Work Text:

Virgil shoves his blue bracelet on his wrist before he leaves his room, zipping up his hoodie for warmth. For once, he's attempted to plan something to surprise Logan (with Roman's and Patton's help, of course). It's just a little picnic at the nearby park, but the weather's pretty nice, if a little cool, and it's probably the last free day that will be this nice outside in a while. He's wearing a skirt today, a purple plaid one that goes with his hoodie and swishes nicely around his knees.

"Are you ready?" He asks Logan, bouncing in excitement on his toes. Logan looks up and smiles, adjusting his tie.

"I am," he acknowledges. "No hints?"

"Not a single hint," Virgil confirms gleefully.

"I believe if he could blindfold you safely on the way there, he would," Patton says dryly.

"Probably," Virgil admits, still cheerful. "But we're walking, and I don't want you to fall or run into someone, so."

"How thoughtful," Logan says. Somehow, it doesn't sound sarcastic.

"You should have a wonderful time," Roman assures him, casually reaching over and brushing Virgil's hair out of his eyes for him. "We helped, so you know it's good."

"Exactly," Virgil says. He reaches out, grabbing Logan's hand. "Come on!"

Of course, he still has to grab something important from the dining room table, something that immediately gives it away. A picnic basket that Patton's thoughtfully put together, with Virgil's help. Virgil's vegetarian, so most of the options are vegetarian as well, but there are a few meat-containing items to tempt Logan's appetite.

"A picnic?" Logan asks in surprise. Virgil nods, suddenly shy. Logan smiles and delivers a kiss, straight to the corner of Virgil's mouth.

"I love it," Logan says sincerely. Virgil beams.

"I know the perfect spot in the park," Virgil says, as he tugs Logan out the door, basket in hand. "You'll love it."

"I'm sure I will," Logan says, his voice soft. "It's with you, is it not?" Virgil blushes.

"Yes," he says, shy again. "It's- it's with me."

"Then I shall love it," Logan states. "Thank you for planning this, Virgil."

Smiling, Virgil leads Logan into the sunshine, the warm press of his fingers against Virgil's a steady comfort. It's beautiful outside, the sky above a comforting blue, covered in wisps of cotton candy clouds. The walk to the park is a quiet one, but not unwelcome silence. Virgil swings Logan's hand and Logan ends up taking the picnic basket after a few blocks, despite Virgil's hushed protests.

"You planned this whole thing, the least I can do is carry the picnic basket," Logan says, and that's that. How can Virgil argue with such a sweet sentiment?

They set up at a picnic table in the park, Virgil spreading a gingham blanket over the table because at least then, it's closer to the picnics he's always imagined growing up. Logan peppers his face with kisses as he unpacks the basket, helping him and murmuring sweet endearments into his ear at the same time. It's lovely and exactly like he pictured today to be.

"I'm so happy," he says simply, as he sits down next to Logan and rests his head on his boyfriend's shoulder. Logan's arm comes around him, squeezing gently.

"So am I," Logan says, quiet. "So am I."
