A Way Back To You

Summary:

The death of her lover still left a sting to the fleshing wound in Eun Young Ro’s heart. Days passed, seasons changed, but not her longing feeling for Lim Soo Ho.

This story is a prequel to "Somewhere Only We Know"

Notes:

I previously post this work under the name 'Take Me With You'. But somehow I want to turn it into a series instead. And this is a prequel of my previous work 'Somewhere Only We Know'. So yeah... please let me know if you love this story.

Chapter 1: Saudade

Notes:

saʊˈdɑːdə

(n) a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for something or someone that one cares for and/or loves. It often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never be had again.

(n) the recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, and well-being, which now trigger the senses and make one experience the pain of separation from those joyous sensations.

Chapter Text

The winter season is commonly known as the season of joy. The season when the warmth spread in the midst of the freezing iced weather. Warm lights glistened in every corner of the street. The zeal of Christmas carol filled the street ambience with joy. The snow is falling, covered the tree with its pure white hue. This is the joyful part of Winter.

On the other side, the season of snow might somehow bring a dreary feeling that was left unsaid. The scenery of the deciduous trees only add the agony in the gloomy atmosphere.

Days passed, seasons changed, and she still stood there in front of an unnamed grave of the past lover who filled the whole space in her frail heart.

“Unit 3-28.

My informant told me,

He is resting peacefully in there.”

She once made a promise to her lover that if they make it out alive and he gets to pursue his dream as a singer in a café, and she would definitely come to see his performance no matter how good or bad the weather condition is. But ironically, instead of watching him sing, she only hears silence that filled the mourning air. Throughout the summer heat, the rainstorm, and the chilly winter weather, her present has always been seen at the flock of exile for those who threatened the peace of the South.

“By the time I came to save him, his pulse was very weak.

I took him secretly to my trusted ANSP’s doctor,

He didn’t make it. I have tried my best. I’m terribly sorry Young Ro.”

A piece of information that she got from Lee Gang Mu. She never been so grateful. At least she still got a remainder of him as a keepsake besides the tape and his necklace.  Then, she made it into a routine. Every Sunday afternoon after the long tiring days with a bouquet of flowers in her hand, Eun Young Ro found herself in front of her beloved lover’s grave. Telling him about her days and the thing that they could have been done if he is still alive.

“Hello, Soo Ho-ssi.” Her soft voice echoed in the silence of the desolate cemetery.

“I’m going to clean you, okay.” She then proceeds to cut the wild grass that surrounded the soil that covered his body. Cleaning the tombstone gently as if she was treating his wound back in the attic.

Her eyes are teary, but no tears fall from her eyes. She smiled at the grey object before her as if Lim Soo Ho is also sitting face to face with her. She’s being delusional but that imagination is the one thing that helps her to cope with the harsh reality.

Every night, she always find herself wake up crying from the same dream all over again. The experience of being a normal couple but end up with his bloody cold stiff form at the attic. When she awakes, she always imagine Lim Soo Ho engulf her with his warm muscley arms, but only greeted by the cold air instead.

Once again, just like that she greets loneliness like an old friend. Tears streaming down her beautiful face. Gone all the lights in the doe eyes that once held joy, hope, and desperation of being in love.
