Work Text:

Wind was cursed.

The ocean king called it a blessing. Others would say it's a burden. Wind would say damned.

Wind was normal growing up. He once was normal. He was a kid. He had a childhood. He could remember running up and down the beach chasing his sister with the wind in his hair and a smile on his cheeks. He remembers he was happy. Watching the waves crash on a sunny afternoon. Slurping his grandma’s soup on a rainy day. It was there, he remembers it.

So why does it feel so forgein? Why does it feel forgotten in the corners of his mind where he can't reach it anymore?

Wind was once normal, but he couldn’t stay in that role. He grew up, and as he did he learned he had to change. He had to leave his childhood behind and become the hero. Like the legends he had heard growing up. He had to fill in the clothes too big for him and callus his too soft hands to grasp a sword handle.

It was a burden. Heavy like stone on his shoulder blades that would cut into his palms-but it was his . He had earned it tooth and nail. With blood in his mouth and staining his white teeth and bruised hands and feet, he clawed to get what he wanted. He called the gods down and forced their hand. He wasn’t chosen, but he made himself worthy.

For a while, after the battle had passed, Wind was happy. He was satisfied. At peace. A restless soul wanted more, childish and adventurous, but it was him.

Then, the Ocean king came.

At first it was another quest. Another adventure he was so stupid into wanting to follow and purse…

…He was so idoitic, even now .

The Ocean king blessed him. Gave him sight. The world he was in wasn’t the real one, and the Ocean king gave him something he thought was a blessing. A gift.

…It wasn’t.

-

Wind hummed, arms folded back behind his head. His eyes glanced over the group. Hyrule and Legend were talking as Four was setting up their side for the camp. Wild was already getting food set up and laid out for dinner. Twilight and Time were back at it again with whatever they talked about. Sky was saying something to Warrior’s nearby. It was peaceful.

Of course there were more being present then those eight. But they weren’t seen by the normal eye. Their ghastly forms are veiled by people and hylians alike. Only the unlucky and cursed could sense their presences and see. Wind unfortunately was one.

Of course it wasn’t all the time he could see the undead. Ghost of those who had passed. Most days he is without even seeing more than a shimmer of a spirit nearby. But like everyday on a sea, stormy clouds would come. Threatening rain and fear.

Wind curled his nails into his arms, the biting pain making him aware. Today was not a good day.

“What are you thinking of?” A sudden voice asked out of nowhere.

Wind snapped out of his thoughts as he jumped, snapping his gaze next to him to meet Warrior's eyes. The Captain grinned, white teeth straight and dazzling with his chiseled face. But the image was distorted by the league of men next to him. Looking as real as the man they stood by.

Faces pale and eyes gaunt. Looking weary as they day they had died. Soldiers followed their Captain to the end. Watching and cheering him on. Their voices rose in a loud yell as their red stain steel armor glistened in the light.

“Sailor?”

Wind gaze was thrown from the sight behind Warrior. He glanced away as Warrior looked behind him to look for something. Wind curled his toes, trying to ground himself in the moment. Feeling waves crash into him as the roar muffled his hearing.

“Sorry-little dazed.” Wind said, covering up his staring. He had to get better, the ghost could feel him like he could sense them, but the people still living had yet to know. Wind would keep it that way.

Warrior frowned, piercing blue eyes glowing in concern. A bit of spitefulness flared at the sight. Wanting nothing more than to be left alone today. Not to be downgraded or pushed to the side again.

“Are you feeling alright? You haven’t said much today, you look a little out of it.” Warrior continued.

Wind waved it off, one hand playing with his butterfly pendant. “Nah, just a little worn from traveling. These mountains are tough! I don’t know if I’ve gotten used to the elevation yet!”

Sky, sitting a few feet away, perked up. “Oh! Do you think you're having some elevation sickness? Do you need to lay down?”

“I-what?” Wind stuttered a moment.

Sky came up next to Warrior. “If you are feeling ill you could say, the town we passed had some herbs that could help.”

“No, I’m fine, really.” Wind insisted. “I’m just a bit homesick-that’s all.”

“Oh,” Sky and Warriors said at the same time.

Giving a pat on his shoulder, Warriors gave a genuine grin, “Keep it in mind, once this is all done that’s the dream to go back to.”

Sky nodded enthusiastically, “If you need to talk about anything you can come to me. I understand longing to go homewards-it may be a big world, but our home is always welcoming.”

