Blizzards and Drag Race

Summary:

It has been a long couple of weeks and all Lexa wants to do tonight is relax on the couch and catch up on Drag Race. Alone. Her roommate is out of town and she has the house to herself for some much-needed peace and quiet. But with a blizzard warning, her roommate's best friend (and ex-roommate) shows up to pick up some things, promptly getting snowed in inside the house with Lexa. Now, if this was anyone else, Lexa wouldn't bat an eye but it's Clarke. The two of them can't stand each other, they never could, and if it was up to Clarke, she would be taking her chances in the snowstorm. Only it's not up to her because there is a wall of snow outside the front door.

So, the two are finally forced to spend time together, talking more than they had in the past year combined. And then the power goes out, leaving them both looking for ways to stay warm

Work Text:

This is not how Clarke was expecting to spend her weekend. She was not expecting to spend it snowed in in her friend’s house. With said friend’s roommate whom she absolutely could not stand. Octavia was out of town for about a week and Clarke was swinging by to pick up a couple of her things from the house. She used to live here up until three weeks ago; she started a new job and it was quite far from here so she had to find a new place. Although she was completely moved out of here, there were still a couple of things she found to be missing, meaning they were still at this house. But with the weather being as bad as it was, Clarke really should have waited for things to settle down a little before driving down there. Her new place was over an hour away from Octavia’s, so by the time she reached the house, the snow was out of control and the wind made it difficult to so much as open the car door.

It didn’t seem like she would be leaving anytime soon because as soon as she stepped inside the house, she noticed the weather warning on her phone. There was a blizzard coming, and it wouldn’t be safe to drive back in this weather. But she had assumed she would be alone, it was Octavia’s place – her home till a couple of weeks ago – so she wouldn’t mind spending the night here, until things calmed down enough. Only her roommate was here too, she was supposed to leave to visit her family but it seemed like she too couldn’t leave because of the weather. So now, Clarke was stuck in a house that wasn’t hers anymore with Lexa, someone she couldn’t stand.

They didn’t get along from the get-go, not even after having lived together for months. Lexa was cocky and arrogant, overly confident, and it really didn’t help that she was incredibly hot too. It made it harder for Clarke to keep her eyes off of her, that was for sure. And Clarke hated that for herself, she didn’t want to be attracted to her but that cocky and arrogant demeanor paired with her killer ass and pouty lips and toned arms made it very hard to not be attracted to her. But Lexa was also condescending, it drove Clarke crazy, she couldn’t stand it but she would be lying if she said she never thought about shutting her up by kissing her.

Lexa didn’t like Clarke either, found her to be too easy going, someone who didn’t take anything seriously, too messy, too loud. But well, she too found herself staring at Clarke, wanting to shut her up by pressing her lips to hers, or well, maybe just by putting that mouth to better use. Even when they were living together, she did her best to spend as little time as possible with Clarke on her own but well, that didn’t always work out because they were in such close proximity after all. Octavia and Clarke were best friends, and Lexa was good friends with Octavia too, so unfortunately she ended up spending up more time than she’d like with Clarke. But there was some unresolved tension between the two of them, and Lexa was doing her best to make sense of it. She didn’t know what it was about her, just speaking to her drove her crazy, it was like Clarke was incapable of having a conversation with her without very intentionally pushing her buttons.

“You can’t leave.” Lexa said from her seat on the couch in the living room, eyes very uninterestedly following the blonde walking out of the living room – and presumably towards the front door.

“Well, I sure as hell can’t spend the night with you.” Clarke rolled her eyes. She had been here all of two hours and Lexa was already getting on her nerves.

“Roads her snowed over.” Lexa reminded her. “There’s a weather warning. You live over an hour away.” There was no interest in her voice but just stating facts. “I cannot, in good conscience, let you leave this house.”

“I’ll be fine.” Clarke waved it off, “Just a little snow.” Honestly, she’d rather be out in that godawful weather than here with Lexa.

“Okay, well if you die it’s not my fault.” Lexa called out as she heard her footsteps walking towards the door. “Octavia will miss you though.”

But then Clarke opened the front door, coming face to face with a wall of snow. Letting out a sigh, she closed the door as quickly as she had opened it. “I guess I’m not going anywhere.” She called back out to Lexa, albeit reluctantly, taking her shoes and coat off.

“Wait, so you’re spending the night here?” Lexa sat up abruptly, giving her almost a panicked look as Clarke returned to the living room.

