Chapter Text

It’s been five years since Izuku started work as an underground hero under Aizawa Shouta’s guidance. Five years, evidently, is a long time to his mother. Come April she becomes determined to host an anniversary dinner with everyone he’s ever introduced her to invited. Reo is excited by the idea, but Izuku expects he’s more amused by the fact that Izuku is opposed to it than anything else.

Izuku, however, is tired. He’d taken off the night before in preparation for today’s dinner, but yesterday had seen an unusual spike in criminal activity that had him accepting a request for a five-hour patrol starting just past midnight. Shinsou, he knows, had suffered a similar fate. His mother, however, had been waiting for the day for the past three weeks and was already at the private room she’d pre-booked at Izuku’s favorite restaurant.

“Shinsou said he’s already on the way and my mom said she’s picking both my uncle and Sansa up on the way over.”

“Shinsou said he’d pay for a bottle of sake right?”

Reo huffs a laugh. “That tired huh?”

Izuku only sighs.

Reo taps his finger against the steering wheel. “Knowing Inko she might try to keep us for a few hours, but I can make up an excuse for us to leave early after dinner.”

Izuku’s smile is tired but grateful. “Thanks.”

It’s nice to have dinner with everyone for once, but Izuku’s had a headache since they placed drink orders. There’s only seven of them, but once they’d broken out the sake to celebrate, the noise had gotten to be a bit too much. He’s ready to signal to Reo that it’s time to leave when there’s a knock at the door.

Beside him, Inko’s smile widens and in walks Midoriya Izuku’s headache nightmare.

Hizashi Yamada is the first to come through the door followed closely by Oboro and Aizawa.

HEYYYYY EVERYBODY!

Oboro smiles, holding up a new bottle of sake. “Sorry we’re late.”

Mic reaches Izuku first, wrapping an arm around him and pulling him into a side hug. “We had to drag Shouta out of bed to get here, hope you don’t mind that we skipped the dinner part.”

Izuku, despite how subpar he feels right now, is happy to see the three of them. He runs into Aizawa and Mic occasionally during patrols, and he and Oboro keep in periodical touch online, but it’s been a long time since he’s seen all of them together in one place. His smile is genuine. “Not at all. I’m glad to see you guys.”

Aizawa appears behind them. “Congrats on five years, problem child.”

Izuku chuckles, “Couldn’t’ve done it without you.”

Oboro eyes him carefully. “Are you getting enough sleep? You look tired.”

“Got caught up in a late patrol last night is all. Now, I see you brought sake?”

Izuku admittedly, probably drank too much. In his defense though, he’d had a hard patrol the night before and he wasn’t the only one to drink too much. Misaki had taken Inko home for the night thirty minutes before, his mother getting just a bit too tipsy to get home by herself. And Reo had suggested they leave with them, but by then Izuku was already decently buzzed and he was anything but a tired drunk. Half an hour after the two women had left and he’s already lost count of how many drinks he’s had.

“Okay, name your worst injury, go,” Shinsou states, using his arm like a starting flag.

They each take turns answering, Sansa goes first, chuckling over the rim of his glass. “I fell out of a tree as a kid and broke my arm.”

Naomasa pinches at the bridge of his nose. “I was shot once.”

Reo chokes on his drink. “You were what.”

“You were still just a kid. You were always worried about me being at work so your mom lied and told you I got my appendix removed.”

Reo leans back in his seat in disbelief. Izuku laughs at the look on his face.

“Well what about you?” Shinsou asks Izuku, raising a brow in amusement.

Izuku frowns in a look of intense concentration. He hums, trying to think past the fog of alcohol. “Nomu,” he finally answers, perking back up, “Nothing has ever hurt as bad as getting punched by a nomu,” Izuku laughs, his face flushed red with alcohol.

Aizawa raises a brow at him from across the table. “When did you get punched by a nomu?”

Beside him Reo stiffens. He goes to stop him, but Izuku’s mouth is faster.

“At the USJ, don’t you remember?” Izuku asks, draping his top half over the table to look at the hero. “You were pretty out of it already though, so it makes sense if you don’t,” Izuku sighs tiredly, “You were suuuuper heavy, you know.”

“But how were you–?”

Reo laughs nervously. “Izuku, don’t you think it’s time to go home? You’re pretty out of it.”

Izuku gapes at him. “Don’t tell me you don’t remember either. You don’t have an excuse! You were so mad at me for the longest time after that!” Izuku cries.

“Kid,” Aizawa tries, “You weren’t at the USJ. You weren’t part of my class then.”

The room goes quiet as Reo tries to get Izuku to stand, doing his best to get him out of there before he says anything else incriminating.

A glass shatters.

All heads turn towards Naomasa. “Piper?”

Izuku blinks at the man, realizing his mistake. As drunk as he is he does his best to sober himself, letting Reo drag him up. He straightens himself, still very obviously drunk. “No?” It’s more of a question than an answer.

It’s also a lie.

Naomasa stands abruptly, chair screeching against the floor.

Izuku glances between the detective and the window on the other side of the room.

Reo gently takes hold of his arm as if to stop him, but Izuku ignores it, making a mad dash for the window. He feints left when Shinsou stands to try and block his path and just barely dodges around his right side.

“Shit!”

“Get him!”

He’s managed to throw open the window and get halfway out of it by the time he feels something wrap around his ankle, dragging him back inside. He falls hard on his ass as another strand of Aizawa’s capture weapon ties his ankles together.

Izuku looks up at everyone like a drunk deer caught in headlights. “Ahahah,” he tries, “slash j?”

Reo sighs, sitting calmly back down in his seat. He reaches across the table for what remains of the sake bottle Oboro had brought and pours himself his first and last glass of the night.

It seems they’d be there for a while longer.
