Work Header

Do you really love me (or is it just a part of your persona?)

Summary:

Tommy rolled over and closed his eyes again.

“Don’t call me that..”

“What?”

“The pet name.”

“I-I thought you loved the pet names!” Wilbur stammered.

“Not if you have to fake it.”

Tears began filling up Wilbur’s eyesight. “Why would I fake them?”

“Because,” Tommy answered with a pained tone. “You don’t really love me.”

—----
Or,

Tommy absolutely adores being Wilbur’s little brother, basking in hair ruffles and fluttery kisses. But when he suddenly questions his affection, Wilbur wonders if it has something to do with Sneeg’s wedding.

Or in other words,

A random hater on Twitter argues that Wilbur doesn’t love Tommy, and Tommy believes them. Can Wilbur prove his love for Tommy?

Notes:

I'm late to the birthday crazy shhh we're not gonna talk about that~

And yes, I WILL finish my unfinished multi-chapter fics I'm just feeling really burned out and down recently and my friend said "Take a breakkkkkkk"

So now I'm just doing oneshots until I feel like it again.

This was my first quality oneshot so I hope you enjoy! This is also the first time I wrote a fic not centered on angst. I needed to write some fluff because I can't deal with angst anymore my life is already hard :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

6pm is Wilbur’s favorite time of the day.

Not because it’s dinnertime, or time he gets to wind down after work. But it’s because it’s the time when Tommy comes over for the evening.

The two had unofficially started a ritual that Tommy would come over to his flat, everyday at 6pm, and stay for a few hours before going back to sleep in his flat. Tommy initiated this from day three of when he moved in, closer to Wilbur.

The first time he came over, it was actually 10pm, and Wilbur was quite surprised to see Tommy. He still let him in; he was just confused.

“Tommy, what are you doing here?”

“Just wanted to hang out,” he replied straight to the point. Wilbur smiled as Tommy shook his head all fidgety, his twirly hair flying everywhere. After shaking his head, Tommy looked up at him, blue eyes sparkling among the night lights of Brighton.

This made Wilbur weak and all soft. “Oh alright.” His eyes were smiling, the same way they were smiling when Tommy first said they were like brothers, and he said he was going to cry.

Tommy cheered as he ran through the door, excited about living so close to his best friend.

Day two. Tommy came back. He stayed later this time, until 1am to be exact. He was falling asleep on Wilbur’s shoulder, when Wilbur decided he could stay for that night. After asking Tommy to wait while he got some blankets, he returned and wrapped his brother up, and the two fell asleep together on the couch.

Day three. Tommy came again. Wilbur began to tell him he couldn’t keep coming so late at night. Not because he was tired of his company, but because he was worried about Tommy roaming the streets at midnight to get back home. He talked to Tommy and they finally agreed on a time. Tommy would come at 6pm every night, so the two could bond for at least four hours, then Tommy can walk home without Wilbur growing gray hairs early. It was the perfect schedule.

Then, one day those stopped. Wilbur stood at the door, anticipating Tommy’s entry. But he never came. Wilbur gave him a quick text, but there was no reply. He assumed Tommy was just tired that day, and shook it off.

But he didn’t come again the next day.

Or the next.

He hadn’t been answering his calls or messages either. He really wanted to know what was wrong.

He was still active online, so he wasn’t kidnapped or anything (thank goodness). He just.. stopped talking to Wilbur personally.

Wilbur decided to go to Tommy’s flat this time, to check on him.

But he still couldn’t figure out why Tommy didn’t come. Was he upset? Was it something Wilbur did?

Oh, wait.

Then he remembered Sneeg’s wedding, and how he had to miss Tommy’s eighteenth birthday.

—----

Tommy burst into Wilbur’s door, nearly putting Wilbur into shock.

“Wilbur! Guess what’s happening next week!”

“Woah, Tommy,” he answered, panting. “Give me a second to catch my breath.”

Tommy ignored what he said and continued. “It’s my eighteenth birthday next week!” he shouted, his face glowing with pure joy.

Realization struck Wilbur. He was so busy he almost forgot.

“Tommy, oh Tommy!” he laughed, grabbing the boy and swinging him around. Tommy laughed too. “I’m so happy for you. You’re finally going to be an adult!”

Tommy nuzzled Wilbur in the cheek. “We’re going to do so many cool things, Wilbur!”

“Yes, yes we are!”

“Just one thing, Wilbur.”

Wilbur stopped spinning Tommy in circles, taken aback by Tommy’s sudden seriousness.