“Yeah, we’re snowed in.” Clarke nodded. “Oh god, don’t look so disappointed.” She scoffed. “I’m not some sort of monster, I’m not going to eat you or anything.” But then a grin broke out on Clarke’s face, knowing very well Lexa was going to hate the next words that came out of her mouth. “Unless you want me to, of course.”

Lexa groaned letting her head fall into her hands. “No,” She shook her head, “No, I’m not dealing with this.” She looked up at her. “Why are you staying, what happened to leaving and driving home in a blizzard?”

“We’re snowed in. There’s a wall of snow outside the door, I can’t go anywhere.” Clarke told her again, not saying anything else to Lexa before walking out of the room and up the stairs to Octavia’s bedroom. It was late already, if she was going to stay here she might as well get changed into something more comfortable. Octavia wouldn’t mind, it wouldn’t be the first time anyways and she was dying to get out of this new sweater; it was a gift from her mom and as cute as it was, it was also very rough and itchy. So getting into pajamas and relaxing sounded great right now; maybe with a mug of hot chocolate if she could find some in the kitchen.

Lexa was glad that Clarke had walked away and gone upstairs, sure that she had left her alone for the night to go up to Octavia’s bedroom to also be alone. Despite not being able to go see her family, she was looking forward to a quiet night in. She had been incredibly busy the past couple of weeks and she wanted nothing more than to be cuddled under her favorite blanket with a hot chocolate catching up on the last three episodes of Drag Race. So thankfully Clarke was out of the way now, she would hopefully stay upstairs for the rest of the night; Lexa knew how Clarke felt about her and the feeling was very much mutual so she had a feeling Clarke wouldn’t want to spend the night with her either.

But all her hopes died down about ten minutes later when Clarke came back downstairs, walking into the living room before slumping down onto the couch. A little too close to Lexa actually, enough that it made Lexa sit up straight and give her a weird, questioning look, asking for an explanation. She waited, watching as Clarke made herself comfortable, completely ignoring her, like she wasn’t even there. Instead Clarke pulled up her legs, settling into the couch, and even picked up a blanket from the basket next to the couch.

“Uh, what are you doing?” Lexa gave her a look, eyes moving between the remote and Clarke.

“Getting comfortable…?” Clarke answered, it was pretty self-explanatory really.

“I thought you went upstairs?”

“Yeah, to get changed into something more comfort.” Clarke nodded. “I needed to take off my bra, it’s been a long day.”

“Clarke.” Lexa sighed, feeling defeated. “I had a long week, and all I want is to sit here in peace and catch up on Drag Race. So if you could just go back to Octavia’s room or the empty room that used to be yours or wherever you want, and just leave me alone, that would be great.”

“Well, I haven’t watched the last episode yet either and I was hoping O recorded it so I could watch it now.”

“I’m not watching it with you.” Lexa stated simply, she really just wanted to be alone right now, unwinding after the long work week. Besides, she was supposed to go back to her parents’ tonight, she hadn’t seen them in a long time and she was looking forward to it but given the weather issues, it was just not possible. So right now, the last thing she wanted after everything was to spend the night with Clarke.

“Then go upstairs, I’m not leaving this couch.”

“This is my house.”

“I lived here till three weeks ago.”

Lived.” Lexa pointed out, a sharpness to her tone. “Past tense.”

“Well, unfortunately I’m stuck here tonight.” Clarke reminded her. “Trust me, I would like nothing more than to leave and not spend my Saturday night with you. But here I am.”

Lexa remained silent for a moment, watching Clarke disapprovingly. “I’m three episodes behind on Drag Race and if you give me anything that remotely resembles a spoiler, I will kick you out of the house.”

Clarke raised her arms in surrender, “I wouldn’t dream of it, I’m not that awful.”

“Sure,” Lexa didn’t seem convinced, but she let it go for now, sitting back in her seat and picking up the remote. Pointing it at the TV, Lexa went into recordings, selecting episode 6, the first of the three she hadn’t watched and waited for it to start.

The recap went on as they sat in silence, Lexa finally breathing easy as Clarke kept her end of the deal, not telling her anything about the episode to come or what to even expect. But as the recaps finished and the contestants walked into the Werkroom, Clarke wordlessly got up and walked away out of the living room. Lexa’s eyes followed her questioningly, not asking anything but wondering where she was going – maybe it was for the best that she was leaving. So shrugging it off as not important, Lexa returned her attention to the show, the queens talking about the last challenge, then RuPaul coming in to tell them about what they had to do this week.

Clarke returned a few minutes later, two mugs in her hands, wordlessly handing on to Lexa. “Peace offering.” She said as Lexa took it from her, “I won’t ruin your Saturday night and this weather calls for some hot chocolate.” Clarke narrowed her eyes, tilting her head in surprise as she saw Lexa’s face. “Are you smiling?” She asked, sitting back down. “At me? Are you smiling at me?”

