It all starts in Yang Jungwon’s living room—it’s his 18th birthday and Sunghoon is tipsy. Most of them are, and it’s loud and stuffy and wonderful and he’s not sure who suggests it, probably Jake or maybe even himself, because they’re young and drunk on life and grapefruit flavored beers.
Mind feeling numb, he watches Jongseong and Monday break apart with shut eyes and flushed cheeks, lips red and slicked with spit. He doesn’t even know for how long they kissed—he must’ve zoned out for some reason.
Jongseong clears his throat and Monday hits him, throwing her head back in laughter, clearly less affected by it than him.
“’kay,” she practically yells, “let’s see who’s next!”
She spins the bottle and it lands on Niki, who has been uncharacteristically quiet ever since they started playing.
He whimpers, exchanging a look with Heeseung, who pats his shoulder reassuringly. “You don’t have to play, Niki. Or we can switch it up? Seven minutes in heaven instead of—you know—making out in front of a crowd? Then you can choose if you want to kiss in private and not feel pressured.”
Everyone seems okay with that and even Niki seems to calm down a bit, hesitantly reaching for the empty glass bottle in the middle of their small circle.
It’s just their friend group, plus some plus-ones, like Sunoo’s friend Yuna and Jake’s something Monday (Jake always spoke of her as Jimin, but she introduced herself as Monday, so that’s what Sunghoon went with), who’d just spent at least two minutes devouring Jongseong’s mouth, so he guesses their relationship was either of platonic or of open nature.
Niki spins the bottle and it lands on Sunoo, who has been busy building a tower out of crown caps, and now looks up to everyone calling for him, expression confused.
“Huh?”
Yuna nudges him with her foot. “You get to make out with Niki,” she beams and Sunoo’s eyes widen, meeting Niki’s, who doesn’t look too happy about it either.
Sunghoon is really curious about what goes on between Sunoo and Niki these days—joined at the hip up until a couple months ago, something had happened between the two of them, leaving them in a weird, awkward and clearly not-so-friendly limbo for the time being.
“Whatever,” Niki rasps, already getting up and even holding out a hand for Sunoo to take, though the latter seems to prefer getting up by himself and stalking past Niki with a huff.
“See you in seven!” Heeseung calls back cheerily, wiggling his feet.
Niki flips him off and disappears into the next room, probably in search for a closet—or just another, lockable room.
“You know what’s going on between them?” Sunghoon finds himself asking Yuna, who responds with an unexpected glare. O-kay. Clearly wrong timing on his part.
He turns away and watches Monday and Jake share a fleeting peck. Huh. He really can’t seem to catch up with his friend’s love lives anymore. Life was so easy in middle school—everyone dated everyone at some point and kissing (usually just a small peck on the lips, eyes squeezed shut and running away right after) was way bigger of a deal. Sunghoon misses how easy and uncomplicated everything was back then.
Sunoo and Niki return after ten full minutes that the rest of them spend with turning up the music and singing along to some 2010s pop rather terribly.
Sunghoon’s eyes immediately find Sunoo’s lips—he looks unkissed, the soft auburn of his lip tint still intact. For some reason it fills him with something akin to relief.
They look less tense around each other though, even sharing some civil smiles. Wow, the power of seven—or ten—minutes in heaven. They drop down together, Sunoo exchanging a look with Yuna who shoots him an impressed grin. He leans forward, slim fingers grabbing the bottle and spinning it with too little force, it not even doing a full round, immediately stopping in front of Sunghoon.
“Oops.” Sunoo shrugs at him, already going back to playing with his crown caps.
Sunghoon sighs, willing himself not to pout at the lack of attention the younger guy is giving him today. Maybe it’s the alcohol—why else would he feel that way?
He spins the bottle, silently praying for it to land on Yuna, just to confront her about why she’s being strange to him when they only ever met once at Sunoo’s last birthday party.
It lands on Sunoo.
“Gee, thanks,” the boy speaks, face blank. Sunghoon raises an eyebrow at him, seriously irritated.
“Should I go again, or—?”
“No redos, Park Sunghoon,” Monday laughs from her spot on Jake’s neck. God, when had that happened? Sunghoon suddenly feels dangerously close to sensory overload, the music still loud from before, too many pairs of eyes on him.
He gets up shakily, earning a series of claps and whoops. Since when have his friends been so obnoxiously loud? Why is he so nervous?
Sunoo pushes himself up as well, a lot steadier than Sunghoon. They make their way into the next room and Sunghoon follows him into the bathroom next to Jungwon’s parents’ bedroom. They’re not there, thankfully, but it still feels strange.
“Seven minutes in bathroom, more like,” he jokes but he can tell it falls flat by Sunoo’s staring at him, expectantly.
“Um,” he continues, feeling awkward.
