Foresight

Summary:

It's been 50 years since the last prophecy had been told. 50 years since the Othermind had been eradicated. 50 years since Pantala and Pyyhria connect again. But it's also been over 2,000 years since Clearsight and her powers were last seen. That power of a dragon had not been seen in anyone else since then.

Until one Nightwing hatched. And was met with more outcomes than she could ever process.

Not only has this unusual power returned, so has danger.

Chapter 1: Foresight Prophecy

Chapter Text

Returns the king of darkness

Remember where it began

Beware the queen who wishes death

And all who follow her plans

Search for the dragon who crawls

Listen to the dragon who wonders

Remember the dragon in the sand

Protect the amethyst that’s to be plundered

Keep the princess of fire

And forget not the princes of water

Look far beyond

And far behind

Before the final dawn

She who sees and he who wishes

Will reawaken magic before the tribes are gone

Chapter 2: Prologue

Chapter Text

Turtle’s chest heaved as he swam through the saltwater; he had been swimming for hours, barely ever stopping to rest. His whole body ached. He let out a few bubbles of relief as he finally saw land just a few more yards in front of him. The dragon glanced up a moment, scanning the sky to watch for any dragons that had been following him. He found the sky to be clear.

He stalked out of the water slowly, his gaze never leaving the sky. He let out another exhale and began scaling across the moist sand.

A sick, low hiss made Turtle pause. His ears twitched and his eyes glanced nervously around. A shape formed in the corner of Turtle’s eye, becoming bigger and bigger as if it were approaching him. Slowly and hesitantly, the Seawing turned his head to face the creature. His heart plummeted as he made eye contact with an extremely angry-looking Icewing stalking out of the ocean toward him.

The ice dragon’s mouth twisted into a threatening smile as she continued walking toward the prince. Her teeth looked unnaturally sharp even for an Icewing.

Turtle sprinted toward the rainforest, hearing the Icewing immediately running after him as well. The Seawing lifted and dropped his tail down fast, splashing a large amount of sand at the other. The Icewing let out a shout of frustration and pain as the sand made its way into her eyes. Turtle would’ve grinned to himself if he wasn’t literally running for his life.

The Icewing quickly continued after him, her eyes now irritated but still full of determination. He could hear her open her jaw to use her frostbreath, to which the Seawing responded with another tail whip down. But the dragon knew his tricks now, so she easily avoided it from blinding her more.

Turtle bit his lip and attempted to pick up the pace. He felt damp leaves brush against him as he made his way through the rainforest border. But the Icewing was still close behind him. The prince felt his side cramp but did not slow down. Now was not the time to let himself get caught; he had a wife and egg he had to get back to. A home he needed to be.

He heard the Icewing pause behind him, but he didn’t risk looking back. But he did glance up and find some familiar dragons in the treetops, some being Nightwings and most being Rainwings. He let himself smile as he kept running.

When he made it to his own little hut, Turtle collapsed right in the doorway.

“Turtle!” a voice said, shocked. The Seawing looked tiredly up at them, being met with worried green eyes. He smiled softly and pressed his snout into the dragon’s neck.

“Hi, Kinkajou,” he said quietly. The Rainwing looked at him troubled.

“Turtle, what happened? Are you alright? You look exhausted.”

Turtle lifted himself into a sitting position and placed his head delicately onto her shoulder. “I’m alright. Guess they caught up to me.”

Kinkajou pulled him back. “They caught up to you?? How? I thought you were traveling by the ocean?”

“I was,” the Seawing scratched his neck. “But I guess an Icewing found their way to me.”

Kinkajou’s brows furrowed. She pressed her head against his chest, sighing. “At least you came back to me.”

Turtle wrapped his wings around the Rainwing, sitting there in silence with just each other. Kinkajou’s ears perked and she lifted her head out of the hug. She glanced toward a small nest with a light purple egg atop it. She shared a look with the Seawing as the egg wiggled slightly. They shared a smile and giggled stupidly as they bumped their foreheads together.

Meanwhile, a light purple Icewing walked out of the Rainforest with a frustrated expression but at least four more dragons added to her bodycount

Chapter 3: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 1]

Chapter Text

Mystify scanned the scroll in front of her, overlapping her front talons as she read. It was another story about Clearsight, the ancient dragon with the ability to predict infinite possibilities as well as the ancestor of HiveWings. Mystify had always taken interest in her, even before she truly started developing her powers. Perhaps because she found the idea of a single dragon finding their way to a whole other continent fascinating since she was young.

