Zagreus carries the last of the boxes into the house, where Thanatos is already working on unpacking the essentials. It’s their third time doing this, moving in together, but it’s different this time around. Because they’re doing this as a couple, not just as friends, which means Zagreus can sneak all the kisses he wants while he passes Thanatos as he’s roaming around the house putting stuff away. And because this time they’re not just renting a house for a year or two before inevitably getting evicted for something completely out of their control; no, this time, they own their house.
“I’m hungry,” Zagreus mutters as they start working in the kitchen, his stomach growling as if on cue.
“I’m not cooking, and you’re not getting near the shiny new kitchen.” Thanatos pecks him on the nose. “Go order something. I’ll join you when I’m done with the pots and pans.”
Zagreus brings him into a quick kiss, then heads into the living room. He plops himself down on the couch next to some boxes, pulling out his phone. He quickly orders their usual from their favourite gyros shop (which is now a ten minute walk from their house, a factor they definitely took into consideration when deciding which house to buy).
After ordering, he heads back into the kitchen, helping Thanatos clear out some space on the table. Organisation has never been Zagreus’ strong suit, so he just follows his boyfriend’s lead throughout it all. Thanatos seems to appreciate the help, If his constant little touches and kisses are anything to go by. It had taken Thanatos a while to become comfortable with touching Zagreus, but after he finally did, Zagreus couldn’t stop him if he tried. Not that he wants to; he feels most at ease when Thanatos is touching him in some way. It grounds him.
Just as Thanatos is putting away the last of their brand-new plates, the doorbell rings. Zagreus dashes to the door in record speed (with Thanatos laughing hysterically behind him) and opens it, revealing Hermes, the delivery boy for Styx Gyros.
“Gotta say, boss, the bike ride here is much more pleasant than the one to your old place.”
Zagreus laughs, taking the food from him. “We’ll be sure to order more, then. Tell Charon we say hi.”
“Will do. See ya, Zag!” Then, louder: “See ya, Than!”
Hermes is gone before either of them get to say goodbye, always in a hurry. Zagreus heads back into the kitchen with the mountain of food, setting it on the table before beginning to unpack. Thanatos sits down, grabbing some food for himself. Zagreus mirrors him.
“I can’t believe we own this place,” he says, taking a bite out of his gyros.
“I mean, technically—”
Zagreus places a finger to Thanatos’ lips. “Shh. No more landlords, is what I mean.”
“Okay, fine. But, yes. Me neither. I always thought…” He looks down at his food, deep in thought. “Nevermind.”
“...What is it, Than?”
Thanatos sighs. “Before we got together, and even a bit after that, I thought… I thought you’d get bored of living with me. And you were starting to do better with money, so I was scared you’d want to move out.”
Zagreus reaches out for Thanatos’ hand over the table, holding it tight. Thanatos squeezes back, relaxing slightly. “Hey, none of that, Than. Even if we didn’t end up getting together, I would’ve still wanted to buy a house with you. I just also get to kiss you now.” To make his point, Zagreus leans over to Thanatos, placing a sweet kiss to his lips. Thanatos kisses him back, his free hand snaking up his neck, holding his jaw. “And do some other stuff,” he adds, giggling, then sits back down, enjoying the sight of his flustered boyfriend.
Zagreus only notices the tzatziki on the bottom of his shirt a few hours later, as Thanatos is removing it, and at that point he couldn’t care less about it.
