When it's Just The Two of Us

Summary:

A study session goes on longer than usual, leaving Katsuki too tired to walk back to his own room. It's alright though, because he's with his boyfriend, Izuku, so he can just sleep in his bed tonight.

Work Text:

"You were close. The line is 3x - y + 25 = 0. You just forgot to change the signs." Katsuki yawned, pointing down at the copybook in front of him.

He stretched half-heartedly, another longer yawn drawing itself from his throat, scrunching the skin around his eyes from behind the slim black frame of his glasses.

They suited him.

The thought wriggled its way through Izuku's tired brain, taking priority over checking for mistakes on his current question and listening to Katsuki's advice. Not that he was complaining, the thought of Kacchan wearing his glasses always sent butterflies through his stomach, fluttering around and tickling him from the inside.

He hummed, a soft thing, though it was prominent in the silence of the room, only just floating above the noise of their breathing and filling the room with its sound.

Katsuki shuffled closer to him, leaving Izuku to giggle as the blonde's chair began to roll away from him rather than towards him.

"Shut up, nerd." He mumbled teasingly, pushing himself up against Izuku's side and letting his head fall into the crook of his neck.

"Oh, I'm the nerd?" Izuku asked incredulously, though the foggy haze that had settled over his mind turned his words to mush, slurring them in places and making them generally incoherent.

Katsuki nodded into his arm from where he was sat, clinging onto the appendage through the soft All Might hoodie Izuku had gotten him for his birthday. The colours were faded from overwearing it, the bright yellows and bold blues having long since melted away to reveal soft and warm pastels.

"How about you, Mr. 'I go to bed at 8pm'," Izuku asked, laying his head on top of Katsuki's and relishing in the heat the other provided. "Why am I the nerd, hmm?"

"Cos you're studying" Katsuki's words were muffled from where his face was pressed against Izuku's own hoodie, a limited edition — and not currently for sale — DynaMight hoodie.

Izuku laughed, sending vibrations through Katsuki's body and up through his head where they met Izuku again. His mind noted that they'd made a circuit, a cohesive unit of never-ending codependency and using one another as they needed, but it was far back in his mind, something for a more alert Izuku to worry about.

"I'm only studying this late 'cause someone," He tickled at Katsuki's stomach, small feather-light touches of his fingers over clothed skin, managing to draw a giggle from the other. "Decided that they wanted to cuddle instead of revising for our test on Monday."

"That was you–" Katsuki began, but Izuku was quick to shut him down.

"Nope," He grinned into Katsuki's hair, something more cunning than his usual smiles, reminiscent of those he used in battle when he finally figured out a way to win. "It was Kacchan's fault."

The blonde shook his head, only managing to nuzzle further into Izuku's neck as he did so, the brush of Katsuki's hair against his jaw like the soft drag of gentle fingers across his skin. The sensation had him smiling wider.

"No?," He said, turning to look at the blonde now. "Y'know, it's not very nice to lie Kacchan. And liars need to learn from their mistakes..."

Izuku brought his arms round the other's waist, wrapping them tightly around his middle. Some might call such a gesture cute, loving even, but the two of them knew otherwise, because with Izuku's hands around him, it left Katsuki's stomach open to–

"With tickles!"

Izuku attacked his stomach, hands flying around the other's hips and letting his fingers fly. They danced across his clothed abdomen, poking and prodding at the skin that lay beneath. Meanwhile, Izuku was relishing in the twist and turns and half-giggles that the touches drew from Katsuki. Eventually he devolved into full blown laughter, cackling ringing out through the room and probably the entire dorm at this point.

"Stop!" Katsuki got out through a fit of giggles, wheezing through the words that cane fork his mouth "We're gonna wa-AKE everyone uP!" He devolved into another cackling fit, his whole frame shaking as he gasped for air.

Izuku's eyes travelled away from him and to the alarm clock on his night stand. Bright red lines stood out starkly in the dark of the room, only the small lamp sitting on his desk lighting the room. They cast shadows behind them along the wall, and he could see Katsuki's silhouette still shaking, could hear his wheezing gasps of laughter as he tried to regain his breath.

He moved his gaze back to the alarm clock, absently filling in the details lost to the dark. The two prongs of All Might's hair weren't visible, and yet he could still see where the bright yellow V stuck out from the similarly coloured alarm clock.

His eyes roamed again, finishing in its guessing game of filling in the details and landing back on the bright red lights. The light that showed the time. The time, which was–

"2am!" Izuku hissed, whipping back around to Katsuki about to ask how they'd somehow lost track of the time but…

But the other boy was asleep.

He was slumped in his chair, head hung limply over the back with his mouth wide open. His chest expanded softly as he breathed in, the soft intake of air audible in the now quiet room. And Izuku, definitely not for the first time, marvelled at Katsuki's appearance. Even in sleep the blonde was adorable. His face had relaxed completely, lines of tension and anger slipping away to unveil something so relaxed and Not-Katsuki.

No matter how many times he saw it, he still got whiplash sometimes. And who could blame him? Katsuki was beautiful, not like a star in the night sky, or a precious painting in an art gallery, but like a feral alley cat that used to hate you but now snuggles against your legs when it sees you. He was like a blacksmith in some fantasy world, putting care and effort into all that he made, ensuring it was crafted to perfection. Now maybe Izuku wasn't exactly the person to ask about such a topic, but he'd always thought that Katsuki's beauty was less perfect and romantic than it was rough and uneven. He liked to think of himself in the same way, that their ruffled edges slotted into one another to make them whole.

Izuku slowly pried the black glasses off his nose, leaving them on the desk in front of him before hooking his arms around Katsuki and lifting upwards. The other boy hung limply from his arms, one of Izuku's hands on his thigh, the other in his soft blonde hair.

He moved then slowly, pushing the chairs under the desk with his feet and setting Katsuki over to the bed where he set him down tenderly. Instantly the blonde was snuggling deep into the duvet, clinging onto the pillows and nuzzling deeper into the soft bed.

Izuku smiled at the blonde, moving away for just a moment to flick the switch on the lamp, but he found himself unable to get up.

He turned around, catching sight of a pale hand fisted in his hoodie. A small smile grew on his face at Katsuki's antics. Moving a little further away drew a little pout from the boy, his eyes parted in an adorably angry squint.

"C'me back t' bed 'zuku." He slurred and Izuku had to stop himself from laughing at the angry voice he was obviously trying and failing to put on.

"I'm just turning off the light Kacchan." Izuku whispered back.

But it seems Katsuki wasn't satisfied with that, gripping his hoodie tighter than before, the lines in his face growing ever so slightly deeper.

"No. Sleep." He groaned, the words a little more coherent this time.

Izuku leaned down to Katsuki, pulling the soft hairs away from his forehead and placing a soft kiss against the skin. The other boy's grip dropped completely at the touch, a soft, content smile gracing his lips, one he only let out when it was just the two of them.

He powered up One for All, sending out a small tendril of Blackwhip to wrap around the desk lamp and turn it off. It did, thankfully, though it took a moment to feel for the switch when he couldn't actually sense anything with his quirk, relying only on his sight. But he dealt with it quickly and was soon climbing into bed, rolling Katsuki over so he could slip in on the edge.

Izuku wrapped his arms around the other boy, dragging the covers over themselves and shuffling closer until they were safely cuddled up together, warm and secure.

And there, with Katsuki softly breathing in his arms, he fell asleep.
