Work Text:
Peter has been a member of the Avengers for about three years now, but only recently has he been allowed to go on international missions with them. After all, his schoolwork was more important to his mentor Tony Stark and now that he was 18, he was given a bit more freedom. He even moved into Avengers Tower, as most of his friends were Avengers anyway. It was basically like one big dormitory, according to Peter. Another big advantage of living in the tower was that he could now spend more time with his best friend, Wanda Maximoff. She joined the Avengers a bit before him and took him under her wings, since they were by far the two youngest team members, with Peter at now 18 and Wanda at 21.
The Quinjet was in its final approach, when Tony took Peter aside.
“So, are you excited for your first mission after party?” he asked Peter with glee in his eyes.
“Not really, I mean, I am not even allowed to drink yet,” Peter complained. “How much fun can that even be?”
“Ah come on, I am sure a few sips won’t hurt you. After all, 18 is good enough for basically everywhere else in the world and as long as you don’t tell on me, we are good,” Tony encouraged Peter, which led to Steve throwing him a dark look. “Don’t be so righteous, Capsicle. Let the kid have a bit of fun, I pay for cleaning in the morning anyway, should he decide to vomit all over the place,” Tony added.
Steve seemed to think about it for a moment. “All right, if you insist. But Wanda will watch over him the whole evening. And if he shows signs of intoxication, he has to stop drinking right away,” Steve conceded.
The redhead in question looked up from her phone when she heard her name. “I am doing what?” she asked, as she did not pay attention to their conversation right next to her. Peter had to hide a grin at her confused expression.
“You have to watch over Peter tonight, as Tony here has decided to allow him to drink. If he gets drunk, then it’s your fault,” Steve explained to her with a stern face.
Wanda’s face lit up at that. “Peter can drink tonight? That’s great! We will have so much fun,” Wanda said excitedly.
“Just don’t have too much fun. If my memory serves me right, Peter had to hold your hair for half the night after your 21st birthday party,” Clint said from the cockpit. Apparently, their discussion about their plans for tonight did not go unnoticed.
Wanda had the decency to look slightly embarrassed at the memory of her throwing up for what felt like hours back on her own birthday. “That happened once and will never happen again. I know when to stop now,” she clarified.
“Well, if that’s the case then all is good,” Clint said as he landed the jet.
The team exited the jet and prepared for the party Tony has already organised.
A few hours later, the Tower was buzzing with activity. Peter arrived at the main party deck as Tony called it together with Wanda, who picked him up at his room. The youngest Avenger stared at all the people in the room with wide eyes.
“Are there always this many guest that nobody knows?” Peter asked Wanda, who has been to a few post mission parties before.
The Sokovian laughed at Peter inexperience, before she grew serious again. “Yes, usually. Tony likes to brag with everything he has during these parties. But you don’t have to talk to any of them. Just stick with me and now let’s get you something to drink,” Wanda said excitedly. Peter dutifully followed his friend to the bar.
From the other side of the room, Tony watched their exchange with a smile on his face. “Ah, they grow up so fast,” he said proudly as he wiped a non-existent tear from his eye. Bruce shook his head at Tony behaviour, but grinned himself at the situation.
“Do we even know if Peter can get drunk? Don’t forget, I had to develop special meds for him because of his metabolism. And Steve, who is the most similar in that regard to him, can’t get drunk either,” Bruce said, more to himself than to Tony.
“Ah, forget the work for a moment and just enjoy the party. If Peter can’t get drunk then it’s even better. He can drink even more,” Tony said happily.
“But what’s the point if he doesn’t even feel the effects of the alcohol? He can drink something that actually tastes good instead,” Bruce questioned.
Tony gave him an annoyed look. “Look, just let Peter have his fun. And if he doesn’t feel the effects who cares? Peter won’t know the difference anyway if he can’t experience it,” Tony figured.
Shaking his head, Bruce left Tony to talk with somebody else. The party was already in full swing when Tony found Bruce a few hours later. He talked with Natasha about the last mission, while Rhodey, who was in Washington during the mission, listened attentively.
