Work Text:
Louis is trying to figure out how he found himself in this situation, but it’s not like he can think very clearly with his body and mind this tired; eyes still slightly glossed over and lips parted to take in short puffs of breath. Well, actually , Louis may know how he ended up here, but he refuses to acknowledge how he is literally just out of his heat and, still, is seated in a closed-off corner towards the front of the class among other alpha, omega and beta classmates.
He knows he shouldn’t be here, at least not right after his heat ended — because his mind is not yet cleared out, the last bits of the heat dullness still ran through his blood and, let's not forget, his mind and body are still vulnerable after heat — but he couldn’t follow his alpha’s scent, even tho he needed it the most.
Louis leans over Niall, who's sitting beside him, rubbing his thighs softly to calm down, and rests his head on his shoulder to breathe in his omega scent to soothe himself a bit.
Now, you see, Louis is a bright student, but today his hands are shaking, unable to grip the pen properly or concentrate on whatever the teacher is saying — and that was the reason he decided to wear a big black hoodie: to avoid getting the teacher’s attention.
He feels absolutely restless and needs his alpha, right fucking now . He wants to be comforted — in his bed, sleeping, relaxing, with his alpha. Being extremely exhausted from his heat, his eyes started to get wet with tiredness, and he struggles to keep them open, having to frequently wipe them.
Louis slowly turns around to look for his alpha in the big classroom, and finds him quick enough — sitting in the last row, wearing an outfit much similar to Louis, with his best mate, Liam. Louis whines low into Niall’s shoulder when said alpha, unlike any other time, did not turn to look at him instantly, but, instead, kept looking ahead at the teacher and the board.
Louis and Harry had been bonded for the last four years, and mated for the last two. Now, at twenty-two, they find themselves sitting in the same lecture hall, yearning for each other and still not doing anything about it.
Louis sniffles into Niall’s shoulder and turns his head back around, slouching in his chair with a big sad pout. He bites the eraser at the end of his pencil, recalling the events of last evening.
Flashback start
Harry was sleeping peacefully in the large, comfortable nest that they had made on their bed — one in which Louis had rubbed himself excessively after Harry was done scenting it.
Louis’ heat was approaching its end and they both were exhausted completely. Harry had drifted into sleep as soon as they were done changing the sheets and he had showered them both clean, hitting the bed and snoring as he cuddled Louis.
Louis was not feeling sleepy enough for some reason, and he was very hungry, so he decided to order some food.
The food had arrived about fifteen minutes later, but Louis was not in the same state now as he was before; his mind had gone back into slight heat fuzziness, making it difficult for him to think clearly, so, without registering much, he found himself standing at the door of their apartment, wearing nothing but a loose translucent shirt that reached his mid-thighs and short black shorts underneath — which weren’t even visible below the shirt, opening the door for an alpha delivery man.
The delivery man stilled as soon as the door opened and he saw Louis and smelled his heat clearly — but Louis was unphased about it, didn’t even realise what was happening and how it was wrong, and just shut the door in the alpha’s face. He didn't realise that, now, he had a bit of his scent on him.
Louis turned slowly, feeling much tired now, and squeaked in surprise when he found Harry standing there in just pyjama pants; arms crossed on his chest, breathing fast, and eyes a dark colour instead of the usual emerald green.
Louis smiled at him and stepped closer, putting the food on the counter and turning to hug him, but stopped immediately when Harry’s large hand rested on his neck, gently holding him away, subtly pressing his thumb in their mating mark.
“What were you doing, Louis?” Harry asked in a low alpha tone, baring his teeth “You- you— why did you leave the nest and opened the door to an alpha? A fucking alpha, Louis! Our apartment reeks of your heat!”
Louis whined at Harry’s dangerous angry tone “I- I was hungry,” he pouted.
Harry sighed in his face, pulling him close, lifting his feet from the ground until he was completely wrapped against Harry’s body.
Harry scented him strongly, a strength that made Louis moan out loud and clutch Harry hard, body falling lax against his.
“You couldn’t have woken me up, huh? Couldn’t have asked your alpha? Tell me, petal.” Harry asked in a soft, yet stern voice.
Louis whined louder, feeling sad about disappointing his alpha, breathing hard as a tear ran down his face “Didn’t want to bother you, you were finally sleeping well,” he wailed out.
Harry didn’t console him with any more words, just laid him down in their nest, holding him close until he fell asleep and then covering him in a long fur blanket and one of his shirts.
Flashback ends
And then, next thing Louis knew after he woke up, Harry was gone. There were some leftovers on the kitchen counter with a note telling him that his alpha was going to stay over at Liam’s that night and sternly telling Louis not to step out of their apartment.
And it didn’t take a genius to figure that Harry was pissed at him.
But, oh well, Louis didn’t follow what the note said, just drowned himself in scent-neutralizers and set out for the lecture Harry was attending, because he felt anxious over the fact that he was pissed at him.
But, now, Louis sort of regretted it, because he was feeling extremely uncomfortable and cold in the chilled classroom.
“Louis, could you answer this question?” His teacher, Mr. Braun, called out.
Oh, fuck.