But, Mystify knew the real reason she found Clearsight interesting: ever since hatching, Mystify had the ability to foresee the future. But not in the way other Nightwings could, in the way Clearsight did. It was shocking, of course, as a tiny dragonet suddenly being bombarded with several different scenarios depending on the choices she made. But she found a way to work around it.

Mystify didn’t necessarily like her power, she would definitely be okay if she had been born without it, but it wasn’t necessarily a setback either. She could see if danger was approaching, see if a certain path would lead to a dead-end, what to say to certain dragons. She wasn’t nearly as wise or cunning as Clearsight was and she usually just used her power to tell when it was gonna rain so she could get inside without getting drenched.

Luckily, her visions never brought her any prophecies. Prophecies hadn’t been delivered in the past 50 years, most dragons nearly forgot about them. They were looked down upon, seen as burdens instead of instructions. Mystify didn’t want that.

As the dragonet read, the image of a purple dragon in her doorway appeared. Without even lifting her head Mystify spoke, “come in.”

A Rainwing stood on the Nightwing’s porch, a hand raised as if ready to knock. He blinked slowly before chuckling. “Of course, you saw me coming.”

Mystify giggled and looked up at him. “Hi, Hummingbird.”

“Hi,” he nodded back. He strode inside and sat next to Mystify, nudging her slightly to look at her scroll. “Whatcha reading?”

The Nightwing shifted a bit, tapping a talon on top of the paper. She bit her cheek as she replied, “just…something about Clearsight.”

Hummingbird scrunched his nose. “You’ve been reading about her for years. Don’t you think you’ve learned enough?”

“I just wanna know if she did have any Nightwing dragonets,” she replied sheepishly. Over the past two thousand years, none of the Hivewings (or Silkwings for that matter) had anything close to Clearsight’s powers. As far as anyone knew, the only offspring the prophet ever had were who the wasp dragons descended from.

Hummingbird frowned. “She didn’t. The only Nightwing she ever loved was the lunatic my mom told me about.”

Mystify chuckled softly. “Yeah, I guess.” She frowned at the scroll in front of her.

The Rainwing nudged her with his wing. “Oh, stop looking so glum and come get some candy with me.”

Mystify let out a chortle before sitting up. “Alright, fine, as long as you’re the one buying them.”

Hummingbird gave her a large smile and started bounding outside. Mystify followed quickly, the two falling into a fit of giggles as they ran. They said hi to a few neighbors passing by, somehow not running into any of them. The two were side-by-side with Mystify only slightly behind. They sent stupid smiles at each other as they neared a cleared-out area full of small shops.

The Rainforest Market.

It wasn’t anywhere near the types of marketplaces in Possibility or the Scorpion Den or the LeafSilk Kingdom, but it was enough for the Rainforest settlers.

Hummingbird shoved Mystify playfully as he sprinted forward to their favorite shop: Swallowtail’s Sweets. The Nightwing yelped but quickly followed her best friend. They skid to a stop, nearly tripping over each other, which startled the Silkwing slightly.

“Hello, Mystify, Hummingbird,” the dragon nodded politely at the dragonets. She chuckled softly at their wide smiles. “I’m guessing the honey mangoes?”

The Rainwing and Nightwing nodded giddily, Hummingbird reaching into a small pouch wrapped around his neck. Swallowtail smiled and began digging around under her little shop's window. Hummingbird pulled out about five scales as the Silkwing lifted a small bag with a mango pictured on it. They traded happily before the dragonets walked just to the side of the clearing without any shops.

The two sat eating their honey-covered mangoes, chatting.

“I think my dad’s gonna take me to the Sea Kingdom to visit my aunt,” Hummingbird said as he popped another candy into his mouth. Mystify looked up at him.

“Woah, really? It’s been what? Three years since you last visited?” Mystify asked. Hummingbird nodded. “Huh. Guess I forgot you’re basically a prince, your majesty.”

Hummingbird scrunched his nose at Mystify, who was giggling hysterically. “Oh, hush,” he said, bopping her on the snout. As she calmed down, the Nightwing adjusted her glasses before peering up at the sky.

“When’s suntime again?” She asked, reaching into the bag of candy again.

“An hour? I think,” Hummingbird replied. Mystify nodded. “You gonna be alright without me for a while?” He asked teasingly. The Nightwing rolled her eyes, smirking.

The two always teased each other like this, it was just how their friendship was. Maybe it was being part-Seawing that made Hummingbird not as flamboyant as the other Rainwings, but Mystify didn’t mind that. As long as he was the kind and funny dragonet she’d been best friends with since hatching.

Chapter 4: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 2]

Chapter Text

Mystify shifted slightly, flexing her claws. She glanced into the bag of candy, now only holding about three left, and scrunched her nose.