Wind smiled, “Thank you, but really it is much. I’m just a bit distracted today.”

Warrior rolled his eyes, “Then get your head out of the clouds, sailor.”

Wind laughed, “Yessir.”

The soldiers barked up a laugh.

Wind winced but he tried to hide it. Warrior seemed to get the idea he wanted to be left and asked sky if they should fetch some firewood. They both left as the soldiers all gathered together to follow.

Wind tried to breathe in. The scent of the pine trees was heavy but couldn’t ever bring the comfort that salt did on a breeze. The trees whispered overhead mocking the waves as Wind started to set up for the night. The sun was low and the group seemed to come near Wild’s cooking station.

Wind sighed, running a hand through his light locks. He shouldn’t be so nervous. Sure this was the worst time since being in the group, but it could be worse. He couldn’t understand why it was messing him up so much. Why was he so jittery?

He glanced over to the others, looking at them talking. Soon his eyes fell onto an onlooker. Piercing eyes met him for a moment. Green as emeralds and swirled with knowledge. Wind glanced away, Hands fidgeting with his bedrole as he laid it out.

A pattering of feet came up next to him. He didn’t have to look to know the presence. He swallowed and looked in the corner of his eye to be surprised.

“Are you okay, young one?” A delicate voice asked.

Wind smiled gently as he looked up to Mipha. Her silver jews shine in the light to make her look like a goddess. She was always tender with her words and touch, Wind thought she might be one.

Whispering so as not to be heard, he answered, “I am, Mipha. Sorry-it’s just a lot today.”

Mipha tilted her head, lips pulling together as she looked thoughtful.

Wind layed out the rest of his bedding as he whispered softly, “Not that I don’t mind seeing anyone-it’s just more noise. More caution and memories-It’s a lot .”

“Overwhelming?”

Wind hummed.

Mipha sat down, getting on eye level with Wind. She smiled, “I know it’s difficult being the only one… but it brings hope to some of us.”

Wind snorted, the irony of the situation felt too thick. He was the last thing from hope, all he saw were those who were unsavable. He looked at Mipha unbelieving, “Hope? How can I do that?”

“You can look after our champion,” Mipha states with a smile.

Wind swallowed, stomach flipping around like a boat in a storm. Images of a battlefield and a blow coming towards his face-But Wild was there. Taking it for him. Protecting him like he couldn’t have done it himself. Biting his lip, he hesitates, “If anything it’s more like Wild is looking out for me.

Mipha huffed, but no ill intentions were in her words. “You know how reckless Link gets. You comfort him in more ways than one, you know. Looking after him is more than protecting someone.”

Wind hummed but didn’t feel convicted. Still feeling like he was just being told again how one day he would be big enough. Strong enough. That he was still a kid-

“Urbosa is concerned.” Mipha stated.

Wind hummed, feeling her green eyes digging into his form. Like eye searching for an island on the ocean, never failing to spot a detail.

A cold palm touched Wind's hand. His arm hairs raised, but he didn’t flinch as Mipha rubbed her thumb over his knuckles.

“Will you ever tell them?” She asked gently. She was always willing to listen, even if it wasn't about her Link.

Wind gave a small shrug, voice low, “How easy is it to say you can see everyone's loved ones who are dead?”

Mipha was quiet before she muttered, “I’m sorry, that was too far. I-”

“No,” Wind cut her off shortly, “Sorry, I just… long day. I’ll be better tomorrow.”

Mipha nodded, getting to her feet, she stated, “I’ll speak to the soldiers to be a little quieter. They're getting on Revali’s nerves again.”

Wind mustered a grin, “Okay-And Mipha?”

She paused, honey like eyes still watching him. “Hmm?”

“I-”

Wind was cut off by Legend’s yell, “Sailor! Stop staring at the dirt and come get food! I’m getting your portion if you're not coming!”

Wind stuck out his tongue at Legend. Standing up and walking over. Mipha was behind him. He was thankful that most ghosts moved out of the way when he came, knowing too well that today he couldn’t phase through them.

Sitting by Warrior and Four, Wild passed him a soup mix. Near Wild was a young boy around ten as his sister tried to beckon him away from the fire. They had burn marks that trailed up their face and gaping wounds from an exposition. Wind felt Urbosa’s emerald gaze on him once again. He looked down at his bowl. He tried not to look at Wild’s siblings much.

Dinner wasn’t much. Their group was always loud as they fought and teased. Wind didn;t have much of an appetite but ate as much as he could stomach. He gave the rest to Legend who took it without much question.

