Written for Dramione LDWS - Round 4, with the theme Fake Dating and a word limit of 400.

Work Text:

“Do you think they know?” Ginny bit her lip as she watched the ‘couple’ in question.

“That their ingenious plan to fake a relationship was put into place by us?” Pansy glanced sidelong at the youngest and most reasonable of the Weasley clan, “not a chance. They might be cleverer than either of us but not so clever as to see what’s staring them right in the face.”

“How long do you think it will take?” Ginny asked, now playing with the golden snitch pendant of her necklace. When Pansy didn’t answer, she clarified, “For them to figure out that they’re actually perfect together and to stop pretending?”

“Those brilliant idiots?” Pansy pointed with her champagne glass to the table where Draco and Hermione sat, their heads close together and a low but intense argument occurring between them. “They already look like an old married couple,” Pansy’s smirk intensified. “Just you watch, all that anger and indifference will turn against them, and they will be cutting the sexual tension in the proverbial air before the night is out.”

Ginny released the little pendant from her fingers and picked up her glass of Ogden’s. With a chuckle, she took a sip. “You’re right. Sparks are flying. Hermione’s hair is practically crackling with them. They won’t last another month before calling it quits or announcing an engagement!” Ginny clinked her glass with Pansy’s and continued to watch the show unfold before her. “This was our best plan yet, Parkinson.”

Hermione let her hair slip forward, hiding her smirk from view. “Are they still watching?” she whispered harshly, allowing the fake venom in her tone to ripple through her body. Just a little payback for their meddling.

Draco pulled his chair closer to her and dropped his hands to the table a little more forcefully than one usually would during polite conversation. Narrowing his eyes, he was able to pretend that he wasn’t completely enthralled with the witch before him. “Yes,” he sneered, “they’re watching, and they’re congratulating themselves on a job well done. Although, the She-Weasel looks less sure.”

Hermione bristled with his words, “When we announce our engagement, I will be insisting that you stop calling Ginny by that horrible name,” she hissed.

Draco didn’t need to fake his smirk this time, “Sure, Granger. As long as I’m the one to tell them that they’re the ones who got played.”