“Yes?” Lexa answered, “When someone does something nice for you, you saw thank you and smile.”

“That’s weird,” Clarke shook her head. “Stop it,” She looked away, eyes shifting from the screen to Lexa. “You’ve never smiled at me, it’s weird.”

Lexa only rolled her eyes, “Whatever, thank you for the hot chocolate.” She sat up straight, wordlessly reaching under the couch and searching for something. She came back up with a bottle of whiskey, quirking an eyebrow at Clarke. “Octavia’s stash,” Lexa explained. “She thinks I don’t know where it is but it just makes it easier for me to get a drink when I’m watching TV.”

“Wow, you can be fun sometimes,” Clarke grinned at her, watching as Lexa sat her mug down on the coffee table and unscrewed the top of the bottle. “I did not know that.”

“I’m not a stuck up robot, Clarke. I know when to relax and let loose.”

“Coulda fooled me,” Clarke shrugged as Lexa poured about a shot’s worth of whiskey into her hot chocolate and then into Clarke’s. “Thank you.” Lexa screwed the cap back on and set the glass bottle back on the coffee table. “Won’t Octavia know you got into her bottle?”

“I’ll replace it before she gets back.” Lexa answered. “This won’t be the first time, trust me.”

It was a little impressive actually, this wasn’t a side of Lexa that Clarke had ever seen before. Maybe if she had, she would be easier to stand, maybe Clarke would get along a little better with her. “Wait,” Clarke spoke suddenly, hand going on Lexa’s upper arm. “A while back, Octavia thought I swiped her bottle of vodka and I didn’t even know what she was talking about. That was you, wasn’t it?”

Lexa opened her mouth to speak but closed it, shrugging and looking away. “I planned on replacing it, but she found the empty bottle before I could.” Lexa explained. “But then she made you replace it so…I didn’t.”

Clarke shook her head with a straight face, “I expected better from you.” She said to Lexa. “I expect that sort of behavior from me, not from you.”

“What can I say Clarke?” Lexa gave her a playful smile, “There’s more to me than you know.”

They spent the next hour in amicable silence, speaking occasionally to comment on what was happening on the screen, Lexa finding herself agreeing with Clarke more than she would care to admit. She didn’t know what it was, whether it was the whiskey, or the power of Drag Race in bringing people together, but Lexa was actually having a…not-so-terrible time in Clarke’s company. Or maybe all they needed to get along was to get snowed in and trapped in the house together. But for what it was worth, this wasn’t awful, it was only about half as bad as Lexa thought it was going to be.

“Wrong,” Lexa shook her head at the TV, episode six just about finishing. They had just announced the winner and it was very clear that Lexa did not agree with the judges’ decision. “That is absolute bullshit.”

“Lady Camden should have won.” Clarke agreed. “Jorgeous put that shit together at the last second. And what even is that?” She asked, “It’s a piece of fabric with some fucking cookie cutters on it.” She rolled her eyes. “Ru’s tripping if she thinks that’s a winning look and Lady Camden’s isn’t.”

“Right!?” Lexa exclaimed. “She cut a paddling pool into strips! And then put it together to make that!”

“Trans colors too.” Clarke smiled before shrugging, “That’s probably why she didn’t win.”

Yeah, neither of them were too happy with the winner of the episode and it really only got worse when the judges named the bottom two. This might have been the first time the two of them agreed on anything at all and it was even more entertaining when they switched on to Untucked after the episode ended. It was explosive to see the least, Lexa on the edge of her seat when the queens started arguing and Clarke pouring another drink into her now empty mug.

“This is what Untucked is all about.” Clarke said over the rim of her mug, looking at the very amused look on Lexa’s face. “I live for this shit.”

“This is incredible.” Lexa nodded, eyes glued to the TV screen. “I did not know Maddy had that in her.”

“Tell me about it.” Clarke took a sip of her drink. “I was not expecting any of this.”

The next episode was a little less eventful and a lot less controversial according to both Clarke and Lexa. They were both happy enough with the winners and pleasantly surprised by how there weren’t any bottom queens. Only, Untucked yet again knocked the air out of them but for very different reasons this time. The last one was pure drama, it was what reality TV was made for and this one was a lot more…heartfelt. It was emotional and meaningful and Lexa would be lying if she didn’t have to very subtly wipe a tear away – it was just very different from the last one, she wasn’t expecting it to make her feel anything other than amusement.