“What is it?”

Tommy tucked his face into Wilbur’s neck. Wilbur felt warmth surge through him and he caved in around his little brother.

“Will I be too old for cuddles, Wilbur?”

Wilbur’s breath was almost knocked out of him. “Oh, no, sweetheart,” he assured. “You’ll always be my Toms. My sunshine.” He pressed a quick kiss to his hair. “Just because you turn eighteen doesn’t mean I’ll stop showing my love to you in this way.”

He felt a smile form against his neck, tickling him. “Okay.”

“Now,” Wilbur slowly pulled back so he could look Tommy in the face again. “Let’s talk about what we’re going to do on your birthday!”

—----

In the morning, Wilbur picked up his mail at the mailbox. Whistling Consequences while going through his mail, he paused when he found a fancy-looking invitation. He opened it.

Oh cool! Sneegsnag is getting married! And he was invited!

He searched for the date of the wedding.

His face fell.

April 9th.

Oh.. it was on Tommy’s birthday.

What should he do? A wedding is a person’s most important time of their life. It marks the start of a new course for them. And if you’re invited, well, it means they want you to be a part of it. They would be quite disappointed if you don’t come.

Perhaps Tommy could wait. They could celebrate his birthday after he flew back. Tommy would understand.

Right?

Wilbur didn’t realize that it is actually quite a big deal to miss someone’s birthday

—----

Tommy was resting beside Wilbur, snuggled up and wrapped in Wilbur’s arms. He was so content, so happy. And he couldn’t wait to spend his eighteenth, a turning point in his life, with his brother.

He felt Wilbur lay his head atop his. Tommy’s eyes fluttered shut, and he hummed to the happy song from Up as it played from the tv.

“Tommy?”

“Hm?”

“Um.. there’s something I need to talk about with you.”

Tommy opened his eyes again. “What is it?” he mumbled, still smiling.

“Well, Sneeg is getting married.”

“Awesome!”

“..And he invited me to his wedding.”

“Wow, mate! Tell him I said ‘hi!’”

“..And well.. Tommy, would you be upset with me if I went?”

Tommy blinked, lifting his head to look up at Wilbur. “Why would I be upset?”

“Because, er- Tommy,” Wilbur’s eyes flitted from side to side, and he tugged at the collar of his double layered shirt. “Well, it’s on the same day as your birthday.”

Tommy felt as if his world just collapsed. Wilbur was choosing a wedding over his birthday? Wilbur didn’t even know Sneeg that well- at least, not as much as he knew Tommy. Was Tommy suddenly less important somehow? Tears filled his eyes but he shook them off. He gave a fake smile, grinning wide, wider than natural Tommy grins.

“Of course! I understand, Wilbur.”

Wilbur narrowed his eyes. “Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” he nodded a little too hard. “Definitely! It’s an important time in his life. My birthday doesn’t matter. I’ll have more to come!”

Wilbur brought Tommy close in an embrace. “Thank you so much, Tommy. You’re always thinking of others above yourself. I’ll come back as soon as I can, okay? Then we’ll have the biggest celebration you’ve ever had.”

While Wilbur didn’t see Tommy’s face, the soon-to-be birthday boy was actually crying. The background music turned to the sad part when Ellie dies, and Tommy had just felt like his dreams had died too.

He didn’t let Wilbur see that. He wiped his tears and fell asleep in Wilbur’s arms. And Wilbur never found out his true emotions.

—----

“Are you ready, chat?”

The chat was going crazy with so many messages popping up. Tommy sat there, holding a bottle of beer in his hand. Eighteen. He’s eighteen! He was actually legally allowed to do this! No one could stop him this time. No one could tell him he was too young.

He was going to take drinks responsibly, though. He kind of just bought the beer as a joke and for chat to have fun with him. No, he won’t ever try to get drunk. He’s always listened to Wilbur’s advice and took the elder’s experiences to heart, promising his big brother he’ll never drink more than he should.

He began opening the bottle. “I’m so nervous about this chat. Today, we’re going to show the world I’m not a child anymore!”

He took a sip. His eyes grew wide and he immediately spit it out.

“Ugh!! What the fly!”

The chat laughed.

Tommy grabbed a bottle of water and chugged away. He put his water down and ruffled his hair, coming closer to the camera and spinning in his chair. “What on earth?? Why do you people like this stuff? It’s awful!”

He made a scrunched face, then laughed.

“Well at least you guys got to see me try it. You know, if Wil-”

He paused, falling off his persona for half a second. Then shook his head.

