Work Text:
It’s around midnight when Minho gets a call. He was supposed to go to this party with Seungmin tonight to celebrate Changbin and Hyunjin finally getting together. Everyone in their friend group has been waiting for it to happen. They’ve both liked each other for as long as anyone can remember so they always teased that when they finally got together, everyone would get together to celebrate and have a party.
Unfortunately, this weekend was not the best weekend for them to get together in Minho’s opinion. But hey, missing out on one party wouldn’t kill him.
Seungmin almost ended up not going because he said it’ll be no fun without Minho and that he’ll miss his boyfriend too much, but Minho finally convinced him that he should go because the only thing he’s doing all night is working on a paper. He did agree, however, to pick Seungmin up from the party and that’s probably the reason for his phone ringing right now.
Minho picks up his phone to check who’s calling, eyebrows lifting slightly when he sees that it’s a call from Felix and not Seungmin. For a moment, he almost begins to panic and think that something bad might’ve happened to Seungmin but he quickly shoos that thought away.
“Hello?” Minho says as soon as he answers the call.
“Hey, Minho! We miss you tonight.” Felix greets him warmly.
“I miss you guys, too. I wish I could be there to celebrate the newlyweds.” Minho jokes, hearing a bunch of commotion in the background. “So, what’s up? Did you guys need something?”
“Well, the thing is,” Felix starts, but doesn’t finish his sentence immediately. His voice suddenly sounds far away from the phone, but Minho can vaguely hear him say something that sounds a lot like Seungmin, get down. “I think Seungmin has had too much to drink. It might be time for him to check out for the night.” Felix finally finishes his thought and there’s a bunch of shuffling on his end like he’s moving around.
“Is that Minnie?” Minho snorts at the sound of his boyfriend’s voice. He can tell from that sentence alone that he has absolutely had too much to drink.
“Seungmin, we’re having a conversation right now. You can’t take my phone.” Felix says kindly like he’s talking to a baby.
There’s more shuffling on the line accompanied by bickering and grunts of struggle before Minho hears Seungmin’s voice booming through his speaker. “Baby, hi!” He shouts and Minho flinches from the loudness of his voice.
“You’re screaming, my love.” Minho chuckles, finally standing up from his desk and grabbing his car keys. He’s currently wearing a pair of black pajama pants with cats printed all over them that Seungmin bought him one day “just because they screamed Minho” along with one of Seungmin’s computer science t-shirts that apparently has a joke that you can only understand if you’re a computer science nerd. He likes to wear it, though, because it always makes Seungmin smile. “How’s the party going?”
“It’s good! So much fun, wish you were here.” Seungmin slurs the sentence out and Minho can hear him pout at the end.
“Yeah? Well, I’ll be there shortly. I’m gonna come pick you up, darling.” Minho says sweetly, leaving his room and making his way to the door. Everyone has learned that talking to drunk Kim Seungmin is very much like talking to a toddler.
It’s a lesson that Minho had to learn the hard way on a night very similar to this one. All of the boys were gathered at Chan’s apartment to celebrate the end of the semester. Seungmin, who had a particularly rough semester, was entirely ready to drink enough to try to forget everything about it.
Seungmin’s fine having a few drinks, his tolerance really isn’t bad at all, but once he gets to a certain point he tends to get sensitive.
That particular night, Minho scolded Seungmin for drinking too much and told him he had to drink water instead. Drunk Seungmin was so thrown off by Minho using his full name that he started crying instead of drinking the cool glass of water that his boyfriend had gotten for him. Equally-as-drunk Minho then had to spend the next twenty minutes explaining to Seungmin that he did not hate him and he was just trying to make sure that he didn’t get alcohol poisoning.
Since then, everyone makes sure that they’re very careful about what they say to Seungmin when he’s clearly at his limit.
“Are you taking me back to my place or yours?” Seungmin asks while Minho slides his shoes onto his feet, capturing his phone between his ear and his shoulder so he can tie his shoelaces.
“Whichever you prefer.” Minho sings sweetly as he exits his apartment. He waits to hear the chime that signals that his door is locked before he makes his way outside to his car. “Do you have a preference?”
Seungmin hums as he fakes thinking about the question. It’s an extremely drawn out hum that blends right into a giggle before he speaks again, “I always prefer being with you.” Minho tries to ignore the way his heart rate increases. He tells himself it’s not from how insufferably cute his boyfriend is being right now but rather from the brisk walk he is taking to his car. Stupid alcohol making Seungmin spill stupidly adorable truths. “Felix is glaring at me, I think he’s angry.”
Minho breathes out a laugh as he finally approaches his car in the parking lot. He easily slides into the driver’s seat and starts up the car. “I’m sure he’s not angry with you, love. How about you give the phone back to him and I’ll take care of it?”
“Hmm, fine. I’ll see you soon?” Seungmin’s words begin to run together again.
“I’m leaving now, I’ll be there shortly.” Minho says while he pulls out of his parking spot. “I love you.”
