Chapter Text

She was hysterical as she sobbed over her brother’s unmoving body, frantically shaking and begging her twin to wake up.

No dice though, he’d suffered a pretty serious head injury there. Wowee. Nothing fatal but Pine Tree definitely wouldn’t be running around anytime soon. That's why you didn't mess with heights, kids!

But hey, she didn’t need to know that her bro would be fine as daisies in acouple of weeks.

So, he stretched the truth a teensy bit.

‘So, what d’ya say, kid?’ he asked, gazing into her wide distressed eyes as he hovered over the pair. ‘If you don’t do anything then ol’ Pine Tree here is gonna kick the bucket. He’s gonna be deadsies for sure.’

Her lip quivered at the thought.

‘But hey, make a deal with me and I’ll fix him right up!’ He held out a dark hand confidently, knowing without a doubt she would accept his oh so generous deal. When it came to the Pines’ family their one main weakness was their sickening and unwavering love for one another. The very same thing that had on more than one occasion defeated the demon much to his ire but hey there's no need to talk about that right now!

Mabel lowered her gaze down to the unconscious form of Dipper Pines, running a hand through his hair. When she pulled her fingers away, they were coated red with blood from the injury on his head. Looked much worse than it really was but again, she didn’t need to learn that tidbit just yet.

Taking in a deep breath, the girl slowly raised her head to meet his eye. ‘Okay,’ she replied softly, looking defeated. ‘I’ll make a deal with you.’ Anything to save her brother.

If he had a mouth he would grin. Gotcha.

‘It’ll be nice to be in business with ya,’ he replied, wiggling the fingers of his outstretched hand in invitation. 'In return you can help me with a few of my own plans.' It should be lots of fun, heh.

Her lip quivered as she reached out her own hand, her fingertips brushing against his own. The demon felt his grasp beginning to wrap around her very soul to confirm their contract—

—and then he was suddenly somewhere else entirely.

The demon gazed out from a pair of eyes — two of them — as he found himself suddenly standing in an unfamiliar golden field.

Wait, what? Where was Gravity Falls? Where was the kid?

The body he was inhabiting suddenly began moving without his consent, and Bill found himself turning around to meet the gaze of a young human woman. With bronze skin and dark hair pulled into an ornately decorated braid, she spoke softly in a language he recognised as ancient Afro-Asiatic.

Panic began swelling in the demon’s mind as he tried to make sense of the situation. This was weird, this was wrong. He’d possessed humans before, but he was always the pilot, never the passenger!

A pair of hands came into the demon’s view as they cupped the woman’s face in a tender manner, her eyes fluttering shut at the gentle touch. It was then he realised the body he was inhabiting was leaning closer as the woman raised her head with lips puckered to meet his.

Oh no, no, no.

He fought and struggled but he held no control over anything. He was trapped.

He could only watch in horror as the two met their lips together—

—and then he was back.

Bill yelled, jerking away as if electrocuted. His mind was a cacophony of spiralling thoughts as he took stock of his surroundings once again. He was back. There was no field, no strange woman, no human vessel he couldn’t control. He patted at his triangular form just to be sure and felt an unending sigh of relief once it was confirmed.

Urgh, he felt all kinds of nauseous. Almost like a hungover. What the heck had that been about!?

‘What happened?’

As if voicing his very thoughts, Bill’s solitary eye dropped down to find Mabel Pines stood staring at him in a curious manner, her brother at her feet and hand still held out. By her behaviour, she didn’t seem to have experienced the same thing he did.

But whatever had just transpired, it had only occurred when he made contact with her soul.

It seemed too convenient to be a coincidence.

Urgh, but he was too nauseous right now to push any further right this second. He needed time to think things over. And a bucket.

The demon began to rescind away. ‘Change of plans. I’ll be seeing ya.’

‘What?’ she yelled, eyes bulging in her face as she lurched forward. ‘But what about Dipper!? You said you’d save him!’

‘Raincheck, bye!’

He vanished out of sight despite her desperate cries, trying to quell the uncomfortable feeling within his chest. He could still feel the sensation of the cool breeze on his face, and the woman’s soft hands on his body.

Urgh. He wanted to throw up.

Whatever was going on with Mabel Pines' soul, he was gonna find out.
