On the Coast I see my (our) lifeline

Summary:

Corpse is everything you expect from someone who is anti-social, awkward, timid, shy, unable to look into people's eyes, feel like fainting just by stepping foot out of his house.

His friend Rae however had a great idea of inviting new friends to his house.

It can only ever go downhill from here... at least... that's what he thinks

Chapter Text

Corpse is everything you expect from the term: anti-social. He wasn't exaggerating when he had never stepped foot out of his house for years. All he did was make videos and play games.

Rae, his only friend, after making it big, instead of leaving him like he expected, she showed him the ropes and invited him to all these games with her friends.

His favourite has to be Sykkuno, he's awkward, just like him but he's also kind and funny. The one he had the most interest in was Toast however... since he wasn't a noob, he didn't really need any help from him but he found out after playing a few rounds that he is quite witty but also very different from him.

He cannot get a read on his play style... but that's what makes it more fun.

"Toast! You should play together with Corpse sometime! You two look great together!"

Corpse's ears turn pink at Rae's choice of words and cursed at her internally for putting that image in his mind.

However Toast doesn't find the double meaning behind it and said," sure, why not."

Corpse glares at the side of his pc but Rae cannot see him at all. When everyone said their goodbyes, Toast actually dmed him his schedule and asked him if he wanted to play anything in particular but he didn't really need to reply to him if he doesn't want to. Or they could play with other people.

Corpse didn't know how he would fare alone with this guy who is already intimidating enough for him close the app and let him think about it for a whole day.

He took another few hours to internally fight with himself before finally deciding to reply to him even if there was a chance that him not replying on that day was a sign that he doesn't want to and he had made plans.

When he was about to close the app, Toast could see him typing but he didn't expect him to lurk in his dms.

"Corpse, don't be shy, if you want to play I can get you a slot this weekend."

Corpse swore that Toast has some mind reading abilities or have researched his little to no info he gave during his streams. He sighs and sends an edited message.

"Great, see you at 7."

Meanwhile, Rae has a plan for his birthday this year, since she is usually the only one celebrating with him, she decided to call up a few friends.

Corpse ignores the messages that Rae has been spamming him and laughs at his own joke. But Toast has been a good sport and chuckles along with him despite having no idea what he's talking about, he can admit tho, his laugh is kinda cute.

Corpse sighs as he steadies himself and focuses on the game. But Rae's messages have been pretty much screaming at him non stop and groans.

"What's wrong?"

"It's rae... she's been messaging me this whole time and I cannot tab out to see it..."

"Here don't worry, I'll protect your body."

Corpse smiles and gave him a short thanks before hovering over the tab button. But he was slightly shaky, not knowing if he would press anything wrong and he might show Toast something...

Toast was focused on the game he didn't notice that Corpse didn't mute his mic and was heaving a shaky breath.

"Corpse?"

Corpse snaps out of his trance and looks at the screen.

"I'm... fine-"

Toast didn't know what he was on about but knew about his anxiety so he pursed his lips to think about what to say.

"I'll tell Rae off-"

"No no no it's fine... it's probably something urgent... I just n-need to... need to..."

Toast frowns and whips up his phone to message Rae very vulgar things but when was he ever not vulgar?

Rae gasps scandalously and message back in fury.

"It's about the birthday party, she says he wanted you to host it at your place and she is inviting everyone."

Almost immediately Corpse replied.

"Absolutely not."

Toast shrugs and passes on the message to Rae. He can pretty much hear her scream. He tosses it to the side and goes back to the game.

"If she keeps bothering you I'll message her again, you'll have to focus on the game then."

At least he can focus on something else so he agreed to it.

Thankfully Rae stopped after that, more to think of another plan than of consideration for Corpse. But of course she won't force him if he doesn't want to... but they'll have to do it... eventually.

Rae even planted Sykkuno as bait.

Toast rolls his eyes after they ended stream, Rae, Sykkuno and Corpse were in a call and though Toast wasn't invited, he was in the call with Corpse first and just didn't decide to leave. Corpse didn't think to kick him either until Rae insisted on his friends visiting and no one else will have to know.

At least the very least they should drop off his present.

"Rae, he just met us for like... a week, why would he want us to visit him?"

"Well how was he supposed to make new friends if he doesn't meet them in person?"

Corpse listens to Rae and Toast arguing and is kind of regretting telling Rae what he was doing.

"Guys, shouldn't we listen to what Corpse wants? I mean... it's his birthday after all..."

Of course Sykkuno was the one who is sensible in all this. Corpse was glad to have met him.

"Fine, but I'm gathering all the presents from them and giving it to you in person, you wouldn't mind if Sykkuno helped me would ya?"

Corpse was worried but if was Sykkuno he'd be fine he guessed.

"Rae... I can barely carry anything... maybe Toast can come too?"

"I swear Sykkuno, you act like you are weak but in reality, you're actually very strong-"

"Wha- but-"

"It's fine, it's not like you would be carrying dumbells or something."

On one hand, Toast didn't want to be responsible or force Corpse to accept someone he doesn't know into his house. On the other, Corpse actually wanted Toast's input but since he already implied that he didn't want to go so Corpse stayed silent at that.

Notes:

Note that Rae is a little oblivious because despite knowing each other they don't really talk about serious things that much, only later will she get to know him after he has his persona.