Before heading to bed, Time caught him. Brows low as he rests a hand on Wind’s shoulder.

“You seem out of it today, sailor. Is everything alright?” Time asked.

Wind nodded, “Yeah, sorry-just as a bit dazed is all.”

Time frowned, “If you're worried about something you can tell me. Don’t worry about feeling childish, you have already proven yourself.”

Wind nodded, fingernails curling back into his hand as he smiled. Feeling like the tsunamis were racking his mind and breaking under the pressure of the hurricane winds. Pretending nothing was amidst.

“I know, really I’m just a bit homesick.”

Time nodded, “If that is all it is. Your quietness can be useful, but remember when you need help you have to yell.”

With that, Time patted his shoulder and bid him a goodnight. Turning away, Wind crawled to his bedsheet and tried to fall asleep.

-

Wind cracked his eyes open. Beads of light filled his vision and he tried to blink them away. Sitting up and stretching his arms, Wind looked around. Most of everyone was already up(He must have slept in again). Only Sky and Legend were still asleep.

Marin’s hair blew in the breeze in a red flame as she sat by Legend and his uncle. She always was the first to notice if Wind was awake.

Marin waved to Wind, “Good morning!”

Wind nodded, and some of the others in the group muttered some greetings before getting ready for the day themselves. A typical start.

Another one of those days, Wind thought bittersweetly.

Rolling up his bed and getting his shield on, Wind didn’t hear who came over to him. Strapping his sheath to his belt wind jolted when he felt a presence next to him.

“Jeez!” He barely kept his voice low from the surprise and had to put a hand on his beating heart. Pointing a finger, he whispered, “Don’t do that to me, Urbosa!”

The taller Gerto raised an eyebrow, emerald green eyes staring at Wind. With her rumbling voice, she answered, “A warrior should always be on guard.”

Growing, Wind muttered, “Don’t give me that talk again, please. It’s already going to be a long day.”

Urbosa scoffed, “Little champion has some sass today.”

Wind rolled his eyes, but smiled along as he packed his bags. Trying to look as passive as could be to the others. Usually the other spirits let him be, knowing it was hard enough to talk without being caught. The four captions however were the most talkative out of the spirits, willing to speak to Wind.

(Part of Wind wondered if they knew they didn’t look like corpses. Knew that Wind was the youngest and they thought they could help guide him to being a better hero. He didn’t know, he didn’t think they would tell him.)

“Hm, did Mipha speak to the soldiers?” Wind asked, he didn’t know if he could go again with so many voices. It got to disorationing.

Urbosa nodded, gold glittering in the morning sun as she stood proud. “She did, a few left in the night so it won’t be as crowded. They promised to be considerate today.”

Wind didn’t feel like they would, but it was hard to tell with them. Some days they were a loud barking pack of youthful men, others they were sorrow filled and quiet. Rarely they didn’t shout and swear, or sing songs from their days of war. But they were hearty men. Wind could see why the Captain had loved them so.

“Good,” Wind responded, hoping that for the morning at least he would be able to walk in peace.

The trees ruffled their leaves as the birds chirped. The winds felt like they were changing. Wind felt it tug on his hair and arms. Almost as if to beckon him away. Whispering words of fear and heeding. Like they do when a storm is approaching. Quickly they ran as the waves of the sea started to turn still before the monster awoke.

Wind stilled, standing tall a moment. “Something is coming,” He whispered.

Urbosa asked, “What do you feel, Wind sage?”

Wind frowned, hand tugging on his pendant around his neck. “I don’t know, but something is on it’s way.”

Urbosa hummed, eyes narrowed, “Revali felt something too…”

Wind frowned, “Think it could be connected?”

“I don’t know, but I trust you'll be wary?”

Wind was about to nod when a hand came down on his head and his hair was ruffled.

“How’s the sailor today?” Wild’s voice asked as Wind pulled himself from his grasp.

“Ey!” Wing glared at Wild as he laughed, Twilight coming behind him.

“Are you in a better mood than yesterday?” Twilight asked.

“I wasn’t in a mood-”

“You were sulking all day!” Wild excluded, but he grinned dangerously as he pulled Wind under his arm. “Don’t worry, I have a fun idea today that I’m sure you’ll love.”

Hyrule perked up from the edge of camp and shouted over, “If you started a forest fire I swear I’ll-”

“Shuss-” Wild waved him off as Time fondly smiled at the interaction.