“I cried when I watched this one too.” Clarke admitted, letting Lexa know she had seen her wipe her eyes. “It hit close to home.”

Lexa nodded slowly, turning her head to look at Clarke. She knew Clarke was transgender, but she had never seen her being anything other out and very proud. It was hard to imagine Clarke as being uncertain and scared about anything, she was always so confident and sure in herself in everything she did – including her gender and sexuality. But then again, she didn’t know her that well, not nearly well enough for Clarke to tell her anything about her past, anything so personal. “I can’t imagine what that must be like.”

“Not fun,” Clarke nodded. “But she is right though.” She spoke slowly this time, both of them looking back at the screen. “Saying it is the hardest part. Once you get past that, it starts to get easier.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, because saying it out loud means you know now.” Clarke told her. “And figuring it out and knowing for certain is half the battle. Like sure, maybe you still haven’t accepted yourself for it completely but you have accepted that it is a fact about yourself.” She thought about what she just said, tilting her head and running the sentence over her mind again, “If that makes any sense, I can’t seem to word properly right now.”

“Yeah, it makes sense.” Lexa nodded. “It’s not the same I know, but I guess it can be similar because I had a similar moment when I figured out I was gay. Saying it out loud? That was hard. It made it…real.”

“That’s it,” Clarke exclaimed, that’s what she wanted to say. “It makes it real. Saying it out loud, and hearing it, it makes it so real. Makes it a real fact about yourself.”

They fell silent for a moment, the sound of Untucked still playing in the background as the episode wrapped up as they continued to look at each other. No, they barely ever talked about themselves with one other and there wasn’t really much Clarke knew about Lexa, or Lexa about Clarke. It wasn’t the same, as Lexa had said it, but it was similar and maybe they weren’t as different as they thought they were.

“Is this…” Clarke motioned her finger between the two of them, “Are we having a moment?”

Lexa groaned, rolling her eyes and picking up the TV remote to turn on the latest episode. “If we were, you just ruined it.”

Clarke opened her mouth to speak, make another joke but the sound of the snowstorm outside seemed to pick, a particularly strong gust of wind hitting against the windows. “That sounds a little worrying.” Clarke commented, eyes in the direction of the noise.

“Ye-” But before Lexa could finish her sentence, the lights went out. Well, the lights, the TV, the heating, and every other electronic device in the house. “Well, fuck.”

“Like the night couldn’t get any wors-” Clarke stopped midsentence, almost jumping at the hand on her body. “Lexa what are you doing?” She asked rather calmly, she couldn’t see but she could feel something grabbing her somewhere she wasn’t expecting to be grabbed.

“Looking for my phone,” Lexa was feeling around on the couch for the small device, her hand having found something to grab – it didn’t feel exactly like her phone but it could possibly be if it was buried under the blankets and cushions.

“That’s not your phone.” Clarke told her calmly, Lexa’s hand still on her.

“Wh-”

“That’s my dick.”

“Oh my god!” Lexa yanked her hand away immediately, “I am so sorry.” Yes, she was very embarrassed right now, wanting nothing more than to just disappear. Or maybe turn back the clock a few seconds.

“I’m not even hard Lexa, how did you think that was you phone?” Clarke asked into the darkness, clearly smirking although the other woman couldn’t see her.

Her cheeks had gone red by now, and Lexa was very glad Clarke couldn’t see the look on her face. “I- the blankets…and I thought- sorry.”

Clarke only laughed, retrieving her own phone from the pocket of her pajama bottoms and turning the flashlight on. “Cute,” She said, grinning as she flashed the light on Lexa’s face. “Look at you blushing.”

“Stop,” Lexa brought up her hand, holding it in front of her face to block the light from her eyes. “Help me find my phone, please? We need some light.”

“It’s right here,” Clarke shined the light down to her crotch, laughing when Lexa groaned.

They did eventually find Lexa’s phone, and turns out Clarke was sitting on it so Lexa’s hand wasn’t far off when it went for Clarke. With their phones, they went off looking for some candles and matches, there were no lighters in the house and finding something to light the candles with ended up being much bigger challenge than finding the candles themselves. Lexa had a thing for them, so there were numerous candles around the house, and Clarke found it very funny that she didn’t know where the matches were. How do you light your candles if you don’t have matches? she had asked.

“It’s getting cold,” Lexa said after a while, it had been over half an hour since the power went out and the heat was starting to dissipate. They hadn’t had the heating up too high before it went off and the house could hold onto the heat for only so long with the freezing temperatures outside. And now, even with the blankets, it was getting a little chilly – they didn’t know when the power would come back on, and they really needed to find ways to stay warm.

