Chapter Text
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Luz?" Amity asked, hesitating before the door to the human realm.
"Of course!" Luz answered, "Now that everyone's safe, and the portal is stable, don't you think we deserve a break? Besides, we haven't had a date in so long!"
"Ok ok," Amity said with a chuckle, "show me around the human realm then."
She scratched the back of her neck shyly, and couldn't help but blush when Luz took her hand. Luz could barely contain her excitement, practically bouncing on her feet. Amity tried to hide her nerves, she had never been to the human realm before. She forced a small smile and tried to keep the tension out of her muscles, but Luz seemed to notice anyway. She pulled Amity closer and placed a comforting hand on her girlfriend's shoulder.
"Hey, y'know we can always do this some other time, when you're feeling more comfortable." Luz said.
"No no, I want to do this with you. I just don't know what to expect, I mean, it's a whole different realm!" Amity responded quickly, trying to sooth Luz's worries.
"Well in that case let me be your fearless champion once again! I'm a human realm expert, you'll be safe with me! Besides, there's really nothing in my realm as weird or scary as yours. We'll be fine, I promise." Luz said with a valiant flex and a brave expression.
Amity nodded with a small giggle, and allowed Luz to take both her hands. Walking backwards so she could still face her girlfriend, Luz slowly led them through the portal, giving Amity plenty of time to change her mind. Luz gave one last pause just before the door, and only stepped through after Amity's nod of confirmation.
It took a moment for Amity's eyes to adjust, the sun much brighter as it filtered through the trees. Once her eyes adjusted she gasped and couldn't help but look everywhere. Luz released her hands and Amity spun in a circle to get a good look at her surroundings. The woods didn't seem all that different, but the sunlight was bright and warm, and the colors seemed so vibrant and pure. Finally she looked back at her girlfriend, and was surprised to see Luz staring at her with a huge grin.
"Soooo what do you think? These are just the woods, there's a lot more to see, but I figured we should start small." Luz asked excitedly.
"It's beautiful, the sky is so clear, and the clouds don't even look angry! And I can't believe all the trees have such pretty green leaves. We'll have to bring Willow along sometime." Amity answered, glancing around once more.
"Absolutely! But today is just for us." Luz responded with a playful eyebrow waggle. "C'mon, I know a good spot where we can relax before we move on!"
Luz took Amity's hand once more, and began leading her through the woods. As they walked Luz spoke of all her favorite things to do in the forest, from bird watching to exploring. Amity listened with rapt attention, occasionally looking away from her precious girlfriend to take in her magnificent surroundings. The trees weren't as tall as Amity had expected, but they were all unique in their own way. Small flowers bloomed in sporadic places. When Amity pointed them out Luz told her that they were called dandelions. Luz showed Amity how to wish on them, and this began a game of who could find the most. Together they blew on their handfuls and watched as they floated away on the breeze. Amity wished for more sweet dates like this, but kept her wish to herself.
"But my favorite thing to do is cloud watching!" Luz continued once they grew bored of the flowers, "You can look for shapes in the clouds!"
She began to lead Amity once more, explaining that she had a special cloud watching spot. Luz grew shy suddenly, confessing that she'd never brought someone to her spot before. Amity rarely saw Luz so subdued, so she wrapped an arm around her middle to comfort her.
"Then this spot will be our secret." Amity reassured her with a blush.
"I think I'd like that." Luz said with a blush of her own.
Hand in hand they continued to walk together, until Luz stopped at the foot of a hill in a small clearing.
"We're here! Oh man it hasn't changed at all, c'mon let's go!" Luz called out joyously.
Amity smiled as Luz began to lead her up the hill, giggling at her girlfriend's enthusiasm. Once they made it to the top they both settled down next to each other, close enough for their legs to brush. Amity blushed slightly, but it was quickly forgotten as Luz began to point at the clouds and call out what she thought they looked like. It only took a few moments for Amity to grasp the idea and run with it, and she began to point out her own.
"That one almost looks like Owlbert!" Amity said excitedly, pointing at a vaguely owl shaped cloud. "And that one looks like King if you squint."
Amity continued to point out shapes in the fluffy clouds, and Luz watched her with a love struck smile across her face. She fell silent as she watched Amity enjoy herself. After a few more moments Amity turned to Luz, and a blush overtook her when she noticed her girlfriend's expression. Luz opened her arms for a hug, and Amity gladly accepted, letting out a flustered squeak when Luz pressed a kiss to her cheek. They cuddled for a while longer, the clouds completely forgotten as they enjoyed each other's warmth.
