Chapter Text
Ding! The final goodbye message was sent out to the group chat and Bruno let out a sigh of relief. The kids were off to a party at Trish’s house, which meant a rare night alone with Abbacchio with maybe a few messages from the chat over what was going on. He surveyed the flat, making sure he put everything out for a nice night in.
A stack of his and Abbacchio’s favorite movies? Check.
A throw blanket snagged from Abbacchio’s room covered in cat hair draped over the couch? Check.
A wine bottle and two glasses? Check.
Popcorn kettle, kernels, butter, and bowl at the ready? Check.
All that was left was to order the takeout and wait for Abbacchio to come back from work.
Work. Bruno sighed as he checked his phone and email to see if he got any replies from that guy yet on that job. Nothing. He closed his phone and put his head in his hand. Finding work had been a bitch and a half since he stopped working for Diavolo. Sure, him and Abbacchio were scraping by, but that wasn’t what he wanted for him and his partner. His mind briefly wondered if somehow his former boss would take him back, but the thought was quickly cast out. Being out of that place was better for him and his mind.
The sudden brush of soft fur against his legs and a soft mrrroew brought Bruno out of his mind and drew his attention to the Russian Blue circling his feet. Bruno smiled, somehow Moody Blues always knew when to show up. He knelt down and pet the cat, feeling her purrs vibrating through his fingers and slowly relaxing him. A soft whine also caught his attention as Bruno looked up to see Sticky Fingers padding around and sniffing. He was probably wondering where everyone was. Bruno shook his head as he sat on the floor, allowing Moody Blues to climb into his lap.
“It’s just me and Leone tonight, Zippy.” He called, causing the Border Collie to perk up.
“The kids went to a party. We’re alone tonight.” The ravenette continued, silently wondering what he was doing talking to his dog like this.
The canine seemed to understand as he whined, head drooping, and padding over to his owner to flop next to him, nosing his hip. Bruno scoffed to himself, what a drama queen, before offering his other free hand for pets. He doesn’t know how much time passed, just sitting there, petting the two animals in the still quiet. It’s broken by the click of a lock, the jingle of keys, and the creak of the door. The deep baritone call, ‘I’m home’, signaled to all three of them the news they’ve been waiting for: Leone was home.