“It is,” Clarke agreed, wrapping the blanket a little tighter around herself. She remained quiet for a moment, mulling over what she wanted to say. “You wanna cuddle for warmth?”

“It’s not that cold Clarke.” Lexa quirked an eyebrow at her, a little skeptical about that offer. But really, she wouldn’t be opposed to it – maybe she had a little too much to drink already, they were definitely working through that bottle faster than what was…sensible.

“Not yet,” Clarke agreed. “But there’s only so much the whiskey is going to do.”

Lexa thought about it for a moment before giving in, Clarke was right. “Yeah, come here.” She unwrapped her blanket, her arms open as she leaned back into the couch, asking Clarke to come closer. But instead of coming closer, she sat up straight and took her t-shirt off. Lexa’s eyes widened, quickly looking away because Clarke was very much naked from the waist up. “What are you doing?”

“Body heat…?” Clarke said like it was obvious.

“You’re not even wearing a bra.” Lexa commented, still looking away, trying to find anywhere else to look at that wasn’t Clarke’s chest because oh, those girls were impossible to not look at.

“Yeah, I know.” Clarke nodded. “God, you can look, we’re both grownups here.” She rolled her eyes. “Besides, I didn’t pay for these designer tiddies for you to stare at the wall in an attempt to avoid them.” She placed her hands under her boobs, gently bouncing them and grinning at Lexa.

She didn’t know what the appropriate way to look at someone’s boobs was when you weren’t about to sleep with them. Because yes, the only times Lexa had seen someone boobs was when she was about to sleep with them – and well, that was quite normal really, how many times were you faced with your ex-roomate’s boobs? “They are very nice boobs,” Lexa spoke sheepishly, the drinks they’d had was making her a little fuzzy, making her more likely to say stupid things. “Worth every penny.”

“Are you drunk?” Clarke asked, still smiling at her.

“No,” Lexa shook her head, looking at Clarke’s face now rather than her chest. “But I’m not entirely sober either.” She admitted. “A bit more than just buzzed, bordering on tipsy.”

“So, what? You have a drunk scale?”

“Yes,” Lexa agreed, counting it out on her fingers. “It goes sober, buzzed, tipsy, very tipsy, drunk.”

“No very drunk?” Clarke asked and Lexa only shook her head.

“Never been very drunk.”

“I’ll get you there one day, mark my words.”

“Not going to happen, I got through college without getting there.” Lexa shook her head. “Okay, are you going to come closer or what? I’m getting cold.” She was waiting with her blanket unwrapped, waiting for Clarke to cuddle up closer to her so they could keep each other warm until the power came back on.

“Yeah, I’m waiting for you.” But Lexa only looked at her questioningly, she was very much ready with her arms literally open for Clarke – something Lexa never thought she would be saying because really, before tonight she was certain that she hated Clarke. But well, after spending some…quality time together and maybe she wasn’t that bad. “Take off your shirt.” Clarke rolled her eyes. “Body heat, remember?”

“I…I’m not wearing a bra.” Lexa trailed off.

“Yeah…” Clarke nodded. “Does it look like I am?”

Right, I’m an idiot. Lexa nodded, taking her shirt off and tossing it onto the floor. Clarke moved closer to her, coming to lay on her chest. She wanted to smack herself when she hummed in content at the contact. Maybe Lexa didn’t hear it, but it had been a while since she had been this close to someone, physically speaking of course. And well…Lexa was hot to put it lightly. Yes Clarke couldn’t stand her until earlier tonight, but it was not secret – to herself – that she still found her ridiculously attractive. And oh, she was a lot fitter under those clothes than Clarke had expected, arms toned and strong as they came up around her, defined abs, and Clarke would be lying if she said this wasn’t bringing up some sort of feelings.

Lexa found herself closing her eyes, there was something oddly comforting about being this close to someone – even if that someone was Clarke. Besides, having a woman’s boobs pressed up against her was making it very very very difficult to just keep herself breathing properly. It wasn’t her fault, how could anyone be expected to function properly when they had a half naked Clarke Griffin laying on top of them.

“Hey?” Lexa spoke after a moment, once they had settled into the couch together and the awkward stiffness had dissipated. Clarke looked up at her, waiting for her to continue. “Do you want to get a little warmer?”

“Sure you’re not drunk?” Clarke felt like she had to ask, suppressing the smile at what Lexa was suggesting.

“Very sure.” Lexa nodded. “I’d be open to getting a little drunker uh…afterwards though.”

Clarke nodded, bringing herself up slightly. “Take of your pants.”
