Work Text:

“Babe, are you almost ready to go?” you shouted as you put the finishing touch on your costume.

About a week or so ago, you had reconnected with an old friend from high school and they had invited you to a Halloween party that they were having. With no other plans for the night, you accepted the invitation and informed Diego of the party the two of you would be going to.

Diego walked in, all ready to go, but stopped in his tracks and stared at your costume in confusion. “What are you wearing?” he asked in shock.

“What are you wearing?” you echoed as you took in the vision in front of you that was your boyfriend. Diego stood in front of you with a dress shirt, slacks, even complete with a tie. While you couldn’t help but think that he looked extremely attractive, it didn’t really scream Halloween costume. Unless, of course, he was going for the horrors of an office job?

“I thought we were going to your friend’s party? Last time we went to one of those you told me I wasn’t allowed to wear my knives.” he defended and you chuckled at the memory.

“We are, Diego, but it’s a Halloween party. That doesn’t really scream costume, babe. “When was the last time you went to a Halloween party?” you asked with a chuckle and played with his tie.

The awkward cough and shifty eyes Diego responded with gave you the impression that it had been a while, until he cleared his throat once more and answered. “Uh, never?” it came out more like a question, and you immediately felt bad.

Of course, he and his siblings never had a proper Halloween growing up, and you knew that Diego left the Academy to live a life of solitude vigilante as soon as he could. “Well, don’t worry, we can put together a last minute costume.” you assured him followed by a peck to his lips.

Digging through Diego’s drawers and his side of the closet, you eventually found a t-shirt you had gifted him a few months back as a joke and shoved it into his hands. “Here, put this on underneath your dress shirt.” you told him, and gave him a smile that silently told him to trust you.

When Diego came back from changing, you smiled up at him and unbuttoned the first few buttons to reveal a Superman shirt beneath and he rolled his eyes at you with a smile. “Really, Superman?” he asked though he appreciated your help and the thought nonetheless.

“Wait! One more thing!” you told him and ran back to do some more digging until you found a pair of fake glasses that had somehow ended up in your apartment. Gently placing them on Diego’s face, you stepped back to admire your work, giving Diego two thumbs up in approval. “Well, Superman, ready to go ‘save’ this party from a boring night with our presence?” you asked, intertwining your hands.

“I think you might have been the one to save the night,” he admitted, staring at you lovingly. “but let’s rock this party, sweetheart.” he finished and crashed his lips against yours one more time before allowing you to lead the way.
