastinate it for as long as possible.

Maybe she would get to mess with sealing today. She wasn't able to most days, but since her brother became a genin, she had a lot more free time. Long-term missions paid better, not surprisingly, and even his tiny-baby-genin missions would lighten the load on her shoulders. She would maybe make an excessive amount of explosive notes, which would probably make her next mission partner make fun of her. Unless that partner was Anko, then she would just be excited.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her favorite little pineapple-sibling movement in his room. He wasn't awake, of course not, but he was stirring and that meant he would wake up soon. It was certainly a sign that there was something wrong. Maybe she was losing her touch. Maybe he took an extra nap on the day before and wasn't as sleepy. Or maybe, she thought, he was growing up.

It was a nearly scary thought. That he would grow up and not be dependent on her to wake up. It was bound to happen as he started taking missions, but it was still weird to think about.

Truly, her vision of Shika from before wasn't all that different from hers now. He was a young genius without any motivation, and he certainly still is a young genius without any motivation. But she would argue that 'no, he wasn't that much of a genius, there's no way a genius wouldn't be able to remember to turn the stove fire off while cooking rice' and also there was no way her oh so caring baby brother was like that empty husk from the show. Her brother who would angrily attempt to do her tasks anytime he noticed she was too tired, who would nag her about how he was already old enough to help her around the house, already old enough to go to missions and help with the money.

Her old self kept coming back on her thoughts at this time to mutter 'shut up, you're twelve', but that didn't mean anything here. He should be able to help, according to this world's rules.

And yet, as she mindlessly took note of his chakra presence very, very slowly rising from the bed, it truly didn't seem to have changed that much.

She didn't had it in her mind to guide him into becoming the Nara Shikamaru she knew from the show while he was growing up. She ocasionally had anxious thoughts about he not being strong enough to deal with all the problems he would have in the future. She didn't knew the full extends he would have to go in his life, didn't knew what Nara Shikaku would have taught him, if he were alive. She barely trusted the clan with anything, but she knew they would do their best to make him as strong as he would be able to get.

She didn't know exactly how Shikamaru should be, but she did trust her baby brother to deal with whatever problem life threw at him that would not be solved by taking a nap and ignoring it.