“I mean- um- anyways!” He gave a fake smile again. “Don’t drink- it’s terrible!” he ended in a half-hearted laugh.

“I don’t even know about the cigarettes anymore,” he continued. A picture of Wilbur faking to smoke in his One Day music video came to his head, and his face fell again, missing Wilbur. Chat noticed. Chat knew he missed Wilbur.

“Do you miss Wilbur?” he read aloud from the chat. “No! I’m more fine than ever!”

“Wilbur shouldn’t have left you,” he read from another post. “What kind of a brother is he?”

“Alright, who said that?” he replied, getting defensive. He found them.

“You know what I have to say about that?” He flipped the viewer off. “Wilbur is a good brother, don’t say that about him. Fly you, I’m gonna ban you.”

Usually Tommy would ignore hate comments, but today, he just wasn’t feeling it. And when it’s about any of his friends, he gets even worse.

After banning the viewer, he returned to other matters.

“Anyways,” he said, lifting the beer bottle. “Who’s gonna even finish this?” he wondered aloud, sticking his tongue out. “Whatever. I’d rather have my orange juice, Wilbur!”

—----

Wilbur laughed at that one.

That warm laugh- the one that only Tommy could bring out.

He typed into the chat. “Good.”

Chat went wild, saying things like “It’s Wilbur!!” “Wilby’s here!!”

“Wilbur?” Tommy’s eyebrows raised.

He quickly searched through the chat history and a fond smile snuck on his face. His eyes lit up. “Hi, Wilbur!” he called, waving his hand excitedly.

Wilbur began typing, “Miss you, Toms,” but realized he only called Tommy, “Toms,” in private. His face flushed, and he frantically deleted the message.

“Hey Wilbur!”

Wilbur looked up, hitting the home button on his phone. It was Ranboo.

“We’re going to take a picture. Wanna join us?”

“Okay, sure.” He turned off his phone, hoping his jittery act didn’t raise any suspicion.

He put an artificial smile on his face again, telling people, Yes, I want to be here. I am completely present. I wasn’t on my phone. I wasn’t in Tommy’s stream.

No, no of course I do not miss him.

—----

That evening, Tommy decided to scroll some on Twitter. He felt warm with every piece of fanart that he was tagged to.

“Happy birthday Tommy!”

“Happy birthday big man!”

His face grew red when he came upon a post from his mom.

“Happy birthday my dear Tommy! Love ya!”

Below that was a picture of him as a baby.

—----

“Awwweee, Tommyyyyy!”

Wilbur cooed at the baby picture. He never knew Tommy looked this cute as a baby! He was so chubby and cuddly. His baby skin was so soft, and a small wisp of his marigold hair dangled on his head.

But the thing that made Wilbur’s breath hitch was his bright, ocean blue eyes. So full of wonder and love. Love ready to be given to everyone.

Looking back, Wilbur could see every bit of Tommy’s pure soul behind those captivating eyes. He sat there, with a mushy smile and tears of joy. He missed his little Tommy. He left a comment, and a few moments later Tommy replied. The two had a good joke, and Wilbur then decided to send a personal message to Tommy. A more vulnerable one.

Wilbur: Hey, saw your mom’s post of you.

Wilbur: Awwww you look so cute!

Wilbur: I miss you so much, love.

Wilbur: <3

He kept picking up his phone to see if Tommy responded, but there was nothing. He shrugged. Maybe Tommy was busy doing something else for his wonderful birthday evening.

—----

Tommy left a comment on the tweet.

“Momm!!!!!”

He scrolled through the other comments.

“Little gremlin. You could see the horrid mischief in his eyes.”

Wilbur.

He replied.

“What’s worse- baby gremlin me or anteaters?”

“Hmm.. you. I’d rather come across an anteater than baby you.”

Tommy laughed. He knew, in reality, Wilbur meant the opposite. He only pretended to hate him to cover up that vulnerability that was only allowed on his couch, when Tommy would be wrapped up in blankets, cuddles, and kisses.

He scrolled to the next post, and he stopped laughing.

It was a picture of Jack, Wilbur, and Ranboo at the wedding.

He felt a pang in his heart; the fear of missing out.

All the comments talked about how classy and fine the boys looked, and Tommy’s fears were replaced by pride for his brother.

Yup, that’s his brother. Kind, selfless, and a flying legend.

Wilbur’s fist was resting at his chest, and he was looking to the distance, like in the picture where he was dressed up as the president of l’Manberg. He always seemed to have the confidence and qualities of a leader, but deep down inside Tommy knew he was gentle and sweet.