Moving his arm off his shoulder, Wind stated proudly, “I’m not in a mood , and I’m not sulking. I’m fine.”

Twilight and Wild looked at each other.

“I’m not!” Wind yelled, a bit taken back by how everyone thought he was like a child throwing a tantrum.

“My offer still stands-” Wild says as Twilight elbowed him inside.

Wind could hear from behind him, Urbosa talking to Marin.

“Is he alright?” The girl asked, voice soft and gentle. Wind could see why Legend had liked her.

Urbosa sighed, “Well see.”

Wind tried not to be bothered by it. Packing up his stuff and having Warriors soldiers(less than the day before, only eleven seemed to have stayed) and all the others gathered and geared up.

Wind tried to plaster a smile on his face and act normal. If some of the group noticed something was off, nobody said anything against it. With a hurricane of thoughts pounding into Wind's mind, and uncertain dragging him down to the bottom of the seas.

Wind tried his best to keep his head up high.

-

“Last time I trusted you, sailor.” Legend grumbled as he wrung his blue hat out. River water clung to it as Legend huffed.

“I thought you said you got hot!” Wild shouted, looking like no guilt could cling to him.

Legend rolled his eyes as he went to snap back, throwing his wet hat at Wind who yelped as it impacted his face.

“Ack!”

Wind threw it back at Legend as he whipped his eye.

“Boys!” Time said sternly. Causing them to stop their ruckus and continue forwards.

Wild helped up his hands in a peaceful surrender as Legend muttered curses under his breath. Wind grinned as he followed Wild. Warrior gave a wink to Wind and Twilight seemed to grin as the shouts.

Wild pated Winds back, the sailor couldn’t help but gleem at the feeling.

“Good job, told you I had something planned.” Wild say with a sharp grin. The tips of his long hair weted from the river water.

Wind gleed, sluting. “Of course!”

Wild laughed, looking pleased and relaxed. It was a nice change from a few months ago. Wind’s gaze slipped down to the side as something in him turned. Like bubbles start to brew and become hotter as a dreadful thought comes up from below.

Your just his replacement. Little brother-nothing more.

Wind flinched at the thought but put it at bay. Trying not to think of it again. Wild frowned a moment as if senses something was off but Wind just skipped ahead. Trying not to see forms of Wild’s past siblings trailing behind. Not wanting to feel more of what he thought couldn’t be real.

Suddenly the group came to a halt. From up ahead the group there was a high voice accompanied by the low tone of Time.

“Is that the mail man again?” Legend whined.

“You only said that because no one ever writes to you,” Four stated with a smug look.

“Ouch,” Hyrule hissed.

Legend rolled his eyes as everyone came together to see what it was.

Sky came up, being one of the only ones who could diquinst some of the different scripts of lettering. It wasn’t Wind’s fault his era was the most complex!

Sky perked up and surveyed the group until his eyes landed on Wind. “It’s for you!”

“Oh!” Coming up now, Wind took the piece of paper from Sky’s hands. Looking at the handwriting he could make it out to be from Aryll. At the thought of his sister he smiled. Knowing her and her dedication.

He folded it up and slipped it inside his bag.

Warrior frowned, “You aren’t going to read it?”

Wind shrugged, “Nah, I’ll save it for tonight. Might give me good dreams.”

Warriors smiled, “Alright then, time to get back to walking.”

The group laughed and groaned at the sametime. The soldiers joked, the champions talked to each other, Time’s small group of close friends were always silent as they blended into the shadows, and the rest whispered from behind. Wind tried not to listen in, but rough storm days were always cloudy.

-

After having some supper as the others crowed over to the campfire to talk and rest their weary limbs. The spirits roamed around them, but at night they calmed down with their noise. Wind hummed a sea shanty as he pulled out his crinkled letter.

He sat leaning against Warrior as he let him pull his blue scarf over his thin shirt from the mountain cool air. With the fire light he began to read.

Link,

Grandma isn’t doing well. She got sick and the rest of the villagers tried to help her. After two weeks she die-’

The rest of the letter fell from Wind’s fingers. Falling to the ground as panic seized in his chest. Freezing over and then waving broke out. He couldn’t breath e

“Sailor?- Sailor?”

There were voices calling his name but he couldn’t hear them.

He couldn’t hear anything but his own heart beat.

It wasn’t-she wasn’t meant to leave him. She promised that she wouldn’t leave him like his parents had. She and Aryll was all he had. And now she was gone-

His hands were trembling. He couldn’t stop them.

