Summary:

Johnny is having some issues, and Pony directs him to ask Sodapop.

Work Text:

Johnny grabbed a tuft of his black bangs then left them go, sighing at the length. He knew that his hair was too long for his liking, but his mother and father were too focused on themselves to notice, or even care, about Johnny or his hair length. Therefore, he didn't ever have time to get even a slight trim. Of course, Pony noticed this the moment Johnny had steps foot in the Curtis household, and he gave Johnny some...odd advice.

He walked into the Curtis' kitchen, clearing his throat. He then managed to squeak out, "Um, Soda? I need some, uh, help..." As the words came out, Sodapop had closed the icebox and looked at Johnny with a large grin. From Johnny's perspective, an orange-colored energy surrounded her. He knew that she was in a good mood, or at least looked that way.

"Sure, Johnnycake!" she replied, delightfully grabbing his hands. "I assume you need a haircut, right?" Johnny gulped then nodded, Soda smiling even more. She told him to wait there as she ran off to her and Pony's shared room. Johnny could see her come out of the room with a chair and a small bag, most likely full of hair supplies, heading to the restroom. Quickly, she came back to where Johnny was and grabbed his wrist, leading him inside of the bathroom.

Inside of the restroom, he took note of how the back of the chair was against the sink and how the bag, which was now opened and indeed filled with hair supplies, was placed on the toilet lid. Sodapop ushered for Johnny to sit on the chair, and he complied. "Are you going to wash my hair or something?" he asked as Sodapop leaned his head into the sink.

"If you like me to," she replied as she ran her fingers through Johnny's long hair. "It might be harder to cut if I don't wash it, though..." It took a moment for Johnny to come up with an answer, but he eventually figured that a hair wash wouldn't be too bad. He told Soda that it was alright with him, and she turned the knobs on the sink until it was warm enough.

She then lunged into the shower, grabbing the somewhat large bottle of shampoo her and her brothers shared. She flipped the cap open and squirted a small amount into Johnny's now-wet hair. She did this twice, lathering and rinsing both of those times, before rinsing his hair. Not that he would admit it out loud, but Johnny thought that having Soda was his hair was...mildly comforting? He dismissed this thought as "weird" while Soda was grabbing scissors from the supply bag she had brought it.

"You want me to just trim your hair or cut it all off?" she asked nonchalantly. Though his eyes stung from the water, he managed to open them and look at Sodapop, a completely mortified expression falling on his face. Soda then laughed, coming straight from her stomach. She said through giggles, "Sorry sorry- it was just a joke. I'll just give you a trim." Johnny grinned and rolled his eyes, thinking that—even considering the fact she picked up a habit of raising one eyebrow from the same person—Sodapop was slowly starting to act way more like Two-Bit.

She started off on the hair at the back of Johnny's head, considering it was the closest to the sink. He could hear every single snip! Soda had done, and see her mouth open ever so slightly with each one. He stifled a giggle, convincing himself to not point out the quirk whatsoever, and did his best to look elsewhere. Inside of the room, he could sense an odd mixture of light blue—the color Johnny associated with "calmness"—and orange energy.

As Johnny had absorbed the observation he made, he felt Sodapop grab his bangs and saw her face above. The two grinned at each other before Soda started her work on Johnny's bangs. Again, he noticed Soda's quirk, but this time it was closer and easier to tell. He heard Soda put down the pair of scissors before ruffling Johnny's hair to get excess out.

She lifted Johnny's head up and grabbed a towel, ruffling his hair the same as before. "We're done! Take a look and tell me what you think," Soda exclaimed, stepping back so Johnny could look in the mirror. Now being able to see without bangs getting in the way, he saw all of his fluffy, black hair trimmed in a way he thought was gorgeous. However, he didn't have the courage to say what he felt, so he gave Soda a large embrace instead.
