Be my Mirror, my Sword and Sheid

Summary:

What if Adora never sent that text? An AU of my AU and part 2 of my Viva La Vida series

Notes:

Despite this being the good ending there is still a tiny bit of angst in the form of two lesbians being disasters hehe

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Adora was growing increasingly bored at this meeting. All she wanted to do was go home to her wife and have a quiet and peaceful night. As soon as the meeting was over she grabbed her bag and began to walk to her car that was sitting in the parking lot. As she sat in her car and pulled out her phone.

She was about to text Catra but decided she’d rather go home first and take a nap than worry about what they were going to do. As she drove home she allowed herself to daydream about their future together. They had been trying for a baby for a while but so far none of the results came back positive. It pained her to see Catra’s face every time the test was negative, Catra always looked so guilty after but Adora never blamed her. She would be an idiot if she thought that it was her fault, the odds just haven't been in their favor.

Adora was starting to think that this just wasn’t in the cards for them, she didn’t think she could stand to see that look on Catra’s face again. But if they didn't try they would never know.

She pulled onto their street but Catra’s car wasn't in the driveway. Adora pulled in and as she got out she saw Catra’s car turn onto their street. Instead of going into the house she opted to wait till Catra pulled into the driveway.

Catra got out of the car and her eyes widened when they landed on Adora. ‘Has she been waiting here? Did she see the note?!’ Catra’s thoughts were racing and Adora didn’t look as happy as she thought she would be, especially after all of their previous attempts.

Catra got her stuff from the passenger seat and got out of the car. “Hey Adora” she said, trying to keep the nervousness from showing in her voice. Adora’s eyes drifted to the bag in Catra’s hands.

“Hey Cat, whatcha got there?” She asked, trying to break the unspoken tension between them.

Catra raised her hand that held the bag “Oh just some stuff to celebrate, figured I should get something to surprise you, but it seems you got back before me.” She laughed. She expected Adora to be happy but she just looked confused.

“What are we supposed to be celebrating?” Adora asked, growing more and more nervous as the seconds passed and Catra’s smile fell from her face.

‘Is she serious!?’ Catra couldn’t believe her ears, she left an obvious note telling her that she was pregnant with her baby and even left the positive pregnancy test on the bathroom counter. Is this simply not what Adora wanted anymore?! Catra was growing a bit frustrated. But she had to hold out hope for her, Adora could genuinely be confused.

“Well I kinda thought the note I left made it obvious but I guess you are an idiot” Catra walked over and raised up to kiss her cheek “But you’re my idiot so that makes up for it, but I can't tell if you’re being serious or just being an ass either way let's just go inside.”

Before Adora could respond Catra walked inside and put her bags on the table and started to get things out. Adora had no idea what Catra was talking about but followed after her wife either way, fiddling with her ring the whole way in.

Catra picked up the note she left, showing it to Adora trying to convince herself that Adora cared. “I mean was this not obvious enough for you ‘Dora?” she said, handing the note to her as she continued to empty the bag.

Adora simply just looked at the note and immediately started to tear up. She read the pink piece of paper, the note written in Catra’s handwriting saying

“Guess who’s going to be the best mom in the world!!! Hint: blonde, amazing, and Adora-ble <3”

That explains everything, Catra’s weird behavior and the surprise Catra kept talking about. She dropped the note and picked up her wife and felt like she could die the happiest woman in the world. Tears of happiness streamed down Adora's face and she hugged Catra close. Catra on the other hand was completely caught off guard by Adora’s burst of emotion and then it clicked, she didn't see the note despite it being on the brightest color paper they owned.

“You didnt see the note did you, you big dummy!” She laughed as her wife kept showering her with kisses.

“No, I got here literally seconds before you did and couldn’t stand another second without you.” She said between kisses.

“You are such an idiot you know that?” Catra asked her wife and mother to her child.

“Yeah but I’m your idiot.” she said.

Catra was happy with the life she built with her wife, her mirror, her sword and shield. Things were coming together for the both of them, they had a home they shared, stable jobs and to tie things together, a child on the way.

They really were happy, truly happy.