Something was shaking him. Grasping him by the shoulders, like a man trying to wrestle the winds of a storm. Fruitless.

His eyes couldn’t see anything through the blur of tears.

His breathing got faster.

Where was she? If he could see a ghost then where was she?! Was she wondering without knowing why-Was she gone and left without a goodbye-

“You need to calm down! Listen-”

Wind shook his head, arms trying to wrap around himself. “She’s gone-she’s gone-”

“Who’s gone?”

Wind tried to curl into himself. He couldn’t think straight, he knew he was panicking but he couldn’t help it. His lungs started to ache. His hands clawed at something. He couldn’t he wouldn’t -he -

Cold.

There was something very cold in his hands.

His arm hairs raised up as something pressed on his shoulders.

He blinked away tears, looking down at his lap.

Hyrule was pressing something into his hands, eyes wide. Behind were the others, expressions wide and concerned. To the side of Hyrule was Mipha, lips firm as her eyes kept crossing over his face.

“What?” Wind asked, too small. Too childish. Too afraid.

Like a roar of a wave coming down, various voices rose to answer, but it was too much. Wind closed his eyes before everyone realized their mistake at rushing at their words.

“Can you breathe now?” Was the first question by Time.

Wind nodded, “Yeah-I, I think so.”

Time nodded, trying to pull some of the others away. Hyrule kept his fist on Wind’s hand until he slowly uncurled it and pulled back. Wind didn’t even have time to question what it was.

Mipha stayed where she was and Hyrule sat next to Wind. Breathing better now, Wind buried his nails into his knees as he realized what was going on.

“Can you tell us what set you off?” Sky asked so softly it barely was heard over the crackling fire.

“What?” Wind asked, feeling so much like an idiot. Mind muddle and disoriented.

“What set you off,” Sky said again, “What caused you to panic?”

“Oh,” Wind nodded, but he was fighting his words. Tears came to his eyes the more he thought about it. “It’s in-in the l-letter-”

He didn’t want to say it. He knew what would happen if he said it. He didn’t want to look so weak but he couldn’t help himself. Mipha whispered comforts in his ears and Marin came near too. Rubbing his back with a cool touch. It hurt.

“What was in the letter, Sailor?” Twilight pressed. “We can’t read your hylian.”

Wind knew that. He knew it-but he couldn’t. He couldn’t-

“It’s okay,” Mipha whispered, sounding too much like a mother. She leaned her head on Wind’s shoulder. “Let them help.”

She didn’t even know-but regardless she came to help him.

Wind couldn’t help it. He broke.

Tears came to his eyes as he gasped. Waves crashing into him with a force he couldn’t act against. A whine came to his voice as he could only utter, “My Gr-grandma died .”

Then like a click, the others moved. Knowing the story too well. Wind had never kept it a secret, but it still hurt. Warrior’s came as he embraced Wind. Wind’s fingers clung to his form as he pushed his head into Warrior’s chest.

He trembled as cold hands rubbed his back and voices murmured their condolences. Wind squished his eyes shut, but his heart beat like a butterfly as his mind went around and around. Like a whirlpool.

“I can’t see her yet-” Wind whispered into Warriors chest.

“What was that?” He asked, pulling away.

Wind tried to cling to Warriors more, but the elder lifted his head to meet his eyes.

“I can’t see her yet, Captain.” Wind said, voice small and wet. “I don’t what to do if I see her-I c an’t-”

“Hey, hey” Warriors couded, thumb coming to Wind’s cheek as he rubbed under his eyes and wiped the tears. “It’s okay, take your time.”

Wind breathed a moment before looking up at Warrior, “I’m scared .”

Warrior smiled, brushing some of Wind’s hair back from his red face. “It’s okay, we’ll help you through it.”

Wind shook his head, muttering, “No, no, no-you don’t understand .”

Warrior frowned, “Don’t understand what?”

Wind was breathing harshly again, feeling as if an anchor was tied to his ankle and pulling him under. He wasn’t thinking. “I’m cursed . I’m cursed-I’m cursed-”

“Cursed? What do you mean-?”

Wind shook his head, trying to hide his face back into Warriors chest but cold hands grasped him. A soft voice echoed that only the sailor could hear.

“Let them hear, it’s okay.”

Wind looked at Warrior and at the others gathered around. He gasped as he tried to fight the waves rolling over him. “I-I can see ghosts.”

