Work Header

DNF is Over

Summary:

Sapnap just wanted to go outside for a little bit before they practiced for MCC. He didn't expect to come face to face with a crowd of fans on their doorstep. He certainly didn't expect to be defending Dream's manly honor when the fans waiting got a bit too simpy
OR
The crack fic that absolutely no one asked for.

Notes:

I haven't written the acting au in a hot second and because MCC was yesterday I thought this would be funny. Back to angst tomorrow.
Hope you all enjoy! :)

Work Text:

Sapnap sighed for what felt like the millionth time while he watched the crowd. It wasn’t too big all things considered. But it was still a relatively large group and they were standing outside his house so he felt he had the right to be mildly irritated.

Unfortunately for him, this kind of thing happened all the time.

George and Dream were both inside still. George was probably still sleeping and Dream was getting ready for the day. They’d been server hopping from one challenge to the next. Tournament to Tournament and now they were getting ready for a day of practice for the upcoming MCC. It was a big deal for all of them. So Dream had said they should get up early and go spend the day practicing to make sure they were perfect. Afterall, the whole DreamTeam was on the same team. They needed to make sure they performed to expectation. They’d done it and won before. They set the standard. Their fans screamed their names and cheered for them. They said there was never a chance they could lose. So they needed to make sure they held that again.

On the other side of that, however, it also meant people could guess they’d be practicing and brought a slew of fans to come see their favorite fighters, builders, puzzlers, and aces train for the competition. They were each granted temporary houses on the practice server. No one was allowed to go to the actual event server until the day of. Cameras nearly constantly covered the practice areas but they stayed out of the resting zone. It was an unspoken rule between all the players. They all needed downtime where they didn’t feel like they had to put up a performance.

As it was now Sapnap was standing with his arms crossed over his chest in front of the front door staring down a group of fans. They’d apparently camped out there overnight after one of them saw where they went and were waiting. He’d gone out to run through some warmups before heading out to the practice area but came face to face with them. Part of him wanted to go back inside. Dream was better at dealing with things like this than he was. But if he went in and Dream was there without his mask then he could leak his face and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

It was a stalemate. He could see a good chunk of them were wearing merch. It ranged from just one of them to whole Dream Team merch. Some even wore combinations. They were yelling questions at him and he was trying to do his best to answer but nothing was really working out well in his favor. Not that he’d thought it would.

He felt his heart nearly leap out of his chest when the door opened behind him. He whipped around fast to try to stop whoever it was, mostly since he thought it was Dream, but he ended up coming face to face with George. Hair a complete mess and lines on his face from how he’d laid against his pillow. He looked like an idiot.

He watched George squint in the light. Watched him take in the crowd of people and Sapnap’s own disgruntled appearance. He expected George to help. To shoo the people away and pull him back inside where they could relax and wait for Dream. He wasn’t sure why he thought that. Not when George had the chance to laugh at his friend’s easy misery. Sapnap just glared at him. The crowd was only growing and George was just mocking him.

“Stop laughing and help me.”

George’s giggles subsided enough that he was able to breathe and take in the growing audience. Only a few of the other houses were experiencing similar things. Though, none of them were foolish enough to just stand on the doorstep and stare at the fans there.

“Didn’t you offer them pictures?”

Sapnap frowned. He had. When he’d first stepped out he’d offered. It was usually the fastest way to get the fans calmed down and on their way. But he’d gotten his answer and he’d been stuck after that.

“They want all of us.”

George snorted at the response. Another bout of chuckling laughter leaving him as he watched Sapnap’s growing pout with mirth.

“Dream sent me to see what you were doing. Guess I’ll tell him to put the mask on before he comes downstairs.”

Relief spread through him instantly. He didn’t have to worry about Dream’s face. He’d be fine.

“I’ll just go in with you and tell him.”

“No you won't.”

George put a hand out to stop him. Backing away further into the house himself and grinning at Sapnap’s confusion.

“What? Why?”

“Because,” He said it so proudly and that really should have warned Sapnap that things were about to go very south. “You’re going to be stopping them from breaking in. Dream’s in the shower. I’ll let him know.”

Sapnap’s eyes went wide as soon as the words left George’s mouth. The door was closed and he was left with screams and loud chatter from the now much larger group of people standing in front of him. All of them were trying to rush forward but he put his hands out to stop them.