“So has either of you seen Peter lately? I am getting worried since he hasn’t talked with me yet since the party started,” Tony said concerned.
“Ohh, look how much he cares about his protégé,” Natasha said overly sweet. The truth is, besides Tony and Wanda, she was probably Peter’s favourite teammate, as they regularly trained with each other. “I saw him with Wanda a few minutes ago. It actually seemed as if he was slightly drunk,” Natasha added at Tony’s glare.
“Really? I would actually like to perform a few experiments with Peter when he has the time if that’s the case. It’s absolutely curious why he apparently can feel the effects of alcohol when he has trouble feeling the effects of meds,” Bruce reflected.
“Please don’t perform any experiments on Peter while I am still living,” Tony demanded, before he turned back to Natasha. “Did Wanda seem drunk to you when you saw them?”
“A bit more than Peter, but far less than at her birthday party. I am sure they will be fine,” Natasha calmed Tony down.
Tony walked away from them, shaking his head in the process. Sometimes he couldn’t believe the kid. At this point, he was sure that Peter would be the cause for his untimely demise later on. Was it really too much to ask to at least talk with the person who allowed you to get drunk during the party? Tony had half a mind to go searching for Peter, but in the end, he figured that that would be something that Clint would do, and Tony was definitely above Clint in that regard.
The hours passed and the external guests started to leave one after another. Tony has still not seen Peter and Wanda since the party started, but he has made his peace with that fact. Peter would surely tell Tony about it during their lab sessions, so he was not worried. Right now, he stood at the bar with Natasha and Steve, when Clint joined them.
“Hey, has either of you seen Peter and Wanda lately? I wanted to see how drunk he is and make a few pictures to blackmail him in the future,” Clint asked the group. However, nobody in the group has seen either of the two for at least two hours. Apparently the last time somebody saw them was when Natasha noticed them all those hours ago.
“You don’t think that he is wasted and throwing up in his room, do you?” Steve asked concerned.
“No, I am sure Wanda would have told us about that,” Tony tried to calm everybody down, but it was obvious in his voice that he was everything but calm himself.
“Oh boy, would I love to have pictures of that,” Clint said.
Natasha gave him an angry glare. “You better don’t blackmail my spider-bro, or you will have problems with me,” she threatened Clint, who shrunk considerably under the Black Widow’s stare. “You know what, just use Friday to look for Peter if you are that concerned about him,” Natasha finally proposed to Tony.
Tony did not seem convinced by that. “I don’t know, that does seem like an invasion of privacy, don’t you think?” he questioned.
“Really, you suddenly worry about an invasion of privacy? Do I have to remind you about the whole Ultron debacle?” Natasha asked him sarcastically.
Tony winced slightly when Natasha reminded him of his maybe greatest mistake. “You know what, let’s do this old school. We will simply go and look for them. That way Clint may even get his pictures,” Tony proposed.
They all agreed to go look for Peter, but only after Natasha had to forcefully remove Clint’s phone from his pocket. At first, they decided to check the public bathrooms, but nobody seriously believed that they would find them in there. After all, at least somebody would have talked about a sick teenager in a bathroom during the course of the evening. As expected, the bathrooms were empty bat some guests that were just about to leave. They went to Wanda’s room next, since it was the closest one, but nobody was in there.
Hoping that they would find success in Peter’s room, they walked over to his door. Tony knocked on the door, but nobody answered. Thinking that the coast was clear, he gently opened the door and looked inside. The other Avengers looked over his shoulders to see if Peter was in there themselves. And what they saw mad their jaws drop to the ground. Peter and Wanda were sleeping under the blanket and if the amount of female underwear on the floor was anything to go by, they were not clothed.
Hastily, Tony closed the door again. Neither Peter nor Wanda rose from their sleep, which calmed Tony down just a bit. At least he would not need to have that conversation right now. The Avengers stared at each other speechlessly.
