“I know you will, Lawyer Guo,” Bai Shuye smiled tightly, nodding in true gratitude to him. The letter he’d tucked into his sleeve felt like it was burning into his skin. “Thank you.”
“Thank me after we save you,” Guo Qianfan said with a fond glance at Zhao Wei. “We’ll do what we can, that I promise you.”
“May I suggest something?” Zhao Wei blinked, cheeks flushing as he took his husband's cup of tea. A habit that he’d formed, instead of drinking from his own cup he would share the drink with Guo Qianfan.
“Of course,” Bai Shuye said, nodding to him. “Please share any ideas you may have.”
“I mean, she can’t call you home if you are already married? Your spouse's house would actually have jurisdiction over your person if you were to marry at a higher social class.” He swallowed, thinking out loud about another case they’d worked together previously. When he looked up, he found them staring at him more intensely. His grip tightening on the cup. “I am sure you can find someone who’d be willing for a temporary marriage to help you. You’re a good man that’s putting roots here.”
