Chapter Text
When Beomgyu hears the bell chime, he looks up and smiles when he realizes that it’s a regular customer.
Choi Yeonjun blinks quickly a few times, and says in surprise: “Did I come late?” He looks at his phone, which tells him otherwise. “Are you closing already?” He asks, hand gesturing to Beomgyu’s stack of glasses that he’s cleaning on the counter, and the leftover pastries and cakes inside the displays that have been covered up with reusable beeswax wrappers, waiting to be put inside the freezer.
“Ah, we’re closing early today.” Beomgyu says, still he takes out a paper bag from under the counter and passes it to Yeonjun. “But I figured you might come so I prepared your usual in advance. I didn’t make the Americano yet because the ice would melt, so wait a sec.”
“Always the best.” The older grins and takes the bag, sliding a bill on the counter, and when he receives the changes he puts them in the tip jar. “But why are you closing early?” Yeonjun asks before taking a large bite out of the sandwich from the paper bag.
“It’s full moon today…” Beomgyu says, as he quickly works on the drink, and Yeonjun slaps his forehead and lets out a sound of realization.
“Oh, shit, right. It’s that time of the month.”
“Yeah.” Beomgyu smiles as he gives Yeonjun the drink, who takes it and slings his messenger bag over his shoulder, ready to go.
“It must be hard.” Yeonjun says as he walks backwards and waves. “Tell Soobin I said hi, though. Hope the fella’s alright.”
“Sure, I will.” Beomgyu agrees, seeing Yeonjun out and moves to the door after he’s left to turn the “we’re open!” sign around so it says “sorry, we’re closed”. He then takes out a piece of paper with the closing notice he’s prepared and stick it on the door. When he goes back inside, he takes a quick look at the LED wooden clock on the counter and hurries to dry the glasses, places them on the cabinets and starts to clean everything.
After he’s done, he gets out of the beige apron and slips on his cardigan instead. Beomgyu turns back at the door once to give a final check, and after he’s made sure that there is no abnormality, he closes the door.
Beomgyu’s next stop is the local supermarket. He hails a cab instead of taking the bus like usual, because he doesn’t have much time. Beomgyu checks his phone frequently, for the messages, as well as the grocery list he made a note of last night to make sure that he doesn’t forget anything – because he frequently forgets things if Soobin’s not there to remind him. When he gets to the supermarket, it’s pretty vacant, and Beomgyu doesn’t waste anytime before he goes straight to the meat and poultry aisle. He fills the shopping cart with red, juicy packs of beef and pork, and has half a mind to pat himself on the back and is proud of how nonchalant he is now, compared to the first time he did this.
Him and his cart stands out from the line of people at the check-out counter. Before he leaves though, he takes a pack of vegan gummies that someone leaves behind and check it out as well. The meat undoubtedly looks out of place in his cotton mesh bag – the kind of ba people are more used to see with fruits and vegetables, but Beomgyu doesn’t care and hail another cab home.
As soon as he is seated, he opens his phone and sends a message.
- How are you?
- Miserable.
- Why?
- Because you’re not here.
Beomgyu tries to hold back a smile, before he looks up and asks the cab driver if he can drive just a bit faster. The drive had been silent, but once Beomgyu starts talking, he glances at the interesting grocery bag next to him and asks: “Your partner is wolf too?”
Beomgyu looks up and nodded reflexively. The cab driver hollers: “Then why didn’t you say so sooner? It’s the full moon today!”
Then he speeds up, and Beomgyu swears he sees his life flashes before his eyes of several times. But then he gets home fifteen minutes earlier than intended, and for that Beomgyu gives the cab driver a sumptuous tip. He takes the grocery bag and all but races to their flat. However, the old lady who rents them the flat on the second floor smiles and waves at him, and when she sees his grocery bag, she stops him, insisting that he takes her homemade kimchi – because “it tastes great with BBQ”. Beomgyu doesn’t have time to explain to her that the meat is not for a BBQ party, so he just takes it. Beomgyu figures he can make himself tofu kimchi stew with this.
His heart races as he gets to their door, because of the speed he was taking, but also because the anticipation of seeing his favorite person in the whole world. He doesn’t even have time to fumble for his keys before he hears excited barking sounds, and then the door swings open.