“I love you moreeee.” Seungmin sings obnoxiously and then the shuffling noises are back. “Here’s Lixie!”
“Thank you. Seungmin, have some water please!” Felix shouts and Minho raises an eyebrow at his phone that’s now secured on his phone mount. “And he’s gone. How does he have so much energy?”
“He’ll probably crash soon,” Minho snorts, eyes focused on the road as he continues to drive down the mildly busy main street near their college. It’s a Friday night so, understandably, there are a lot of college students out and about. “I’m not too far out, I should be there in, like, five minutes.”
“Sounds good, see you in a few.” Felix replies and hangs up shortly after.
Minho’s prediction was pretty spot on, it takes about five minutes until he’s pulling into the parking lot of Felix’s apartment complex. It doesn’t take long for him to park and make his way up to Felix’s apartment. He knocks to let everyone know that he’s coming in before pushing the door open and stepping inside.
“Minho!” Hyunjin, Jisung, and Jeongin all say excitedly from across the room at the same time as Minho shuts the door behind him.
Seungmin, who was previously occupied having a conversation with Changbin, turns his head towards the door just in time to see his boyfriend walk in. His face immediately lights up and he stumbles over his own feet trying to make it over to him. He pulls the elder in for a kiss, a noise of surprise coming from Minho’s throat as their friends whoop dramatically.
“Do you guys need a room?” Hyunjin jokes and makes kissing noises with an obnoxious smile as the two pull away from each other.
“Ha. Ha.” Minho says monotonously, his hand reaching down to secure Seungmin’s in his own. “I need to get this one to bed,” Minho starts and motions to Seungmin, who waves with a bright smile on his face, with his free hand. “Are we still doing breakfast in the morning?”
“Yeah, we’ll text in the group chat when everyone’s awake. It’ll probably be more of a brunch.” Felix chimes in from the couch.
“I love brunch.” Seungmin pipes in, squeezing Minho’s hand happily. Then, as if he suddenly lost all of his energy, he slouches so that his head is resting on Minho’s shoulder. “And I love sleep. Minnie, can we go sleep?”
Minho nods reassuringly, pressing a quick kiss to Seungmin’s forehead. “Yes, baby, we’re heading out. Just text us any updates.” Minho says in general to the room. There are hums of agreement across the room as everyone begins moving to settle down for the night.
Everyone else is either crashing at Felix’s for the night or they live within walking distance. Technically, Minho lives within walking distance as well, but he knew Seungmin was going to be low on energy by the time he made it over to Felix’s, so he decided that driving was the best option.
Minho is very gentle about walking Seungmin to his car, making sure he gets into the car without issues, and buckling his seatbelt for him. He jogs around to the other side and gets in before starting up the car.
The short ride back to Minho’s apartment is very quiet because Seungmin is fighting sleep the whole time. When they finally arrive, Minho repeats the process of unbuckling Seungmin, making sure he gets out of the car without tripping over himself too much, and helping him walk up to Minho’s apartment.
Minho can’t help but to laugh at the way Seungmin struggles to slide his shoes off at the door. “Do you think you can manage changing on your own while I get you a glass of water?” Minho asks as he crouches down to untie his own shoes and slide them off.
Seungmin nods eagerly and gives Minho a thumbs up. “Can I steal your clothes instead of wearing mine?”
“Of course, wearing your own clothes would be no fun.” Minho teases and Seungmin laughs way too hard at the subpar joke. “Alright, you need to go to bed. Go change, love.” Minho says, amusement lacing his voice as he gently pats Seungmin’s butt.
Seungmin fake pouts for one second and then leans forward to press a quick kiss to Minho’s lips. Before Minho can even react, Seungmin’s pulling away with a mischievous smile and taking off towards Minho’s bedroom. The elder keeps a cautious eye on him as he skips through the kitchen and into Minho’s room, only stumbling a couple of times on the way.
Minho smiles to himself and grabs a bottle of Tylenol from the kitchen counter because Seungmin will definitely need that in the morning. Then, he grabs a large glass from his drying rack and fills it with cold water from the fridge.
He makes his way back into his room just in time to see Seungmin sliding an oversized t-shirt over his head. He’s already picked out his favorite pair of Minho’s sweatpants and they are hanging comfortably around his waist. “Have I ever told you how much I love your scent?”
“Hmm, I don’t think so but thank you, baby.” Minho chuckles and walks over to his bed, setting down the glass of water and the bottle of Tylenol that he got for his boyfriend on his nightstand. “Come sit down, I’ll take off your makeup.”
Seungmin makes a noise of excitement and instantly follows Minho’s instructions, walking over to the large bed and taking a seat. Minho grabs the rolling chair from his desk and slides it over to a spot right across from Seungmin before taking a seat.
“I hope you know that I’m aware that you do this on purpose,” Minho says with a raised eyebrow, handing Seungmin his glass of water. “Drink, please.”
