This is Just to Say

Summary:

Clint, Bucky, Eddie, and Venom always have something or other going on, and when they can't be together they leave each other notes on the kitchen counter.

Notes:

I was so so so excited when I read this prompt!! Because "This is Just to Say" by William Carlos Williams is one of my very favorite poems, and it's always fun to write something based on something I love. I hope you enjoy this even a tiny fraction of how much I love the original!

Love, Lira 🏹

p.s. Vex – thanks so much for building this tiny raft with me! I think maybe it's grown into a rowboat, with room for a few others... *giggle*

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Buck–
if you get back
early
we’ll be at the bar–
the one where
we met.
You remember.
That night
you
got all
flirty.
–CB

Barton–
Got called out
again.
Steve says
just overnight,
but don’t
hold
your
breath.
Don’t worry,
I have Natalia with me,
I’m safe.
–Bucky
P.S. Don’t let Venom eat
all my m&ms.
P.P.S. I’m never flirty.
Must have been
you.

Sorry Bucky.
Vee found your
chocolate
stash
before we
saw the note.
He says they were
delicious.
–Eddie

Yes I said
delicious.
But not enough.
Pick up more
please.
–Venom

Buck–
I was there.
Your flirting
will live
in my brain
for eternity.
–CB

Yeah,
what he said.
–Eddie

You were
adorable.
–Venom

Clint–
Got an early
morning
call
about a story.
Lunch later?
–Eddie

Clint–
Coffee’s ready.
Just push start.
–Venom

Eddie & Vee–
Sorry
I missed
you.
Katie-Kate called,
had to go get
Lucky.
(maybe I’ll get
“lucky”
again later? ;)
–CB
P.S. Thanks
for the coffee
Vee. You saved
my life.

Clint,
You really
have to
ask?
–Venom

Venom,
You really
have to
waste paper
for that?
–Eddie

Buck–
We tried
waiting up,
but we’re all
falling
asleep.
Wake us
when you get
home?
–your boys

You’re all
asleep,
all I can hear
is breathing
and heartbeats.
Soon I’ll slip
between
you,
and then I’ll
truly be
home,
but for now
it’s me
and the soft glow
of the kitchen nightlight–
a good time to say
I love you.
All three
of you.
