When Morning Comes

Summary:

“So,” Lu Guang starts quietly, still rubbing Cheng Xiaoshi’s side in a sickeningly-loving manner, “have you ever been with a man before?”

Work Text:

It’s peaceful as the light of the morning sun spills into the room, illuminating Cheng Xiaoshi in the most ethereal way, with his hair wild and splayed across their shared pillow. Lu Guang is languidly running a hand up and down Xiaoshi’s arm, who rests with his back against his boyfriend’s chest.

It’s comfortable and warm. It’s perfect.

“So,” Lu Guang starts quietly, still rubbing Cheng Xiaoshi’s side in a sickeningly-loving manner, “have you ever been with a man before?”

He can’t clearly see his face, but he knows Cheng Xiaoshi is raising an eyebrow when he sarcastically asks, “Are you not a man?”

“That’s not what I meant and you know it,” Lu Guang grumbles, and if he’s pouting, he will deny it until his last breath. “Before last night.”

Cheng Xiaoshi hums. The serene silence returns for a few lovely moments before he abruptly shatters it.

“Nope!” he exclaims with all the tact of a newborn baby.

“ What? ” Lu Guang nearly falls off the bed. “Cheng Xiaoshi, tell me you’re joking.”

His partner tuts. “Aiya, don’t make it a big deal.”

“What about, I mean, you must’ve at least—“

“Touched myself ‘there’?” Xiaoshi understands immediately. “I mean, once or twice…”

“ Cheng Xiaoshi ,” Lu Guang repeats in disbelief, squeezing his shoulder as he sighs. “Why didn’t you tell me? I could’ve seriously hurt you.”

“But you didn’t,” Cheng Xiaoshi dismisses. He wiggles so that even more of their skin is touching, Lu Guang’s chest to the expanse of his back. He sighs contentedly once he resettles. “Besides, I liked it. If it hurt, I would’ve told you.”

Lu Guang scoffs in what Xiaoshi dubs ‘the Lu Guang way’, which means it’s really just an irritated huff. “I would’ve preferred if you were honest from the start. Next time, make sure you tell me. It doesn’t have to be about…” he trails off pointedly before clearing his throat. “Anything you’re inexperienced with. Tell me, so that I can help you.”

Cheng Xiaoshi makes a cute little noise between a whine and a groan, “You’ll just make fun of me.” He glances away, turning his head towards the pillows as he mumbles, “Honestly, I was… I was embarrassed, okay?”

“Xiaoshi,” Lu Guang whispers affectionately, a fuzzy warmth blooming in his chest at the flustered look on his boyfriend’s face. “I won’t make fun of you. You don’t have to be embarrassed about anything. Not with me.”

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll remember that next time Qiao Ling pulls some shit to humiliate me, and you don’t immediately take my side,” Xiaoshi scoffs, crossing his arms as best as he can while laying on his side. He closes his eyes and tilts his chin up in a show of defiance.

Cute. Lu Guang can’t stop the wide smile that spreads across his face. Too cute.

After a moment or two of no response, Cheng Xiaoshi cracks an eye open to search for Lu Guang’s expression. He must be surprised by what he sees, because then he’s staring, mouth open.

“What is it?” Lu Guang still can’t wipe the stupid  look off his face. He’s too happy right now.

“You’re grinning, ” Cheng Xiaoshi says in astonishment. He blinks a few times, wide eyed, before rolling over in Lu Guang’s arms. Lu Guang easily accommodates the position change as Xiaoshi brings his hands up to the younger boy’s face, thumbs brushing the corners of his mouth.

“Do you have a problem with that?” Lu Guang manages to control himself enough to turn the grin into something calmer with his lips pressed together.

“No,” Xiaoshi says, his expression melting into something soft and fond. “It looks good on you. I love when you smile.”

Now it’s Lu Guang’s turn to be flustered. When Cheng Xiaoshi leans in, he’s expecting it, but his heart jumps into his throat all the same. He dips his head so that their lips meet in the middle, moving against one another in a familiar dance.

It’s gentle and quiet and sweet. As if they have all the time in the world. As if they have no worries today, nor will they tomorrow. As if this is how it was always meant to be.

Lu Guang wouldn’t have it any other way.
