Chapter Text
“Another letter from the Queen, my lord.”
“Well? Open it, then.”
Another mundane day at the Phantomhive estate. After the events of The Campania, Ciel had been laying low, but not idle. However, as Sebastian had only recently recovered from his fight with the Undertaker, the amount of research he was able to do into the reaper’s whereabouts was limited. Loathe as he was to admit it, he really wanted his butler to get proper rest. He seemed fine enough by now, however, and a new letter from Her Majesty meant that things would start to pick up again quite soon. Sebastian read the letter aloud to his lord.
“ My dear boy, I am truly sorry to hear about that horrible incident aboard The Campania. I hope you and yours are in good health and spirits after such an event. It brings me great joy to hear the information you have uncovered, but I am afraid there is more work to be done. Derrick Arden, who is the son of my cousin, Duke Clemens, has gone missing from his place of study. He was sent to the countryside to attend Ouran Academy, but the servants at the townhouse have reported he abruptly stopped returning home. Unfortunately, it is not just him. Other students are going missing from this school as well, and it has me quite worried. I wish for Duke Clemens, as well as the others with missing children, to be returned to high spirits at once- something strange seems to be going on at Ouran Academy.”
Ciel scoffed. “I’m sure this would not be such an issue if the Duke Clemens weren’t the Queen’s cousin. Regardless, it’s not quite my place to question Her Majesty’s requests, so…”
“I suppose that means you have to investigate this “Ouran Academy” yourself then, young master. But it is such a highly regarded school, any sort of disguise would be found out rather quickly. There are other noblemen attending, after all.” Sebastian pointed out, smirking. Ciel rolled his eyes.
“Well, then I suppose there is no choice. Having the Queen in my favor could be useful after all, and taking the risk of attending a school myself would certainly put me in that position. Sebastian, do you know anything about this academy?” The wheels were already turning in the young lord’s head on the best way to get into such a prestigious institution. Surely, it wouldn’t be hard to get Sebastian to force a vacancy.
“Well, my lord, I do regret to inform you that it is an academy for those who are closer to adulthood than yourself. The average ages range from fourteen to eighteen, and I am afraid you just miss the mark.” The smug look on his face told that he was not regretful in the least- he never was, when it came to teasing the young lord. Ciel rolled his eyes.
“Oh, of all the bloody- don’t they have some sort of program for exceptionally gifted students? I have not once before let my lacking age get in the way of my work for Her Majesty, and I don’t intend to start.”
“My lord, are you implying you are exceptionally gifted? ”
Again with that damn smirk.
“It shouldn’t be that hard to get in with your help, demon. Or am I overestimating your abilities?”
“Of course not, my lord. Astute as always. I will, of course, find a way to get an acceptance letter into Ouran Academy, where the investigation shall commence.”
