Honestly, if this was the best the Fairness Association could do nowadays, Alex had no doubt that they would be able to decimate the whole squad blindfolded with both their hands tied behind their back.
Then again, Alex could do that beforehand, so maybe Deceased Dude wasn’t as big of a step down as he seemed.
Alex could see Morgan’s soul in their body, sitting dormant and waiting as the hero possessed them. It was almost like they were sleeping.
Morgan wouldn’t mind if Alex had a little bit of fun with the hero. They could use the sleep, anyway.
“So I heard the Fairness Association got a new member. Apparently they can possess people.”
Alex watched as the hero’s aura shifted from one of forced calmness to panicked and slightly frightened before the Deceased Dude got a hold of himself.
“Oh shit, you better be careful, like what if they possess you?”
The hero definitely didn’t do their research then. Morgan would never doubt Alex’s power.
“Oh I’m not worried about it, I have a sneaking suspicion they can’t.”
Indeed, Alex could feel the Deceased Dude trying to force their way into Alex’s body, to push their soul into the back recesses of their mind like they did Morgan. It was a mildly annoying sensation— Alex had had sneezes that hurt more.
“How would you know, have you fought them or—?”
“Not yet,” Alex leaned in, letting their power flare ever so slightly, “but I think I might soon.”
Alex could see the hero’s soul cowering in Morgan’s body, the very edges of it quivering in fear.
“You’re acting a bit weird.”
Alex grinned darkly at that.
“I am acting a bit weird aren’t I?” Alex allowed their smirk drop into an expression of seriousness. “I’m not usually this patient.”
Then, Alex used their power to reach out and force the hero’s soul out of Morgan’s body. Normally they would have gone to the effort of dragging them through an afterlife or two, but slamming them back into their own body would suffice for now.
Alex watched as Morgan’s soul returned to normal, the dark gray of the hero fading away and replaced with the beautiful purple that was Morgan’s soul.
“How many times do I have to ask you not to teleport in front of me?!”
Alex finally let their guard down and gave their partner a smile. “Sorry.”