There was a tense pause. Silence that ate away like a rot of the scene.

Wind could feel Mipha smiling behind him as she spoke. “Good, that’s really good, young one.”

“Oh, kid.” Suddenly there were another pair of arms overlapping Warriors and more. Comforting tones and murmurs. It was too much. But everything Wind needed.

Like the sun coming out after the dark clouded days, the sea started to still. Wind sank into the comfort, the gentle hands willing to pull him up from the harsh water. Letting him breath in their embrace and live .

Sand crumbled and soothing waves continued their lapping. Gentle, as if the storm was only a dream. Wind knew it wasn’t, he wasn’t lucky like that, but he took it. Existing with the rising sun, letting the pink rays of hope bring forth in him.

After a long moment, Wind was released. He sighs, whipping his eyes as they felt like raw fish. In a small circle the group all crowded around him. Smile and tender whispers. Warriors kept a hand on his back and Sky leaned on his side.

“How long have you been able to…?” Sky asked, brows knitted.

Wind swallowed, looking in his lap as he fidgeted with his hands. “It was my second journey… The ocean king ‘blessed’ me with the sight.”

The company was silent for a moment, then Wild spoke up. “How-can you tell us how it works? What do you see?”

Wind nodded, tired and no longer did a fear beat in his heart at them knowing. He was just tired . “Yeah, some days I can’t really see them well. Just know if they are around. Other days, I can see them and their forms and hear them.”

“They can talk to you?” Twilight asked.

Wind nodded, “Yeah, some do. Some keep to themselves more.”

“Who… who can you see?” Wild asked with a piercing look.

Wind curled into himself.

“You don’t have to say if you don’t want to, sailor,” Sky assured, Four nodded.

Wind bit his lip as he surveyed the group, quietly asking, “Are you sure you want the answers?”

The pause of the group was enough for Wind ti want to crawl back into his bed, but Time nodded. Speaking for everyone he stated, “Tell us.”

Wind sighed, building up his strength as he looked at Warrior first. “I see your soldiers, Captain. They like to follow you and still cheer you one.” Warrior sucked in a break as he broke eye contact.

Next Wind looked at Twilight, “Your friend comes sometimes at night to tell you you're doing good.”

Wind looked at Wild as he could look him in the eyes. “Your Champions are a loud bunch, but they like to keep us going. Your siblings walk next to you to make sure you're still taking care of yourself.”

Looking towards Legend, Wind stated, “Your Uncle is proud of you and still visits. Marin doesn’t want you to wake up alone and greets you every morning as well as everyone.”

Looking towards Four, Sky, and Hyrule, Wind said, “You have some visitors but I can’t catch their names. They're pretty silent.”

Glancing to Time, Wind muttered, “Your four friends stay in the shadows, but they still watch you. They smile when they continue forward each day…”

Wind breathed out in relief, hand coming up to push the hair out of his eyes. “I don’t know when I’ll see-I don’t know if I can-”

“It’s okay, we’ll take as much time as you need.” Time whispered.

Wind nodded, smiling. “Thank you.”

“You’ve carried a heavy burden…” Sky murmured, “But it’s time to let us help.”

“You don’t think I’m c-c- cursed ?” Wind asked, confused.

Legend frowned, “Why would we think that?”

“Because I-I-”

“Because you can comfort people about their loved ones?” Twilight asked.

“But-But no can see them but me-”

“And that’s a heavy role, but it’s time to take your time to mourn.” Warrior whispered.

Wind nodded, sucking in a deep breath. Clinging to the hand that he helded.

Suddenly there was a new presence behind him. Like salt in the breeze, the comfort came to him. Like a ripple in a calm pool.

Wind glanced back, seeing the form of his Grandmother. Wrinkles crinkled on her eyes as she smiled. His breath was stolen from him as he looked at her.

“She's here,” He whispered.

“Are you ready for that?” Warrior asked.

Wind nodded with a bitter smile, “I am, now.”

“Take as long as you need.” Sky muttered.

Wind nodded as he untangled himself from the group. Turing to face his Grandma.

Link ,” She spoke.

“Hi Grams, I have a lot to tell you.” Wind said with a wobble to his voice.

Wind’s Grandma smiled more, laughing, “I’d love to hear.”

And for once, Wind thinked perhaps he was blessed to have one more day with his Grandma. And after letting the others have peace from their own loved ones.

…perhaps Wind was Blessed.
