Work Text:

During the interview with Gerard and Bruno, Guy suddenly felt a sudden core-deep abhorrence and hatred swelling within him. All the things Gerard did and everything about him became too unbearable for him. His chubby fingers, which are the size of caterpillars yielded an intense disgust, the way he leaned on the chair and puffed out his cigar as though he knew he had caught them and happily boasted to their faces that he was smarter and that they were nothing but pair of numbskulls made it hard for him to breath normally. And that loathsome smile, to which Guy found himself staring with a stirring vehemence, showing that he, Gerard, the ever-intelligent detective had won the game, had figured these two thinking they were the geniuses was enough reason for him to be wiped off from the earth.

Bruno noticed how Guy’s face became tensed and rigid. How his usual serious had sunken deeper, the almost invisible jaw clench, the fixated eyes, the slight furrow of his eyebrows. Gerard might have thought that he had gotten Guy right in his button, that he had found the chink to his armor. He might though that Guy was now more serious because he’s caught but to Bruno, who had admired Guy’s handsome face multiple times that he can sketch his face and lay his scars correctly in place knew that Guy wasn’t nervous. He was holding something back.

By looking at the protruding veins in his neck and his clenched hands; Bruno instantly knew. While he was tormenting himself for failing Guy and trying all his best to remain calm under Gerard’s questioning, not once did he thought that Guy would be angry. Why hadn’t knew earlier? Doesn’t he know Guy as he knows himself? Isn’t he his other half?

A burst of joy suddenly erupted within him. Guy was wearing down. And Gerard doesn't have the slightest qualm how Guy is itching himself to take him out, out of the world, out to the endless void beyond the life.

Gerard was now superbly pleased with how silent the men were, he caught them in their game and now they have become submissive as hungry little puppies. However, his elation died down when he saw Bruno grinning. It was this wide mischievous grin that Samuel Bruno had hated. There was a giggle in his throat and Gerard was alarmed by the eyes of Bruno, that had seemed to reduced it pupils into pin like points, that had suddenly possessed the ultimate power of seeing through the layers of reality in the earth and through him. He felt like Bruno was seeing through him.

He turned to Guy, who was already charging towards him with a raised glass ashtray. The object come heavily down unto his head. The impact made him realize of his skull, the hollow sound of its crack and the next moment, he was unconscious. Gerard laid awkwardly on the floor as blood began to pool from his head.

“Chesses Guy!” Bruno jumped from his seat.

“I always believed that you had it in you!” He was so excited that he wanted to come to Guy and embrace him with all his might. He laughed out loud. “See? Guy, after the first time, it isn’t as hard anymore is it?”

He came close to Guy but was suddenly pushed away so hard that he fell on his buttocks.

          “Guy?”

Guy dropped the ashtray. His head was dropped low and there was a solemn expression on his face. For a second, Bruno didn’t know what was on his mind until Guy looked up at looked into his eyes. Guy began to gather his suitcase and went for his coat hanging on the rack in Gerard’s office.

         “Guy!”

Guy left. Bruno felt hurt for a moment, but then seeing the blood spreading on the floor, nearing his new shoes, a smile came on his face. Guy was scared. He was scared that he had done murder just because he didn’t like the way Gerard talked, how prideful he sounded. He was scared of himself. His eyes nonchalantly laid on the paling Gerard. So still and behaved as how Miriam was.

He smiled to himself. “He’s cute, isn’t he? I love him”

Gerard’s colleagues would be here soon. Guy was so disturbed that he forgot he shouldn’t pass through a building of detectives and police force after murdering a man. Bruno laughed. He then looked towards the nearest window and sighed. By the time anyone had entered the room, Gerard’s blood already had lost its fresh red vibrance, Guy was already on his plane to Canada and Bruno was urging his mother to meet the trip man so that they would leave for Europe on that very day.

“You should have kept your expectations low Guy.”

Guy hated that Bruno was right. He hated that Bruno was right on how his idea of meeting with Owen Markman was unnecessary and foolish. He hated that Bruno had suddenly showed up when he arrived on the airport and hated how he didn’t get rid of him. He even encouraged him for the purpose of coming clean to Owen Markman and allowing him to meet with the two men that were responsible for Miriam’s death. He hated that Bruno wasn’t cool to him as Anne would’ve been when he was making a stupid thing.

Owen Markman was quiet and dazed on his chair. There was no point talking to him. Guy thought it would be better to go home. He looked for the telephone and saw there wasn't any by the bed table. However, there was wire on the floor.