They easily could have overrun him but at the least they respected him to stop. All of them doe eyeing him and yelling questions over each other. He heard some very lewd comments about figuring out where the bathroom was in the house. Others about what Dream may look like. He’d tease Dream for it later but right now he was just worried about what could actually happen.

“I’m going to marry Dream one day just you wait.”

That got a response from him.

“You want to marry Dream? You don’t have a chance.”

Was it harsh? Maybe. But he didn’t really care. Not when it was this early in the morning, he hadn’t had breakfast, and he was stuck listening to a group of people simp for his best friend when they didn’t even really know him.

The crowd rushed up in screams and shouts and Sapnap felt a smirk grow on his face when he realized this kept all the attention on him rather than figuring out the layout of the house.

“I mean, good luck. You can try. But he’s already mine.”

Yells of DNF is dead and Dreamnap forever filled the crowd. People had their phones out to record him and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t starting to enjoy this now that he had a plan. Being protective of Dream was something he was good at. Jokes about him being the number one Dream defender brought back to the front of his mind. It even carried a bit into the lore on their own server. The storyline for his character carrying through how he went from behind Dream’s right hand to swearing to kill him. No one saw them throwing wrappers back and forth after the streams ended. They didn’t see them eating pizza and laughing with each other. He’d made jokes before about Dream being his sugar daddy and his house wife. What was a little more pandering in the grand scheme of things?

“Sorry to break the news to you all like this.” He wasn’t. It wasn’t real news. They knew it too from the looks on their faces. A fan of one of them was a fan to all of them. That was the standard they’d made after all. “DNF was just a cover. Can’t let my baby go now can I?”

He remembered during the lore that he’d called Dream his baby. How the fans had gone ballistic when he talked about nothing ruining his baby’s wedding. But, Dream was his baby boy. Even though he had his jealousy arc about Sapnap calling Punz that as well.

He was about to keep going when the door opened again. He was going to kill George for leaving him alone with this but when he turned to yell at him he stopped dead in his tracks. Dream, hair wet and sticking at angles around the mask, sleeveless turtleneck and fingerless gloves, running boots and cargo pants was what greeted him. Sapnap just couldn’t win could he. All that simp talk about Dream and the man shows up at the door in a top that showed off all of his muscle.

“Dream.”

Sapnap didn’t care that he’d practically whined the name. He could only handle so much damage control and Dream was an idiot.

“George said you needed help?”

He could tell from how Dream was looking around the door-frame that he was eyeing up the crowd. A short laugh coming up before he wheezed. Small, not his full lungs. But a wheeze nonetheless and the fans most certainly heard it.

“They want to marry you. I told them our secret.”

Dream paused for less than a second. Shifting so the door was open wide enough for him to stand comfortably in the frame.

“Our secret?”

It didn’t take a genius to know he was raising an eyebrow under the mask.

“That DNF was a cover and you’re actually mine.”

Another snort and Dream was shaking his head fondly.

“Oh my god you’re such an idiot.”

George poked his head around the door again. He watched for a second before pushing Dream further out until all three of them were on the step with the door shut behind them. Dream took the lead instantly. Stepping forward and saying hi to all of them and offering a massive group picture.

They could see some of the other players laughing at them as they walked by. Calls asking if they were suffering from success echoing across the distance. Tommy and Tubbo saw them and waved before making a run for it so they didn’t get swarmed.

With Dream handling things the fans got their pictures and moved along. All three of them sighing before heading back inside to gather the last of their things before heading to practice.

“You struggled out there?”

The tone made Sapnap throw his arms in the air and turn. Facing off against the gentle giant that was Dream. Well, gentle until you fought against him. Then he was one of the most lethal people to exist.

“I didn’t expect it!”

“You’re an idiot.”

George wouldn’t have handled it any better and Sapnap did not hesitate to throw that right in his face. Dream watched the two of them bicker for a while before getting started on breakfast. It was going to be a long day of training if this energy kept up. They were going to need a good one. Especially if more fans were at their door when they got back. He’d have to speak to Scott about higher security out here.

Until then. He had a meal to eat and a competition to win.

Notes:

I just thought it would be funny okay? Look me in the eyes and tell me Sapnap wouldn't do this. Or that George wouldn't leave him out there. Or that Dream wouldn't just walk out like that. Come on.
Let me know what you all thought! I love all of you and I hope you have a fantastic day/night! <3