Tommy missed Wilbur the longer he stared at the image of the tall, chestnut-haired brother.

His eyes drifted to Wilbur’s shoulder, where Tommy always had his head rested. Wilbur’s neck, where Tommy’s head perfectly fit in.

Wilbur’s gaze seemed full of dignity, but once Tommy looked closely, he saw a tinge of longing mixed in.

Wilbur missed Tommy. It was obvious. He really wished the wedding didn’t fall on the same day as Tommy’s birthday. But what could he do? He couldn’t hurt Sneeg’s feelings. And he knew Tommy would understand that there are some things he can’t control.

He scrolled to the next thing. It was a tweet, from a random “fan.”

“What the fly was Wilbur doing at Sneeg’s wedding and not being with Tommy?? That proves my point. Wilbur doesn’t actually care about Tommy. He just puts up with the big brother act because the fandom presses the crimebois are like brothers!”

Tommy winced. Who was this person? He tapped on their account, and it looks like they’ve been putting out theories the whole time about Wilbur not actually loving Tommy. That it was all just him being like his canon character and persona.

There were so many of them that Tommy actually began to believe they were true.

One stuck out to him particularly.

“Great, now Tommy’s moving closer to Wilbur’s because he actually believes Wilbur loves him? Gremlin, don’t waste your money trying to move to Brighton!”

Another one as well.

“Wilbur said in his stream today that he gave Tommy some blankets and bedsheets because the heater in his place was broken. Do you guys actually believe that? He probably just gave one or two out of courtesy, formality. Tommy should stop bugging him. You’re a grown man now, Tommy, and Wilbur has his own life!”

Tears streamed down Tommy’s face. He remembered that night, when he knocked on Wilbur’s door, droopy-eyed with a bedhead. At the immediate sight of him, Wilbur pulled him closer and gave him a kiss, filling him with the warmth he was lacking from his flat. Then he proceeded to give him his thickest blankets, offering to carry them to his room, and then carry Tommy back to his bed.

This random, toxic person on Twitter had no right to say those things! Tommy checked the comments, wondering if any Wilbur apologist was there to defend him.

Not a single one. Everyone agreed with the theorist.

There were so many agreeing comments with backed up evidence that Tommy began to believe them.

Well, he wasn’t even related to Wilbur by blood. Why should Wilbur care about him? Tommy was just an internet friend that joined his smp. He accidentally called him a brother once. Surely it couldn’t have meant anything to Wilbur?

They were just another pairing. Just another one among all the groups categorized in the fandom. Allium duo, bee duo, tnt duo, bench trio, dream team…

Crimebois is no different. Crimebois isn’t special.

Crimebois isn’t real.

…Right?

“They’re brothers, your honor,” the famous slogan was.

Brothers.. the word echoed in Tommy’s head. Maybe it was just fanon.

They weren’t even brothers in canon! Even then, it was all just a roleplay.

So.. why would Wilbur even care for him in real life as a brother?

How does Tommy know his feelings are genuine?

Maybe because they aren’t. The voice in his head hissed. He’s only keeping up the act because you like it.

At that exact moment, a notification popped up. It was Wilbur.

“Hey, saw your mom’s post of you.”

“Awwww you look so cute!”

Tommy smiled, but shook it off, remembering it was fake.

“I miss you so much, love.”

No, Tommy nearly whispered aloud. You don’t really.

—----

After the wedding, Wilbur just couldn’t wait to get home.

At the airport, he was all jittery. Pacing back and forth, while random people looked at him funny.

In the bus, he couldn’t help but look out on the streets. Hoping to see the boy’s golden hair among the crowds.

When he arrived at his flat, he rushed to text Tommy. Inviting him over to see him.

As Wilbur settled down, putting away his luggage and cooking some dinner, he kept checking his phone.

Again, Tommy didn’t respond.

Now Wilbur was confused. Why hadn’t Tommy talked to him in the past few days? Well, yes, he spoke to him. But he was speaking to him in his persona, and, in the face of millions, Wilbur was obligated to stay in his too. He wanted to speak to Tommy personally, without the world watching them. Alone with Tommy, where they could be themselves.

The world isn’t watching them when Wilbur acts overprotective over Tommy.

The world isn’t watching them when Wilbur pulls the softest blanket over Tommy’s shoulder.

The world isn’t watching them when Wilbur calls Tommy, “Sunshine,” and Tommy calls Wilbur, “Wilby.”