Louis slowly rises from his seat and stands on wobbly legs, resting his weight on the table as he tries to see the question he was referring to, squinting hard at the board.
His nails slowly scratched at the wooden table as he blinks repeatedly, trying to read the question over and over again, but unable to solve it. His hands started to shake slightly as he grew uncomfortable “I- I can’t, sir, I am sorry.” Louis gasps out low.
“It’s okay-“
“Sir, can I use the restroom, please?” Louis interrupted, bolting out of the classroom without waiting another second as soon as the teacher nodded.
After breathing in and out multiple times to relax, Louis peeks out into the hallway, low-key hoping that his alpha followed him — but pouts sadly when he finds the hallway as empty as if deserted.
Louis returns back to the class and moves to his desk slowly with his head held low, trying to avoid any unwanted eye contact or conversation, hoping his teacher wouldn’t mention nor notice.
Luckily, the following half an hour went better. At least he could suppress the urge to cry.
Louis hangs his head and hides his face in his arms, which were folded on top of the table.
…..
Louis jerks as soon as the bell rings — they had a ten-minute break before another short, thirty-minute session — so he quickly looks up to search for Harry. On most days, they would go out and grab a quick coffee or, if Louis was sick, Harry would get him a snack and something else. But, today, Louis is left whining sadly when Harry just walks past him, ignoring the omega.
Louis sits back in the previous position and sobs pitifully for a few minutes, before Niall slides back beside him, rubbing a hand along his back to calm him.
“Lou, I got you something warm, have it.” Niall offers softly and Louis sighs softly when he sees a cup of coffee and a piece of warm chocolate brownie.
He thanks the omega and chuckles sadly when he is offered a tissue to wipe his tears and blow his nose.
And, even tho the coffee lasted for a while running down his throat soothingly, warming his insides — Louis missed the way a small "Harry" was scribbled on the discarded lid of the coffee cup and the way Harry gave him soft eyes on his way back to his seat.
…..
HARRY
Harry stands outside the classroom once the lecture finishes with a few of his alpha friends, pretending like he did not care, but his head and heart were burning with anxiety to see Louis again — to make sure he is fine, waiting for him to come out.
A part of Harry knows he is being unreasonable — what happened last night was a mistake and, instead of being angry at his omega, he should be comforting him —, but it also hurt Harry a lot when Louis stepped out of their nest without informing him and brought an unknown alpha scent into their comfortable, homely aura, especially while his heat was still om-going.
However, over the span of the last three hours, the anger had turned into deep concern as he saw his mate sitting in class, struggling to go through the long lecture. So he decided that enough was enough, and he would comfort Louis — tell him they are fine and hold him close until they reeked of each other.
Harry quickly turns around when he hears a little call of his name, seeing Louis standing there; head held low, looking exhausted, with an extremely heartbreaking expression on his face, scratching his nails against his palm — something he did when he was feeling unsure, scared or nervous
“I- I am sorry, Harry, I- I really am. I d-didn’t mean to do it,” Louis stutters, starting to sob into his hands. It didn’t take Harry another second to pick his omega up in his arms and slide his bag off and onto his own shoulder.
Their friends, understanding that they needed privacy, quickly left them alone — and Harry was thankful for that.
He slides down against the wall onto the floor with Louis still sobbing in his arms.
“Sorry- ah- sorry, Harry. Please, don’t be angry anymore,” he gasps.
“Sh- sh, petal, it’s fine — you are fine. Calm down, please, calm down for your alpha. I am not angry, it’s alright.” Harry speaks in a soft tone and scents Louis strongly, making Louis settle in his arms and mouth at his neck softly.
Harry slowly gets up from the floor, making Louis flinch, thinking he would drop him down, but the alpha only rushs to soothe him as he quickly walks them to their car with Louis still in his arms. He drives away to their house as the omega falls asleep in his seat — exhausted from everything that happened over the last twenty-four hours and from so much crying.
…..
Harry has his head perched on one hand while his other rubs small circles on the cheek of his mate, who's sleeping peacefully, unbothered by the sun peeking through the windows.
Harry had felt extremely guilty for ignoring Louis, and apologised to him as soon as he was up last evening — bathing him with love, hand-feeding him his favourite meal and Harry’s handmade chocolate chip cookies. They had snuggled together at night in the freshly laid out nest, which was scented strongly by Harry, both apologising to each other continuously before he kissed Louis hard and said he would rather spend their time being there for each other and washing their exhaustion away than continue arguing.
“Haz,” Louis gently interrupts Harry’s thoughts and kisses the inside of his palm.
Harry leans down to peck Louis softly and scent him, which makes him breathe out satisfied and relaxed, clearing off any more sleepiness.
“Good morning, my love.” Harry speaks lowly between kissing Louis.
“Mm, morning, Haz. What are we gonna do today?” Louis asks, blinking soft, bright blue eyes up at Harry.
Harry taps his chin twice, thinking. “What about lay in bed all day?”
Louis snickers at that and snuggles closer to Harry, as if that was even possible ”mm, that sounds good,” he says, letting out a small, happy sigh as Harry’s chin rests on his head.
