Work Text:
Jason knew he had fucked up, someone had died that night and it had been his fault, he had been too careless, he had been overconfident and that had cost someone's life...
But if Jason was being honest, the dead of that person wasn't weighting that much on him, after all, the guy tht died had been working in the human trafficking ring they had stopped that night, so in past times, when he hadn't come back to the bats yet, Jason would probably had killed him himself.
So no, his death didn't weighted that much on him, but what did weighted on him was Bruce's disappointment...
All the way back to the cave, the man hadn't even spared him a glance, even less a word.
Alright, Jason could also live with Bruce's anger, it wasn't the first time he disappointed the man and it definitely wouldn't be the last, but what what had Jason on edge, was their bond... Oh how much Jason adores their bond, it made communication so much easier, it told what the other was feeling, and for them, whose words sometimes came hard to, the bond was a blessing, it always let the other know what could not be said with words.
But right now, Bruce was blocking him, Jason couldn't send anything or receive anything from their bond right now.
Jason would a 100% rather to get anger as feedback from the bond than absolutely nothing. Everytime he tried to reach Bruce through the bond, he only found static on the other side...
Jason glanced at Bruce. He was hunched over in front of the computer, probably writing a report, so Jason decided to leave him for now and head for the showers, hoping the man was less angry by the time he was done.
Jason took a long warm shower and changed into comfortable clothes, and when he came out, he found Bruce still on the same place.
He couldn't keep procrastinating, so he finally approached Bruce and cleared his throat, and although he didn't turned around, Jason could see in the tension of his muscles that he was listening to him.
"Look B... I'm sorry, ok? I didn't meant for things to go that way, I fucking swear! I didn't want him to die, but I know it was my fault, I should have done better, I was supposed to be looking after him, I fucked it up, and I'm sorry..." he apologised, trying to transmit his sincerity on his voice, and that's when Jason realized how helpful was his bond in those kind of situations...
Jason waited a few seconds, but he didn't get and answer from Bruce, not more than a half hearted grunt.
He frowned slightly, he didn't blamed Bruce for being mad, that was fine, he could stay mad at him for as long as he wanted, but the block in their bond was really making him anxious.
"B... I know you are mad and disappointed... That's fine, you can be mad, you can hate me for as long as you want, you can tell me to get the hell out of here if you don't want me around, you can tell me to go to my own room if you don't want to have me next to you tonight, all that it's fine... But... Don't block me out... Please... Don't block our bond..." he begged him, his voice breaking slightly at the end and his eyes started to get misty
Again, there was no answer, and Jason had to admit the silence was hurting more than when they got into verbal discussions, but feeling resigned to not get an answer from Bruce, he turned around to leave...
He took a few steps, but he suddenly froze... He felt a pull at his chest, and suddenly he was filled with anger and disappointment, yes, but all that was enveloped in warm affection...
Jason looked back at Bruce and couldn't help but smile slightly.
Bruce was now standing up and looking at him with a small frown on his face, but there was softness and fondness in his eyes.
Jason approached him cautiously, and when he was close enough, he leaned against him and Bruce immediately wrapped his arms around him.
"I'm sorry..." Jason apologized again, laying his head against Bruce's shoulder
Bruce once again didn't answer, but leaned closer, following a trail of kisses from his neck to his jawline.
Jason just hugged him back tightly and they stayed like that for a few minutes, until Jason decided to talk again after feeling the anger starting to dissipate from the bond.
"I know I made a mistake B... But I promise I'll do better, I won't make the same mistake, I'll make sure to always keep everyone safe, no matter what..." he assured him, but contrary to what he expected, he felt Bruce tense
Bruce pulled away slightly, cupping Jason's face with his hands, his thumbs caressing his freckled cheeks softly.
"I want you to always make everything in your power to avoid any casualties, no matter who they are" he told him with a serious expression, but it soon softened "But if it ever comes to you or them... This might be selfish, but I want you to be the priority, I want you to always be safe, so if the situation is too much, always make sure to get yourself to safety first" he leaned close and placed a kiss on the tip of his nose before pulling him again into a tight hug
Now it was Jason who didn't said anything, but it was fine, it wasn't necessary, that's what their bond was for, but there was something about knowing that he was more important to Bruce than his mission or his duty as a hero, that was important, but it seemed he was more...
"Sooo, you are not that mad anymore to kick me out of your bed?" Jason asked him after a few minutes, smiling with faked innocence
Bruce smiled softly "Go, I'll join you in a second" he promised
Jason pulled away from the embrace and headed upstairs, feeling as if a weight have been lifted from his shoulders, and now that with all the worries left behind, he was starting to feel really tried, so he went straight to Bruce's room, he had his own room on the manor, but he rarely slept there anymore, not since he and Bruce have become official.
Once there he just jumped in the bed, starting to doze off almost immediately...
He didn't know how much time had happened, but he woke up when he felt a weight on the bed, and when he opened his eyes slightly, he saw Bruce there, setting on his left side.
When Bruce noticed that Jason was awake and looking at him, he opened his arms in a silent invitation, and Jason went easily, rolling towards him and setting against his chest.
And like that, being hold by the man he loves while he caressed his hair softly, he fell asleep...
But Bruce didn't quite follow. He stared at Jason's sleeping face for a moment, smiling softly, god he really loved him so much...
Bruce knew that both of them were prone to make mistakes that would bother the other, and in the past he had gotten in a few discussions and disagreements with Jason that hadn't ended too well, it just happened that their personalities and their ideals sometimes clashed, and Bruce had started to worry that this kind of relationship would never work between them, until he figured it out...
Jason would do many things that drove him mad, things that he might disagree with, and it was fine if they sometimes fought about it, that was natural, as long as they didn't allowed things to get out of hand.
But the real thing that had helped the most, had been their bond... A bond that Bruce had feared for a while, since it made him feel vulnerable, but soon realized it was the most helpful thing, because it didn't matter how angry they were with each other, their bond will always tell the truth, and while Bruce is telling Jason angry and disappointed words, the bond is telling him that regardless of the situation, he loves him very dearly...
He placed a gentle kiss on Jason's forehead, whispering softly at him "Doesn't matter what you do, what mistakes you make, what disagreements we have, I promise... To always love you..."