The world isn’t watching them when Wilbur brings Tommy close and gives him a kiss on the forehead.

Wilbur wanted that. He didn’t want Tommy’s reply to a comment.

Where was Tommy? Real Tommy?

Wilbur dialed his number.

Of course: an automatic voice message.

Something gnawed at Wilbur’s stomach. He dismissed it as hunger, and went to eat. He told himself that Tommy was probably tired that night, and didn’t want to come over yet.

Yet, even after he ate a nice, warm soup, the gnawing feeling remained.

—----

A couple days later, Wilbur began to really worry.

Even though it’s only been three days since Tommy hadn’t responded to his texts, and that considering how Tommy is active online, he is still doing okay, Wilbur still worries.

Maybe he’s busy, he thinks to himself.

But no. When he thinks about the times when Tommy is busy, the affectionate boy always makes time for Wilbur anyway.

Maybe he should go check on him. See what he’s been up to. Maybe his phone broke or something.

Wilbur left his flat and made his way to Tommy’s. While walking, he fiddled with the glasses in his hands. He really hoped Tommy was okay.

He arrived at Tommy’s door and, after putting his glasses back on, gave a knock.

“Tommy!”

He didn’t hear anything. Assuming Tommy must be somewhere where he couldn’t hear him, Wilbur went ahead and rummaged in the flowerpot of yellow roses. (The yellow roses I gave to Tommy when he first moved in, he later realized. Wasn’t there that one fanfiction about yellow roses and friendship?) He found the key, buried among the flowers. Blowing off the dirt, he turned the key and opened the door.

The flat was quiet. Empty. Wilbur roamed around, checking each room.

“Tommy? Tommyyyy”

Finally, he passed Tommy’s bedroom, the only closed door. He opened it, and his heart dropped at the sight.

Tommy was limp on the floor, knocked out.

“Tommy!” Wilbur screamed, landing on the floor beside him. He shook Tommy roughly, to wake him up.

Tommy slowly cracked his eyes open. Wilbur stopped breathing when he saw how dull his eyes were. He knew that look anywhere. Fearfully, his eyes moved around the room, when he found what he was looking for.

The beer bottle laid on the floor, almost empty. The remains were staining the rug.

“Toms..” he whispered. “Did you-”

“Why are you here?” Tommy croaked.

“That doesn’t matter.” Wilbur’s hands were still shaking. “Why did you drink all that?”

“People say it makes you feel better, right?” Tommy’s voice was tired and sick, but he was definitely sober. Wilbur assumed he must be experiencing the hangover.

Why does he need to feel better? “No, no, no, Tommy. It doesn’t fix anything,” he gently corrected.

“I wish I knew that earlier. I feel sick as hills, Wilb.”

“It must be because you’ve never had alcohol before, Tommy,” he almost said to himself, voice full of shock. “And even though you’re eighteen now, love, you’re still too young to drink that much.”

“Tommy!” Wilbur took off his glasses so he could lay his face into Tommy’s cheek. He sobbed wildly. “Tommy! I do, I do love you- why do you think I don’t??”

Tommy was silent, almost as if he was afraid to explain why.

“Toms, sunshine, love, tell me!!”

At the sound of those sweet names, Tommy began tearing up too. “Because..”

“Because why?” Wilbur desperately pressed.

“It’s just- Wilby, I-” Tommy began shaking, hiccupping as he spoke. “I just don’t want you to have to act like you love me just for the whole ‘brothers’ thing. It’s just a part of your persona, I know. We’re supposed to act like brothers to make everyone happy. If you don’t really love me like that, you don’t have to keep doing it off screen. I mean, I like it- I really like it. But if you’re only doing it to make me happy and it forces you to love me then.. I don’t.. I don’t think I want it.”

The world just stopped for Wilbur. He had no idea what to say. Where did Tommy get these ideas? Of course he loved him! Tommy had never questioned his love for him before. Why now? What happened?

Then realization struck Wilbur like lightning. He turned his face towards Tommy’s phone laying beside them. Warm cheek still against cold cheek, Wilbur held a trembling hand out to the phone, tapping in Tommy’s passcode. He saw the last thing Tommy was on.

“Have you been on Twitter?”

“Mhm. It’s everywhere. I know you went to Sneeg’s wedding because-”

“TommyInnit, I love you,” Wilbur cut him off short. “Sneeg’s wedding says nothing about our relationship. I care about you. I want to be with you. I would turn the calendar upside-down for you if it meant I could have been here on your eighteenth. But I’m human. And some things I can’t change. Some things I can’t control. I don’t know what else to say, Tommy. I had to go; there was no other choice.”

