"Chat? Where would you go...if you could go anywhere?"
Multimouse and Chat lay atop the Arc de Triomphe, enjoying the stillness of the night and the isolation the tall structure provided.
The pair were laying in opposite directions, hands interlocked. Marinette had sewed the soft pink quilt beneath them. A picnic basket was set aside, empty from the meal they had shared (including pastries from her parent's bakery). Chat’s tail had looped its way around her arm and was now tapping lightly against her stomach.
"Anywhere?" Chat repeated, voice quiet and thoughtful. His eyes peered up at the night sky, starting to fill up with stars. He could see the beginnings of constellations. Orion, the Hunter, was the first to make its presence known. Soon others would follow. "I've been to a lot of places...I'm not sure where else I'd like to go."
"I haven't been to many places...and mostly with my parents. I went to Shanghai by myself once." She thought out loud.
"Ah. I remember. You were lost there, once. I called Ladybug to help find you. I was worried…Then Hawkmoth decided to attack." He squeezed her hand, his voice lilting into something more jovial. "I honestly considered that you might be working with Hawkmoth. He followed you to China and New York. It seems to me you are a magnet for Akuma attacks."
She rolled her eyes (not that he could see it) and ignored his somewhat serious joke. "What about you?” Her thumb started to trace infinity signs across the back of his hand. “Since you aren't sure where you would like to go, can you tell me about somewhere you've been? You were in New York, too. You found your way to Shanghai. Name one place you've been that is memorable to you."
He thought for a minute before saying, "Outer space...but not as my civilian self. I went as Chat Noir. I have a Space Powerup that allows me to fly very fast and go into outer space.” His voice sounded distant, “The Earth is so small from up there. I could see the lights of the cities, the path of the rivers, the storms moving across Europe, and the sunlight breaking through at the horizon…There is nothing like that down here."
She hummed in response. Multimouse couldn't tell him that she'd had a similar reaction as Ladybug. One day, she’d be able to share those experiences with him.
Chat Noir continued, “It’s breathtaking. Everything is so far away. It’s almost as if nothing can touch me. Not my father. Not Hawkmoth. Not the stress of school and pho–work.” He almost slipped up, and she chose to ignore the small hint into his civilian identity.
“It sounds…peaceful.”
“You would think so. And it is quiet…but lonely.”
Chat Noir and Multimouse continued to lay in silence, fingers intertwined. Basking in the peaceful feeling of just being together. A soft purr formed in his chest, and he closed his eyes, listening to how the sound of her soft breathes mixed with his low, rumbling purr. These moments were some of Chat’s favorite. More peaceful than the silence of outer space. And when he gazed upon the beautiful girl laying beside him, he was reminded that there was no view more breathtaking than Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
"I think I finally have an answer... about where I would go..." Chat Noir finally said.
"Hm..." Multimouse hummed out a response.
"Anywhere with you." He whispered, bringing her hand up to his lips and kissing it softly. "As long as you are with me, then I know that I am where I am supposed to be."