A golden retriever barges out and licks at his face excitedly, helicopter tail and everything and when Beomgyu feels that the grocery bag is taken from his hand, he looks up to see Soobin at the door.
“Danggeun, stop bothering him and get inside.” He orders, voice soft but Danggeun immediately obeys, and Beomgyu, for some reason does too, as he timidly walks inside after Danggeun.
He puts the keys on the hanger and glances at Soobin, who’s brought the grocery bag to the kitchen counter. And it’s always like the first time he sees him, Beomgyu’s always mesmerized by how tall and big his boyfriend is. He’s not small himself, but he feels tiny next to Soobin and perhaps it is due to the size kink that Soobin always accuses him of having – which he denies every time, but he loves how he can always fit right into Soobin’s arms, and how his big palms can cover Beomgyu’s own. From this point of view, Beomgyu can only see his back, the faint lines of muscles barely visible through the thin white T-shirt.
Soobin’s hair is disheveled, and he’s dressed in comfy clothes and slipper and Beomgyu finds himself soon plastering himself against the broad back.
“Who says they missed me, but then completely ignore me when I basically raced home?” He says, voice sulky, but not really, because Soobin’s already turning, and he spins them around, easily lifting Beomgyu up and seat him on the counter. It is one of the only times Beomgyu can look at Soobin from a higher point of view. And he takes in the golden eyes instead of usual chocolate brown ones, and canines that have started to show. Soobin’s muscles are tensed, and that’s because his body is undergoing a painful transformation and Beomgyu feels it like it’s his own pain.
“I didn’t say I miss you.” Soobin says, teasingly because it’s their ritual to bicker at least once a day.
“You said you’re miserable without me and that’s basically the same.”
“That’s different. I’ve missed you before when we didn’t even start dating. It’s uncomfortable but bearable. Now it’s just painful.” He says and Beomgyu feels his cheeks heat up because he’s totally not expecting this. But Soobin doesn’t stop there, he continues: “You’re the best, the absolute best and I must have saved a fucking country in my past life because I would never find anybody else like you –“
“Okay, okay, stop.” Beomgyu puts a finger on his lips. “Just say you’re grateful and go.”
“But baby,” Soobin nibbles on his finger. “You love it when I appreciate you.”
Ah, there it goes again with the kink accusation. Beomgyu does love praises but don’t everybody else too? He wants to argue, but then finds that it would be more efficient to keep Soobin’s mouth busy. He leans down and Soobin immediately catches his lips with his own.
Large palms pressing on his small waist, demanding tongue in his mouth and Soobin’s filling all of his senses and Beomgyu whines in happiness. He wraps his legs around the other’s torso and hear Soobin grunts in appreciation.
They only pull away when they hear Danggeun’s bark and the knock on the door. Soobin clicks his tongue and oh my god, Beomgyu thinks to himself, that’s so hot. He almost pulls Soobin back, but then decides against it when the knock on the door persists.
“Who’s that?” He asks breathlessly in a low voice.
Soobin runs a hand through his hair in annoyance, his sense of smell is heightened on the full moon so he can tell who it is. “The landlord.”
“Who?”
“The freaking landlord.” Soobin mumbles.
Beomgyu starts to turn to the door, but then he’s stopped by Soobin.
“Let’s not answer.” He says, and Beomgyu’s sitting on the counter again.
“What if it’s something important?” He glances at the door, but it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t need much convince when Soobin’s big palm is stroking his thigh in an unhurried manner.
“I smell pickled white radish. She probably wants to give us that. She’ll leave it out the door.”
“But –“ Beomgyu tries, not because he desperately want pickled white radishes, but he wants to see Soobin try and convince him.
The other understands the assignment. Soobin leans in and whispers in his ears:
“I’m not gonna have a full transformation this time.”
Beomgyu blinks.
“Really?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. I can feel it.”
“So just the tail and, and the ears?”
“Yes.” Soobin says, and shrugs. “Maybe a little bit of fangs too. But I know you like it, so –“
He doesn’t get a chance to finish his sentence, because Beomgyu's already pounced on him.
