Work Text:
“Are you coming to eat or not?”
Though Hoseok phrased it as a question, you knew there was no question if you would be joining him at the dinner table tonight or not. Skipping dinner together was never a thought when the both of you had the opportunity to be home together for it. His idol life was a lot, as was your own work life. Especially the past few weeks, you had found yourself up to your neck in documents and reports. Mistakes others made handed off to you to fix, and the workload hadn’t even begun to dwindle.
“It’s your favorite”' Hoseok sang, coming up behind you and gripping your shoulders lightly. He peered over you to look at the files stacked up and your computer screen full of words and statistics. He hummed, looking at your heavy eyes and drawn-back hair. “You’ve been at this all day, take a break and have dinner.”
You hummed back, looking up with a frown. “I’m on a roll right now, I can’t stop.” You pouted, if you kept going at the pace you were at you could possibly finish everything by tomorrow afternoon.
“You’re working too hard” he warned, fingers digging into your tense shoulders as he massaged them.
“Just a few more hours” you murmured, mind-shifting back to your work as you began to type again. Hoseok was left to sigh. Working was never an issue between the two of you, both were busy and understood each other's workload and mindset about it, but this was too much, Hoseok thought, even for you.
You were known every now and again to get into these little slumps. Working far too hard while everyone else pushed more on your plate rather than helping. You just got into these mindsets that you had to do it all and do it fast. Even just looking at the stacks of work waiting for you overwhelmed Hoseok, he couldn’t imagine how you were feeling. He could; however, see the wear and tear on you. You were tired. He had gotten home late last night, almost two in the morning, and you were still awake and at your desk drilling away at reports with a grumbling stomach. You were tense, slouched a bit in your chair, bags weighing your eyes down.
“Come on, get up.” His arms hooked under yours as he tried to lift you up to stand. “Come on, it's break time.”
“No- just let me finish this last one-”
“No, no, no. You’ve been like this all week, you deserve a break.”
“I don’t want to take a break though” you groaned, standing up but staying firm in front of your desk. “I can’t right now.”
Hoseok frowned, crossed his arms sternly, and gave you a look. “It’s alright to take a break” he began, “you’re so stressed, do you think being all worked up is going to help get it all done?” He asked, expression softening a bit. “I know better than anyone what stress can do to us, you need to pace yourself. It’s okay, it’ll be waiting for you when you come back.”
“I know” you sighed, shoulders dropping. Hoseok took your hand to walk you out of the room. “It’s just that everyone’s counting on me right now, I don’t want to let them down.”
“They are,” he confirmed, smiling as you pressed yourself into his side for a hug. “They’re counting on you to do your best, not force yourself through it with four hours of sleep and an empty stomach.” You hummed as he rubbed your back. “Don’t feel guilty, let's just have some dinner and relax, okay?”
You mustered a tired smile, following him into the kitchen. “It’s alright to take a break, I promise.” He smiled, “I love you.”