He crouched down and saw the telephone under the bed. He brought the receiver close to his ears. “Hello Mr. Haines. Would you please wait patiently as our men is on their way to arrest you?”

He jolted back and flung the telephone violently to the wall.

“What is it Guy?!” Bruno came near. Once he saw the telephone under the bed with its wire carefully strapped, he turned towards Owen. “You f— prick!”

Bruno grabbed the scotch bottle to swing on Owen’s head.

“It must’ve been the register in the airport.” Guy said, where he was sat on the floor with his heart racing like fast horses. Bruno halted his arm midway. He was very disappointed in how he stupid he was to sign the register with his own name in the airport.

Bruno came near and saw the discouraged look on Guy. “It’s just a tiny error Guy, we can still run. Come on.” He scooped his arms under Guy’s to him bring up. He had fought multiple times with Guy and he knows Guy wasn’t heavy as he is now. Guy didn’t want to stand up. “For F—‘s sake Guy! Come on! We have to go!”

Guy finally allowed himself to be hauled up to his feet. Bruno was thinking of way to escape when Guy suddenly wrapped his arms around Bruno. He embraced him tightly, hugging his waist then resting his head on Bruno’s shoulder. He then moved his hand to hold Bruno’s head, hugging him even harder and breathing deep the fancy shampoo Bruno used and the exquisite parfum on his suit. He nudged his head against Bruno’s, holding them tight close to each other. He wanted to engraved his existence into Bruno and the existence of Bruno into him.

Nothing ever scared Bruno more than Guy giving affection. He was overwhelmed, he liked being close with Guy but this sudden closeness made his heart tight.

Guy didn’t let go of Bruno as he tried to squirm away.

       “Bruno….” He whispered. “Bruno….”

He whispered his name more and more until his voice receded to nothing more than mumbles. Bruno had slightly calmed down, his face was of panic in not knowing what to do. In the minimal decrease of his panic, he felt more aware of his sense. He felt Guy’s warmth even more. The momentary ease brought his hands slowly, almost creepily crawling up to Guy’s back. It wasn’t a return of embrace but it was the closest as it can get.

Guy cradled  Bruno’s head and breathed against his ear.

       “I love you Bruno…”

Guy wanted to say more; he wanted to say Bruno was the only person that understood him, that he was the only one that truly knew him.

Bruno felt one of Guy’s hand withdraw and thought he was finally about to let go until he felt something came up between their bodies. The Luger. It came up right under Guy’s chin. Bruno’s eyes widened. Guy gave him a gentle smile, the only smile he had ever given Bruno. Then, gun shot.

       "GUY!!!"

The sound of the gun shot rang simultaneously with the door barging open. Bruno scrambled towards Guy, towards what was left of Guy’s bloodied and unrecognizable head, but arms held him back. Tears welled up in his eyes as he wailed his partner’s name. The police dragged him into the far corner of the room and anxiously tried to figure who killed who.

The most heart wrenching pain came upon him as he watched Guy’s body. Where had his face gone? Bruno’s jaw trembled as he saw the red and pink matter sprayed on the ground and a portion of it on the ceiling.

Bruno watched on until he couldn’t. The familiar sensation he felt that day came back, stronger than before. His fingers began to curl in exaggerated twists and now it they felt they clicked into a lock. He felt saliva bubbling in his mouth, along with the foam emerging from his lips.

“HEY! CHECK ON HIM! HE'S HAVING A STROKE!”

He felt so hot that he thinks his clothes would start to burn. The people attending him thought the same and were arguing what to do. With his painfully curled hands, he tried to crawl towards Guy. People tried to hold him back and steady him but he reached out for Guy. A person had to hold him down to keep him place but the hoarse cries coming from his throat wouldn’t stop. He wanted Guy. He wanted Guy. He wanted Guy.

"Mom, save Guy!” He managed to utter. “Please……”

He imagined that he fought his way out of the hold and managed to crawl to Guy and wept over his body. He tried to give Guy a feeble CPR with his curled fingers because at the moment, his state of mind thought it was the only way to save a life. If only he died that way, with his head on top Guy’s chest, apologizing to Guy until his last suck of breath.

But he didn’t. He died in that corner of the hotel room, where the police were performing a rescue procedure, where the detective-in-charge had placed a hand over his forehead in frustration and where his eyes slowly lost its life as he mumbled Guy’s name into the lonely afternoon, where rain will never see spring ever again.