Sunoo sighs, taking a step forward. For a second, Sunghoon thinks he’ll kiss him, but then he sits down at the edge of the bathtub. Sunghoon does the same, playing with the hem of his shirt.
“So, you don’t—um. You don’t wanna kiss, I’m gathering?”
Sunoo rolls his eyes and before Sunghoon can guess what his reply will be, there’s a soft pair of lips crashing against his own, Sunoo’s finger fisting into the front of his shirt.
The kiss is short but intense and Sunghoon wouldn’t be sure it actually happened if it weren’t for his mouth tingling and that crazy, hungry look in Sunoo’s widened eyes.
“You fucking asshole,” hisses the younger and Sunghoon doesn’t know what to reply, so he doesn’t, which Sunoo takes as an invite to continue the kissing.
He breathes into his mouth hotly, fingers gripping Sunghoon’s hair with more strength than he should possess. Sunghoon lets him do what he wants because there clearly are some unresolved issues between them he hadn’t been fully aware off, and he’s honestly glad to finally get Sunoo’s face on his—to let his hands slip under his shirt, grabbing at the warm flesh of his waist, pulling him tighter, as tight as possible on the ledge of the bathtub, tighter until—
—until they fall into the bathtub, both of them letting out a pained yelp.
“What the fuck ?” Sunoo glowers at him and Sunghoon doesn’t want to, he really doesn’t, but he looks so angry and so cute, a string of giggles bubbling up in his chest, escaping just as Sunoo looks like he’s about to actually beat him up.
Sunoo stares at him for a moment in disbelief. Sunghoon just continues laughing.
“You’re so absurd,” mutters the younger, shaking his head, running his fingers across his lips. “I just kissed you,” he continues, more to himself but Sunghoon still nods.
“Yup. What happened between you and Niki?”
Sunoo seems to understand that Sunghoon’s absolutely useless in his intoxicated state, be it from the booze or the kissing. He sighs and shrugs.
“We aren’t friends anymore. Nothing actually happened. We just—we’re different people, and stuff.” Another shrug. Sunghoon licks his lips, chasing after the slowly vanishing feeling of Sunoo’s tongue against his.
“And stuff. Get it. So, why’d you kiss me?”
At this, Sunoo lets out a guttural groan. “Seriously? For the same reason Yuna absolutely hates your guts.”
Sunghoon frowns, blinking as not to get lost in Sunoo’s eyes. “Right, that. Why, again?”
“Fuck,” Sunoo breathes out, reaching for his face again, licking into his mouth like a starved man. Oh—okay. Sunghoon tries to get into the rhythm but he’s so confused, their teeth clash together uncomfortably a few times, so Sunoo moves onto his neck, running his teeth and the tip of his tongue along Sunghoon’s sensitive skin.
“I can’t believe I’m a—” he leaves a trail of kisses right below Sunghoon’s jawline, ”—full-blown morosexual.”
“A what?”
“Exactly, keep doing that,” Sunoo huffs against his throat, before he comes up again, pressing a few softer kisses on the corner of Sunghoon’s mouth.
“Tell me,” Sunghoon whines, not being able to stop the pout from forming this time. He lets Sunoo kiss it away a bit, but then he puts up a hand to his face, shielding his lips from any other mind-slowing kisses. “Tell me,” he repeats and this time Sunoo groans again but complies.
His eyes are glued to Sunghoon’s forehead, right between his own eyes, one of those psychology tricks Jongseong likes to talk about so much, though he doubts that Sunoo actually wants to manipulate him into feeling insecure, and just feels insecure himself. Neither of them have ever been good with eye contact—with each other, that is.
“Yuna doesn’t like you because I’ve had a…thing for you for months and she thinks you’re playing hard to get to mess with me, but I think you genuinely just might be too oblivious to realize how badly I’ve been wanting to—um. Do this?”
Sunghoon’s mouth goes dry and he drops his hand into his lap.
“I didn’t even know I liked you up until I got jealous at the thought of you and Niki making out in here. I’m sorry. Please tell Yuna I don’t play hard to get. I’m very gettable. In fact, you can get me right now. You can—”
“I’m gonna have to ask you to stop talking, babe, even though it’s seriously doing something for me. I can’t kiss you if you’re talking, though, so…” Sunoo’s attempt at a smile is seriously terrible and a little bit disgusted with himself but maybe Sunghoon likes it.
Instead of responding, he just flashes a grin himself, Sunoo’s eyes darkening immediately.
“Guys, it’s called seven minutes in heaven for a reason,” Heeseung deadpans the moment they walk back into the living room. Monday and Jake seem to have left and Yuna and Niki are playing Uno, sitting on opposite ends of the couch table.
“It’s my birthday and I haven’t even been kissed yet,” Jungwon mumbles and immediately Jongseong leans over to him, pressing a small peck on his cheek, making the younger blush profusely.
Sunoo and Sunghoon exchange a look.