Tommy was quiet again for a moment. Wilbur pulled back, and Tommy turned again and looked Wilbur straight in the eye.

“Wil, how do I know that’s true?”

Wilbur couldn’t take it anymore. The child was looking at him with eyes full of so much fear and sadness that it made him choke. But there was still a spark of hope behind all the fog. A fog he could break through. He bent over and pressed his lips against Tommy’s forehead, feeling Tommy melt underneath him. He released and nuzzled Tommy in the nose, both of them smiling with warmth and happiness. Tommy understood the gesture, whispering, “Okay,” and falling asleep peacefully.

—----

“Wilbur, why do you love me so?”

Wilbur’s hand, which was in the middle of a regular run down Tommy’s hair, stopped. While still chewing the candy Wilbur gave him earlier, Tommy stared back up at Wilbur, begging for the answer. Knowing Wilbur’s weakness, he made a puppy-eye sort of look. He saw the brown eyes soften, and knew he won.

He released a deep breath. “Oh stars, where could I start?”

Disappointed, Tommy’s gaze faltered. “I knew it. You don’t really.”

“What? No, no, Tommy!” He began to laugh. He lifted up Tommy and spun him around. “Toms, I said that because there are just so many things I love about you that I don’t know where to begin!”

Tommy giggled, holding Wilbur by the neck as he spun him around in a waltz. He wondered how Wilbur could carry him so easily, and then remembered the time Wilbur was bragging about the strength in his right arm from strumming the guitar so much.

“Tommy, dear Tommy,” he started. “I- I just love everything about you. I don’t know, maybe just something about the way you smile when we joke, or the way you stare into space like a goldfish when you’re deep in thought. Maybe it’s the way you playfully threaten me when I sweet talk you. Or even the way that your voice croaks in the morning when we call.

“Maybe it’s the way your head fits perfectly in the crook of my neck. Or the way you laugh. Not your streamer laugh, but your real laugh. The one that is higher pitched and bubbly. The one you only do around me. Maybe it’s the way your eyes light up everytime you sing Perfume, or the way you hide in the blankets when you come to sleep in my flat. I just- I don’t know…”

Tommy rested his head into Wilbur’s neck, sighing, relieved at the assurance of easy love.

“And one more thing,” Wilbur added. “You’re still going to be drinking orange juice. Until you’re 30.”

“Ugh. I didn’t even enjoy that bottle anyway.”

“Then why did you drink it all?”

Tommy paused a little, lifting his head. “Because I tried to get my mind off you..”

The waltzing stopped. Wilbur’s eyes were full of regret. Tommy felt a pang of guilt. He didn’t mean to ruin the moment. He had to lighten up the mood again.

“Welllll, I still know where your sweets drawer is!” he teased.

Wilbur smiled. “Oh, stars no. That’s probably a worse danger. I’m moving the sweets to somewhere else.”

Oh dear, this is serious. Tommy needed to bring on the big weapons now.

“Awwww Wilbur!” he squeaked. He rubbed his face into Wilbur’s sweater, not letting the soft texture distract him. He then gave the puppy-eyes again. “But Wilby, sweets are good!”

Then Tommy’s whining was interrupted by a kiss, stopping him before he could say another word. While Wilbur’s lips were still on his forehead, Tommy felt a hand going through his hair, scratching and making him instinctively purr.

“Not.. fair…”

Wilbur smiled on his forehead. He knew Tommy’s greatest weakness so well.

But Tommy didn’t mind. Secretly, he still enjoyed having Wilbur protecting him, even though he is now legally an adult. It made him feel warm and safe. To know that Wilbur saw him as precious enough to preserve him.

Whatever doubts he had in his head earlier all dissipated. He knew for a fact that his brother loved him for who he was. Not because he did anything or because he would benefit him. Wilbur loved Tommy just because he was Tommy. And Tommy loved Wilbur just because he was Wilbur. No haters could say otherwise. No one could say that either one was forced to love the other.

So no matter what, no matter where, and no matter how old, Wilbur will always love Tommy.

Right?

Right, Wilbur silently told Tommy.

A thump as Wilbur landed on the couch, and a slight knock as he fell asleep with Tommy, heads atop each other. The next day, Tommy will go after his brother and delete Twitter. Then they will spend the rest of their day celebrating Tommy’s birthday and their wonderful friendship.