“Well, I knew Peter had a crush on Wanda, but I didn’t know that Wanda apparently also felt something,” Natasha finally broke the silence.
“You knew that there might be a possibility that this might happen? And I was the one to propose that Wanda watches over Peter tonight,” Steve whispered full of self-doubt.
“Oh come on, it’s not that bad, at least Peter and Wanda seemed to have some fun tonight,” Clint finally said. “Although, that would have been some great pictures. Just think of what I could have gotten out of it.”
Tony was the last of them to regain his ability to speak. “Oh god, I hope they at least used protection. Why haven’t I gifted Peter a box of condoms for his birthday?” Tony said in despair.
“Relax, I am sure that they weren’t that stupid,” Clint reassured Tony. “Come on, let’s get back to the bar. I need a drink on that.”
They all went back to the bar, still processing what the just witnessed. Tony poured everyone a large glass of vodka, before he downed his own drink in one go.
“Friday, do you have some footage of Peter and Wanda being intimate in the common area?” Tony asked suddenly.
“I have footage of them kissing, yes,” the female voice confirmed right away.
Natasha looked at Tony curiously. “What’s your game plan there?” she asked him confused.
Tony gave Natasha a devilish grin. “I want to see how they play it tomorrow morning,” Tony explained grinning. “Friday, do me a favour and print a few pictures of them kissing for me. I will probably need them at breakfast.”
Steve looked at Tony disappointedly, while Clint couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of confronting Peter and Wanda. Surprisingly, Natasha had no objections either. When she noticed the expecting looks from her teammates, she simply said, “What? I think embarrassing Peter a little bit is not too bad. Just don’t blackmail him.”
Nodding once, Tony went to retrieve the prints, before they all went to bed themselves.
On the next morning, Tony, Natasha, Clint, Steve and most of the other Avengers were already waiting in the kitchen when a sleepy Peter arrived. Tony has briefed the rest of the team on the actions of last night and they now all knew that Peter and Wanda were caught in bed together.
Peter did not notice the looks the Avengers gave him and slowly poured himself a steaming cup of hot coffee. Unlike normally, he did not add any milk though and simply drank it black. A few minutes later, Wanda also arrived in the kitchen and she did not look much better than Peter, if even. She also did not notice the looks of the other Avengers and calmly got herself a cup of coffee, before sitting down next to Peter.
Tony let them drink their coffee for a bit, before he finally confronted them.
“So, did you have fun yesterday, Peter? How was it to drink hard liquor for the first time?” Tony asked innocently.
Peter looked at him with tired eyes. “It was fine. I guess I can feel the effects of alcohol after all, but nothing to worry about,” Peter answered him.
“And I guess that Wanda took good care of you throughout the night, right?” Tony continued.
Peter stared at Tony blankly, while Wanda tried to hide her face behind her cup of coffee. “I guess, yeah. She tried her best to keep me as sober as reasonable possible,” Peter explained.
“So, when did you leave the party? We didn’t see you at all,” Tony asked him. By now, the rest of the Avengers was getting impatient with Tony’s slow approach.
“Ah, no, when Wanda noticed that I reached a certain level of drunkenness, she made me go to bed. So that’s what we did. Wanda brought me to my room and left me for myself,” Peter said neutrally. It was obvious that this was the lie Peter and Wanda came up with, but Tony didn’t show that he knew that.
“How very thoughtful of Wanda. So, to keep it short, do you have anything to say about these pictures?” Tony shoved the pictures across the table. They showed Peter and Wanda in a tight embrace while they kissed each other. Peter and Wanda both took on a bright red colour. “That not all by the way. We were worried about you yesterday, so we went looking for you. We may have taken a glance in your room as well. And oh boy were we surprised by the amount of people sleeping in the bed,” Tony continued.
Peter’s face now resembled a tomato and Wanda didn’t look much better. He looked around the room, only to find the rest of the Avenger grinning at his apparent embarrassment. Clint’s face was especially hard to stomach.
Finally, Peter managed to open his mouth again.
“Oh crap.”
