The road wavered and twisted from the windshield and pouring streams of rain from above. Michael’s heart was beating loud in his chest as he drove through the storm, constantly checking the rear view mirror for nearby cars. He typically drove around a lot, stylishly picking Jeremy up for dates, and also driving the two of them to school every day. The flooding streets however made him feel uneasy, especially with Jeremy in the car with him. “Mike, are you sure you don’t want to just pull over?” Jeremy spoke slowly and calmly, trying his best to not appear as worried as he internally was. The two could barely see the sky, everything was blurred and mushy in their vision. Every color was drastically muted, the empty fields surrounding them giving the illusion they were hardly moving. “No, It’s fine, we’ll.. we’ll get there soon.” He risked peeling his right hand off the wheel, giving Jeremy’s hand a small squeeze before bringing the back of his hand to his lips, giving him a small peck. Jeremy only furrowed his brows, giving another worried glance to his boyfriend before looking onto the road again. “I love you and I’m so grateful you planned this trip.. But it’s not worth risking it in this rain. It’s more important that we enjoy our time together, and avoid risking things…” The car began to swerve, a wheel slipping on the soaked pavement. Michael quickly let go of Jeremy’s hand to turn the wheel desperately- attempting to avoid driving straight into a muddy ditch. He just barely recovered, and the car continued its wobbly way down the right side of the road. “I think this emphasizes my point..”
Michael sighed, nodding his head as he recollected himself. “Yeah- uh.. Yeah. Alright. I’ll try to find a safe place to stop.” his grip tightened around the steering wheel, his knuckles turning a noticeable white with his death grip on the poor thing. “Are you- are you alright?” he risked a glance at Jeremy, quickly returning his attention to the road again. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m more worried about you. Just try to breathe, and let’s look for a spot to rest” He gave Michael a reassuring smile, one which Michael hardly caught in the mirror. “God, it’s a shame I can’t kiss you right now” he blurted out, face immediately flushing a dark red. Jeremy laughed- a sound Michael always cherished. It sent butterflies straight to his stomach, his face breaking out in an uncontrollable grin. “More of a reason for you to try to pull over soon” Jeremy sang, and- Michael swore- he caught him /winking/, too. For the rest of the drive, the two remained quiet. Michael in deep concentration, and Jeremy attempting not to pry his attention from the road. Michael was noticeably fidgeting, Jeremy’s comment from before making his heart flutter.
Both boys let out a sigh of relief as an old amusement park came into view. Michael carefully turned into the parking lot, scanning the area for any sheltered areas they could borrow to wait out the storm. The parking lot led to a path that twisted and turned to a covered check-in area; he assumed where people would buy their tickets and enter. Beyond that was a rickety amusement park, sets of small ferris wheels and trains being some of the many contents. The thing that stood out to him the most however, was the covered picnic area between the amusement park entrance and parking lot. Tall brick walls held a roof over the little eating area, sitting 2 equally spaced picnic tables. “Jackpot” Michael muttered, switching the car to park and stopping the engine. Jeremy raised an eyebrow in response to his boyfriend’s mischievous grin, one which he had gotten to know very well. He knew just when Michael was up to something- he was never able to conceal his excitement. His curiosity only grew as Michael unbuckled, and began taking off his beloved bomber jacket, holding it idly in one arm. “I hope you’re okay with getting a little wet”
They could hardly contain their laughter as they ran together through the rain, Michael holding his jacket over their heads to the best of his ability, as they made a beeline towards the sheltered picnic tables. Despite Michael’s effort, fat drops of rain plummeted over them, soaking bits of clothing and hair. By now they had accepted that their shoes wouldn’t be saved.
