ROSE AS ROXY’S MOTHER
I don’t know if I’m digging the characterization entirely, like the dialogue tracks and the cats are wonderful but something in the construction of this AU feels hollow and unlived in. Like MomLonde got ported in from the land of conveniences, of course there’s wizards and cats and drinking and Kanaya and snark, what else is left?! It doesn’t feel *Rose* enough, or frankly even like a fully realized person. Rose isn’t literally her mother you know. And the point of The Game was to make you grow and change and discover yourself, even if the Double Death of the Author / taking control of the narrative / retcon bullshit meant that The Game ended unfinished, with the idea of making your own way. Forging a path unknown.
I do admire this take on the parenting aspect of Homestuck, I feel like it’s underutilized. The Lalondes have parenting issues out the wazoo, all of the Beta kids do. Where’s the parenting fics, I wonder! Where’s Casey in a story that’s actually central to the /idea/ of Casey instead of the plot device she could be! Where is Dirk actually getting raised by the man he idolized? Roxy meeting her Momlonde? Ughhhh MORE MORE MORE MORE!!
I’m sounding like the most ungrateful brat as I save this story. I’m sorry I did like it an adequate amount. Roxy is more than a port of Rose and I’m not sure I agree with how she’s written here, but the *ideas* this spawn and the joy of what you’ve given me even as I rant and rave with them, it’s really been quite fun. Thanks!
