Dream Only for Two

Summary:

Omori knew where Basil was the whole time. And also, he hates him.

Work Text:

As Sunny drifted off to sleep, Omori waited patiently for his chance to take over. As soon as Sunny lost consciousness, Omori would be free to take the reigns and have his adventures, while Sunny watched from afar. Even though he wasn’t an active part of it, Sunny enjoyed the adventures. It was the only time in the day he ever felt a tinge of happiness.

Although, Sunny had been growing worried of their adventures lately. Omori can feel his concern grow ever since Basil’s disappearance. And as Omori took over and went to his friends, he made sure to hide away his true feelings so that Sunny wouldn’t detect them.

Hero, Kel and Aubrey all decided to go to Outerworld. Together with their knife wielding friend, they spent a long time looking, but in the end came up with nothing. Sunny was super upset.

Then….the weird figure showed up. It looked like if Basil had been dipped in black sludge. Omori was instantly wary of this stranger. He hadn’t been the one to create this strange figure, and as far as Omori was aware, he had created nearly everything that existed in this world. Yet when he saw the figure, Sunny saw him too. And the stranger’s resemblance to Basil made Sunny beg Omori to follow him.

Omori didn’t want to. He had a bad feeling about him. But at Sunny’s insistence, Omori knew he had no choice but to comply. They followed him to a strange farm, and things got more bizarre from there. Their accompanying friends had disappeared without warning, and the things they saw there were scary. And Sunny was a coward. Omori loved him more than anything, but Sunny was a coward. That was just a fact. As soon as they saw the rope hanging in front of the triggering photo, Sunny sunk away to the point where he was unconscious even to his dream world. Omori was all alone now that Sunny was no longer watching by his side. Omori was all alone.

He hated being alone.

When Omori woke up in Whitespace, he scowled, angry that his nice adventure had been ruined. And it was all the stranger’s fault. Omori paused for a moment, searching for any sign that Sunny was watching. He wasn’t.

Happy with this, Omori let a black door appeared before him. Mewo watched in interest, completely unaware of where he was going next. Omori petted her once, grabbed his knife and went through the door. The room he entered was like a distorted nightmare. It looked like if the Neighbor’s House had been in the process of sinking through a blackhole, but then stopped halfway through. The floor and ceiling twisted together in odd distortions, as well as the furniture and toys inside it. And yet Omori managed to walk through it with ease. He walked until he found a hidden room passed the stretched-out toaster, and then he was greeted with nothing but darkness. Light shown in the middle of the room, illuminating a boy sobbing in a chair. Red disembodied hands wrapped around his torso like rope.

Basil cried harder when he saw Omori, his sea green eyes going wide in terror. Those same eyes used to look at Omori with nothing but trust. Those fear-stricken orbs glanced at the knife in Omori’s hand. Basil, to his credit, managed to force a smile.

“H-hey, O-omori,” the laughter was a poor attempt at disguising how scared he was, “Are you….um….are you still….?

Are you still insane? Was what he wanted to ask. Because in Basil’s limited perspective, Omori had gone crazy and kidnapped him. Basil didn’t know who Sunny was. Didn’t know that Omori was simply an extension of Sunny. And most certainly didn’t know that this was all a dream world, where Omori controlled everything.

Omori ignored the question. He walked forward, getting angrier the more he stared at Basil.

Truth be told, he never liked Basil.

“I was planning on letting you go as soon as you forgot about the photo. But I don’t like how much you make Sunny worried.”

He could see confusion cross Basil’s fearful eyes, “Sunny? Who is----?”

“Why you?” the snarl in Omori’s voice cut Basil off, “Why does he worry about you? I’m the one who protected him all the time. I’m the one who keeps him happy. And plus, he has all his other friends left. Why can’t he just forget you?”

Omori presses the knife very close to Basil’s throat, just barely hard enough to break the skin. Basil had to be as still as possible, or he would start bleeding. Tears rolled down his eyes as he looked at Omori in betrayal.

Omori smirked, “I can make them all forget that you ever existed. I can wipe you from existence. Maybe eventually, Sunny will forget you too.”

He removes the knife, enjoying the sight of his rival trembling before him. He didn’t care that Basil didn’t know who Sunny was. All that mattered was that Sunny knew who he was. And that Sunny still had affection for Basil. That Sunny loved Basil enough to give him his own house and garden in Headspace. That Basil had a nice floral crown. That Sunny even refused to make Headspace Basil fight, because he knew Basil didn’t like violence.

Omori wished he had been treated with half as much consideration by Sunny.

“W-where are you going? Omori! Don’t leave me alone again!” Basil sobbed as Omori walked away. It pissed Omori off. Basil should be happy that he hadn’t killed and revived him like he did last night. Omori glared back at him.

“I’ll keep you here for as long as it takes. They’ll all forget you. And we’ll have adventures without you,” Omori paused, “Maybe even one day, it will just be me and Sunny. But I have to get rid of everyone to do that. You just happened to be first on the list.”

He ignored Basil’s crying. Basil shouted after him right as he closed the door. Omori ignored his screaming for help. What a crybaby. But don’t worry Basil. If Omori played his cards right, Aubrey, Hero, Kel and even Mari would join him.

This dream world was only big enough for Omori and Sunny, after all.
