March 21, XXXX
It’s a normal day to people of Klein as the loud bartering of merchants selling their wares, peasant children running through the streets are a common sight A man, tall, slender with a very noticeable gate on his walk, led his troops in their normal patrol route to keep the city’s peace and order. To Edmond, today was just a normal day.
Nothing too special.
He rose up 6:00 in the morning, took a bath and made himself presentable, wearing his uniform before meeting the knights with the captain for briefing. He is tasked by the captain with his men to do city patrol which he does. It’s been 2 hours since then. The sun is up and shinning bright in the horizon. He feels sweat trickle down his neck as the sun’s rays heat his body up.
It’s at noon that he orders the Knights to return to the barracks to get their lunch that he spots the fraudulent sorcerer and Yakumo shopping that he approaches.
“Eiden, Yakumo” he greets, nodding his head.
“Ah! Sir Edmond” Yakumo exclaimed, surprise flashing into his face.
“Ah, Hi Edmond!” Eiden turns, grinning.
“What are you doing?” Edmond asks, his eyes narrowing as the fraud turns back to the merchant, taking the bag that seems to have been their purchase.
“It’s just for something I wanted to see Yakumo cook! It’s a food from my place” Eiden saids, scratching the back of his head.
Edmond hummed before shifting his eyes to the fidgeting Yakumo.
“Yakumo, please be careful that this fraud doesn’t make trouble”
Yakumo quickly nodded before saying that they needed to hurry back so they can start cooking.
Edmond watched as the Eiden perked up and grabbed the other’s hand and ran away, waving goodbye to Edmond. He lingered in the middle of the street as h he watched them get smaller and smaller in the horizon, confused why they were hurrying before shaking his head to his head back to the task at hand.
He returns back to the barracks himself to eat lunch, report back to the captain before watching over the next group of knights as they practice their forms in the training grounds. It was at 3:00pm that he is startled when a squire runs up to him and gives him a sealed envelope.
“Who is this from?” He asks, looking at the given cream envelope, turning it over to see a clear-pressed wax seal, no indication of the house it comes from.
“My lord, the servant of Lord Clinton told me that it is to be given exclusively to the Lord Knight and must only be seen by him. The servant seemed to have pushed his horse to reach the capital as soon as possible.” The squire answers, bowing his head.
Edmond hummed before breaking the seal and opening the letter, recognizing the penmanship immediately.
Greetings Lord Knight, the Vice Captain of the Kingdom of Klein,
It is on our behest that we ask for your assistance in the eradication of these vermins in our territory. We are currently swamped as we had sent additional forces to the south to help in the clearing of mobs that it has now come back to bite us, now not having the immediate back up troops to defend the city.
….
Sir Clinton, Count of Hurbendy
3rd Knight of the Rounds
County of Hurbendy
Edmond immediately stood straight, gripping the sent letter in his hand before folding it.
“Tell the captain that I am to go to the County of Herbendy immediately, having been sent by the count to help and that I must not dally.” Edmond orders, before going to his room to pack and arrange for supplies that he will need for the surprise trip.
8:00pm at the County of Hurbendy, The castle of Sir Clinton
Edmond, having ridden on his horse for 5 hours stops in front of the gate of the mansion of Count Hurbendy, waiting for the knights above the walls to notice him and open the gates. The gates slowly open upwards to allow him entrance, galloping forward to the partially- lit mansion.
He steps up the numerous steps where he finds the Count standing in front of the door, waiting.
Edmond stops and bows, greeting the noble who nods his head back.
“Let us enter and we can talk in my office about the problem” the count says, gesturing Edmond to enter.
Edmond nods, narrowing his eyes at the darkness of the halls.
As soon as his foot steps into the marble floors, the lights flicker on and confetti rain down on him as he gets startled by the screams of ‘Happy Birthday Edmond’ echo through the porch.
Edmond’s wide eyes take in the decorated hall, banners elegantly tied to the pillars, the orchestra starting to create lively music as the fraudulent sorcerer and the vampire Aster come forward.
“Heya, Edmond! Did you like the surprise?” Eiden says, grinning widely at the still shocked Knight.
“What… is this?” Edmond asks, confused. “Wasn’t there a hunt for monsters?”
Aster giggles and answers “Well, there weren’t actually! We just used that as the excuse to get you here for your birthday celebration!”
“You-!” Edmond stutters furiously.
“Ah ah ah, you aren’t supposed to be mad on your party Edmond! Enjoy” Eiden tsked, wagging his index finger before wrapping his arm around the Knight’s slender waist, dragging him forward.
“You fraud! Unhand me right this instant!” Edmond shouts, a bright blush on his cheeks as his eyes shake.
“Ahahah! Come on Edmond, Yakumo and I prepared a nice and sweet white chocolate cake topped with chocolate shavings and a large 3 story Vanilla frosted raspberry filled cake for you to try!” Eiden says, stirring him towards where Yakumo was standing, worrying in front of the cake’s table.
Edmond’s eyes widen as he starts drooling for the cakes prepared.
“I-“ Edmond starts, coughing in his hand to hide his excitement. “Thank you for making these” he says, softly whispering his thanks cheeks flaming red.
“Sir Edmond, Eiden and I hope you enjoy these desserts and I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to you” Yakumo says, his cheeks having a light blush on them as well, shy as he turns to cut a slice from both cakes, giving it to the still-frozen Vice Captain.
“Thank you” Edmond whispers, shakily taking the porcelain plates and taking a small bite out of it, the tang of the raspberry hitting his taste buds and the sweetness of the vanilla from the frosting.
Edmond’s eyes widen, blinking rapidly when a sticky and wet feeling lands on his cheek. He glances to his right and sees a laughing Eiden clutching his stomach, his index finger covered in the cake’s frosting.
“YOU!” Edmond shouts, quickly placing the plates down before turning towards the still laughing fraud.
“FOOD FIGHT!” Eiden shouts, throwing more frosting towards the angry knight. Yakumo blushes and quietly whispers his apologies and follows Eiden, turning the birthday party into a mess of desserts being thrown at each other, covering the people in frosting and bits of cake and chocolate.
Edmond won’t have it like any other…
It was… fun.
It was a birthday he’ll never forget.