Seungmin obediently takes a few sips of his water. “That I do what on purpose?” He asks, feigning cluelessness.
“Deciding to wear makeup when you know you’re gonna be drinking because you like it when I take off your makeup for you.” Minho explains and opens the top drawer of his nightstand, pulling out a small container of makeup wipes.
“You can’t prove that.” Seungmin sings teasingly and pokes his tongue out before quickly taking a few more sips of his water and setting the glass back down on the nightstand.
Minho can’t prove it, no, but he can put together the pieces. Seungmin was never really a fan of makeup and he still isn’t. He says it’s too much effort and he’s naturally pretty so what does he need it for? He remembers the first time Hyunjin convinced Seungmin to wear makeup. They were going out to a bar to celebrate Seungmin’s birthday and Hyunjin had talked him into just some simple makeup that matched Seungmin’s outfit.
That night, understandably, Seungmin got completely wasted. Minho was already planning on not drinking too much so he could take care of his boyfriend that always liked to go over-the-top for his birthday, so he took good care of Seungmin when they got back.
That was an eventful night of helping Seungmin change, washing his sweaty and gross hair, and the first time Seungmin experienced his sweet, loving boyfriend gently taking off his makeup.
It wasn’t anything special, really, he just liked being so close to Minho and the way that Minho looks at him when he’s admiring every detail of Seungmin’s face as he wipes the makeup away.
After that night, Seungmin would occasionally wear makeup whenever he knew he would be drinking. Especially if it was a night like tonight where Minho would be sober and willing to take care of him like the perfect boyfriend that he is.
“Eyes.” Minho says softly and Seungmin is quick to close them. It doesn’t take long for him to feel the cool, moist towelette come into contact with his skin. Seungmin flinches slightly at the coldness and Minho breathes out a quiet laugh. “Sorry, baby.”
“‘s okay.” Seungmin mutters, too happy about the current situation to even care.
“Such pretty eyeshadow today. Have you been practicing?” Minho asks as he moves the wipe to Seungmin’s other eye, gently removing the makeup as well.
Seungmin starts to shake his head, but pauses when he remembers that Minho is wiping his makeup off. “No, Jinnie did it for me. Said you would like it.” His words begin to slur again, but this time from tiredness rather than the alcohol in his system.
“I do like it, you look pretty as always.” Minho says with such a genuine tone that it makes Seungmin’s cheeks heat up. “Okay, you can open them.”
Seungmin’s eyes flutter open and he can’t help but to giggle when he sees Minho staring back at him. “You’re prettier, you know that? So pretty even in that stupid shirt.” He says, poking Minho’s chest and smiling at the stupid joke.
“You love this shirt!”
“It’s nerdy, babe.”
“Baby, you’ve had too much to drink. You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Minho jokes and throws away the makeup wipe while Seungmin laughs to himself.
He grabs another wipe and starts removing the rest of Seungmin’s makeup. “Everyone missed you tonight.”
“Yeah?” Minho asks with a raised eyebrow as he continues removing Seungmin’s makeup.
“Mhmm,” Seungmin hums, “you’re the life of the party.”
“Oh, I think you held it down for me pretty well tonight.” Minho teases with a smile, finishing up with the makeup wipe and tossing it into the trash. “I’m gonna go get ready for bed, finish up your water.”
“Yes, sir.” Seungmin says dramatically, saluting to Minho as he stands up from his chair. Minho shakes his head and leans down to kiss Seungmin’s forehead before he walks to his bathroom.
He’s very quick in the bathroom, skipping steps in his skincare routine to get back to Seungmin as quickly as possible. It’s highly likely that Minho will return to bed and Seungmin will already be asleep, snuggled into bed by himself. It’s not a problem at all, really, but Minho just likes being able to hold Seungmin before he falls asleep.
So it’s a small victory for Minho when he returns to his room and finds Seungmin laying in bed, scrolling mindlessly through his phone. “You’re back.” Seungmin says cheerfully when he spots Minho walking in.
“You’re still awake.” Minho says playfully in the same tone and flicks the light switch off before walking over to slide into bed with Seungmin. “Thought you would be passed out by now.”
Seungmin hums, scooting closer to Minho and laying his head on the older’s chest. “Kept myself awake for you.” Seungmin mumbles tiredly, he knows how pouty and whiny Minho can be when they don’t get their cuddle time before they sleep. “Thank you for taking care of me tonight. World’s best boyfriend.”
Minho laughs softly, wrapping his arms around Seungmin’s waist and planting another soft kiss on his forehead. “Always. You’re taking care of me next time, though.”
“Deal. I’m not gonna wanna drink for like half a year.” Seungmin jokes. “Now let’s sleep, I can’t keep my eyes open any longer and I’m ready for brunch.”
“You’re ridiculous.” Minho grins and lets his own eyes fall shut. “I love you.”
“I love you more.” Seungmin sings tiredly and it doesn’t take long after for both of them to drift off to sleep.
