Work Text:
You’re lying in bed, rewatching your favorite TV show on the phone while the rest of your housemates are sleeping. It’s been a long day.
A notification appears.
“You’re awake?” the message says.
Your heart skips a beat, seeing Diluc’s name on the screen. You should’ve appeared offline. You bite your lip, not wanting to reply, but you send him a message anyway.
The phone rings and you drop your phone on your face. You groan in pain.
“Why are you still awake?” Diluc asks you from the other line. From his stern tone, you can already see him cocking a brow and crossing his arms.
“But you’re awake too,” you reply. You grab some tissue and blow your nose before realizing that was a mistake.
“Y/n?” he asks and you hitch your breath. “Are you okay?”
“Oh. Um…” You clear your throat. “Yeah, I’m alright.”
It’s quiet on the other line and you fiddle with the threads on your blanket.
“You had your interview today,” he states.
He remembered.
“Yeah…”
You did horrible on it. It was for your dream job and Diluc even helped you with your resume. All that work went down the drain when you blanked on every other question they asked you. Your mind repeated all the answers you could’ve and should’ve said, so you couldn’t sleep even if you wanted to.
You sigh, now lying on your side, not wanting to think about it. “What about you? Why are you awake?”
“I just finished a paper due tomorrow.”
“Oh,” you reply, and there’s rustling on the other side. You hear him yawn. “Well good night then. You should get some–”
“McDonald’s is open,” he says. You’re breathless at his sudden suggestion. “Wanna go get some chicken nuggets?”
Your mouth grows wide. Did you really sound that miserable?
“It’s 3 in the morning,” you tell him. You don’t want him to see you like this.
“And?”
But this is Diluc you’re talking to. Diluc who grumbles when Kaeya attempts to sign him up for a sports team. Diluc who grumbles when Venti tries to drag him out to the fresh outdoors. Diluc who grumbles when Jean and Amber ask to use his place to host a birthday party.
Yet he’s here, offering to go out with you at three in the morning.
With butterflies in your stomach and a smile tugging on your lips, you get off of your bed.
“Let’s go.”