They panted as they made it in- both staring at the other’s soaked hair and clothes, Michael’s bomber jacket turning from a mute red, to the color of a beat. Jeremy shook his hair out like a dog- flinging water drops all across Michael’s face and the previously dry concrete floor. Michael put an arm up to his face, attempting to shield himself as he continued to laugh. “What the hell!” He chuckled, tossing his dripping jacket at the other. Jeremy wobbled backwards, peeling his boyfriend’s drenched coat off of him only to chuck it back at the other. Michael accepted it, laying the jacket flat on one of the tables to dry, and taking a seat beside it. “God- I had been saving up for this, I totally had my mind set on a luxurious hotel, snobby fancy restaurants….” He cupped his face with his own hands, propping his head on the table. “Starting to think god has it out to get me” Jeremy only snickered, taking a seat beside him and leaning on his shoulder with a sigh. “Well, expect the unexpected, I guess.” he smiled, closing his eyes as Michael’s arm made its way around Jeremy's waist. “I guess you’re right.” Michael sighed, resting his head on the other’s contently. They sat quietly for a while, simply enjoying the embrace of one another, sinking into the other’s body heat. They were lucky it was nearing summer, though even with the heat, they both shivered occasionally. “When I catch a cold, I’m blaming you” Jeremy joked, pressing a finger to Michael’s cheek teasingly. “I mean, you had all right to wait in the car…” Michael replied with a laugh, pulling Jeremy closer with his arm. He slowly moved it up- from his hip, to his back, to the nape of his neck… Then he found his hand within his boyfriend's dripping hair, raking his fingers carefully through the blonde fringe. Jeremy melted into the touch, eyes shutting again in utter bliss. They were both grateful for times like this, where they could leave Utah behind. Leave their family issues and responsibilities all behind. Right now, in the pouring rain, this sheltered picnic area was their entire world. “I mean, if you did get sick.. I wouldn’t complain. It would give me an excuse to pamper you.. I’d make you all your favorite meals, get you the comfiest of blankets… keep you warm... I wouldn’t leave your side…” His voice drifted off as their faces got closer and closer, Jeremy’s hands slipping up his torso to cup his cheeks. “...maybe I’d even put up with your shitty movies” Michael chuckled, that same mischievous grin planted on his lips. “Oh hush you, my taste in movies is great!” Jeremy teasingly hit Mike’s torso, making him laugh even more. “Right, right, I lied. I’d love to watch your /not/ shitty movies with you” their foreheads were touching now, and it felt as though they were sharing every breath.
“You make it sound like you /want/ me to get sick..” Jeremy was grinning, his eyes creasing as he did so. Michael reached his free hand to cup Jeremy’s face, thumb brushing across his cheek tenderly. “I promise I don’t, though… I would enjoy taking care of you. I like making you feel loved, I’d do anything for that cute smile of yours” At this, Jeremy finally leaned in- their lips meeting passionately, kissing as if this was their first kiss ever. Kissing like there was no tomorrow. All that was important at the moment was /now/, and now felt so right. It felt as though the surrounding storm had ascended them to heaven.
The initial kiss was short and sweet, both boys getting addicted to the fuzzy feeling they were experiencing. They continued sharing small pecks, meanwhile their hands roamed into one another’s hair, and down their damp torsos. All Michael could do was melt into the feeling, his heart continuing to flatter till it was almost painful. He adored how Jeremy fingers lightly caressed his collarbones and down his torso, and how his cheeks fit so perfectly in each of his palms. Michael soon broke the chain of kisses to plant a careful peck on his forehead- soon decencing on down his nose and cheeks, then his chin. Jeremy’s flesh was bright red, whether from being flustered or the constant kissing, Michael wasn’t sure. He knew he probably looked the same, maybe even a brighter shade of red. “I love you.. “ Kiss. “I’m.. really glad that I could spend today with you.” Another kiss. “I’d rather no one else” Yet another. His shame was thrown out the window ages ago, muttering the first thing that came to his mind without any thought or hesitation. “I love you too” Jeremy replied between Michael’s shows of affection, caressing his torso and back in an attempt to return the bliss he was experiencing. Jeremy bit his bottom lip as a thought came to mind, deciding it was his turn now to do the same. He leaned forward, moving his hands up to hold Michael’s face still, as he gave him a small peck on the nose. He then kissed each of his cheeks, his forehead, his chin, the corners of his lips… he then paused, nibbling at his own lip as if reconsidering. His gaze lowered, and Michael followed his gaze in anticipation, unknowing of what was holding Jeremy back, or what he was planning.
Michael’s heart was threatening to pop out of his chest as Jeremy tenderly kissed his neck. It was slow, sweet, and caught Michael entirely off guard. He didn’t complain as Jeremy slowly began to sprinkle more and more over his neck and collarbones, each slightly more confident than the one before. This time Michael was the one in bliss, unsure what to do with his hands- which were now hovering in the air in complete astonishment. He slowly accepted the affection, brushing Jeremy’s hair back and twisting strands between his fingers. Everything about him was so pretty, he loved every inch of him. He wished this moment would never end.
He wished this storm painted heaven would go on forever.
