Work Text:

It’d been about a month since Valentine's Day, and Mr Plant was reading. Argos was coming over later. He seemed pretty excited, though Mr. Plant didn't yet know why. Argos was always excited to come over, but never this excited. In the back of the mind, he wondered what made Argos so excited. It kind of excited Mr. Plant.

He wrung his hands together, eventually shutting his book. He looked out his window, then at his clock. Argos was babysitting a little longer today. Mr. Plant went back to his seat and continued reading. After about half an hour, there was a knock. Mr. Plant put down his book. Argos walked in. "H-hey, Mr. Plant."

Argos’s face was red. Argos's face was always red, “Did you hear the news?'"

Mr. Plant had no television. He’d heard no news.

“The stars are going to be out tonight."

That explained a lot. Stars were rare, so that was exciting. He knew Argos loved the stars.

“Not just that!” Argos continued, "but there's going to be a meteor shower!"

Meteor showers in the void were like total eclipses outside. They happen two or three times a year in the void as a whole, but most places in the void were uninhabitted, like oceans, and they typically happened over those areas. No wonder Argos was so excited.

“Anyways,” Argos gave a nervous laugh, "I was just wondering if-”

Mr. Plant nodded. He’d go.

“R-really?”

Again, Mr Plant nodded. Why wouldn't he go? it would make Argos happy, and he had nothing better to do.

Argos smiled, his breath was shaky and Mr. Plant could have sworn he heard the *other’s* heart beat. “Aright," Argos giggled, “Alright- I-I’m gonna go and get everything we need. Be right back!” Argos ran out the door, paused, ran back to give Mr. Flower a hug, then ran back to his car.

Mr. Plant closed the door and returned to his book. He'd almost finished it. Argos was back pretty quickly, he’d brought blankets and snacks and such. He sat everything up outside while Mr. Plant boiled water for tea. It was beginning to get dark.

Argos ran inside and practically dragged Mr. Plant out, “Look!”

Mr. Plant looked. He saw stars. He heard Argos gasp.

It hadn't gotten completely dark yet, but a handful of stars twinkled in the sky.

Stars were rare. Of the three hundred sixty-five (sometimes sixty-six) days of the year, It would be stary for around thirty nights. Mr. Flower had seen stars before, he just never cared to look at them.

The two stood there until the kettle could be heard whistling, Mr. Plant went back in to finish the tea. Argos finished up outside. By the time Mr. Plant had come back outside, it had gotten dark. The amount of stars in the sky multiplied by the thousands. Argos looked up from the outdoor blanket fort he had made. "Mr Plant!-” He called as the plant walked over “I-i just wanted to say thank you for agreeing to do this with me. I love you.” Argos hugged his partner. Mr. Plant hugged back.

“Now come on! Come-come sit down” Argos smiled, red faced as always and pulled the other to a seat.

“Wait, Mr. Plant- look!” Argos pointed at the sky and Mr. Plant watched as the first shooting star rushed by. "Make a wish, hurry."

Mr. Plant wished for a new television.

He heard Argos’s whispered wish as well. "I wish for my relationship with Mr Plant to remain stable forever."

He opened his eyes and smiled at Mr. Flower, then laid on his back to watch the sky.

Mr. Plant didn’t care for stars as much as Argos did, but they really were pretty, and he did care to see Argos happy.

They watched the sky for the rest of the night. They had a good time.