“Quick,” she said to her friend. “What number am I thinking of?”

Hummingbird looked unimpressed at her. “No.”

Mystify pouted. “How else do we decide who gets the third honey mango?”

The Rainwing snorted. “Simple.” the dragonet nonchalantly grabbed into the bag and lifted one of the candies into his mouth. “Now we have two for each.”

Mystify dropped her jaw dramatically, which Hummingbird only returned with a smug grin. The Nightwing returned his attitude by shoving the last two mangoes into her mouth, much to the Rainwing’s dismay.

“Rude,” he joked. Mystify giggled.

The Nightwing’s ears twitch toward a noise that didn’t actually happen. She twisted her head behind the two dragonets, looking for something. Hummingbird cocked his head, confused, before realizing what it must’ve been; a sound vision.

Sometimes, Mystify would be given visions but without the, you know, vision. She’d hear something that was supposedly meant to happen, which could get confusing when she’d get multiple visions at once.

“What? What was it?” Hummingbird asked slowly.

Mystify was still in a dazed state, staring blankly toward the empty forest behind them. A moment later, the Nightwing blinked and shook her head. She rubbed the side of her head, groaning softly.

“You alright?” The other dragonet asked, calmly resting a talon on her shoulder. Mystify glanced up at him.

“Yeah,” she replied. “It wasn’t too important. I hope.”

Hummingbird pursed his lips.  “That doesn’t sound too promising.”

You don’t sound too promising!” Mystify giggled as she poked her best friend’s snout. Hummingbird squeaked protestingly, swatting at her claw. The two shared a giggle before Mystify’s ear flicked again. This time, Hummingbird did as well.

The two turned in the same direction Mystify had before, holding their breaths. Finally, they let out a shared exhale when a familiar Nightwing appeared in the bushes.

“Hello, Peacemaker,” Mystify said politely.

Peacemaker smiled softly, nodding toward the dragonet. “Hello, Mystify. Hummingbird.” The Rainwing shared the same smile and nod, despite his uneasy shifting. “My apologies, did I scare you two?”

“No,” Mystify shook her head, nudging Hummingbird slightly with her wing. “Why exactly were you hiding out in the bushes?”

Peacemaker chuckled. “I was looking for my daughter. You haven’t seen Mayseeker anywhere, have you?”

The dragonets exchanged a glance before shaking their heads. Peacemaker sighed. He walked in between the two, lightly rubbing their shoulders with his wings. “Well, thank you. Have fun, you two.”

Mystify waved before turning to Hummingbird, who still looked nervous. When Peacemaker was out of earshot, she leaned toward him. “Hey, I know you’re worried because of what your parents told you, but Qibli assures that there is no possible way for Darkstalker to reappear.”

Hummingbird flinched at the name, which caused Mystify to quickly comfort him with her wing. The Rainwing moved into her embrace, laying his head on her shoulder.

“I know,” he said. “It’s still a fear of mine.”

The Nightwing rubbed her wing against him. “I know, but I’ll be here no matter what happens.”

“Excuse me,” a new voice spoke in front of the dragonets, which was another Nightwing, causing them to quickly sit up. “Are you Mystify?”

Mystify nodded slowly. The other Nightwing smiled.

“Hello, Mystify. I’m Moonwatcher. And Queen Glory requests you.”

Chapter 5: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 3]

Notes:

I'm stupid. I posted chapter 2 as this one

Chapter Text

Mystify gaped, blinking wide-eyed. “ Queen Glory… requests me?” She repeated. “And she sent you, Top Seer Moonwatcher, to come get me?”

Moonwatcher chuckled. “Seems so. Your friend can come as well, there won’t be anything he doesn’t already know.”

Hummingbird stared, confused. “I’m sorry?”

“It doesn’t matter right now,” Moonwatcher waved her wing dismissively. “The Queen needs you, Mystify.”

Mystify noticed the worry in Moonwatcher’s voice. Hesitantly, she nodded. The adult smiled and opened her wings, beckoning the other two to follow her.

As they flew toward Royal Pavilion, Hummingbird was giving Mystify worried glances. “Queen Glory doesn’t request just anyone, this must be important.” The other dragonet nodded, sharing the same unease.

Moonwatcher could already see the future, and read minds, so why did the Queen need Mystify of all dragons? The seer glanced behind her to the dragonets a moment, like she wanted to say something, but just turned away as they neared the pavilion.

“Oh thank the moons, Moon,” Glory said tensely as the three landed down. She sent a confused look to Hummingbird, which Moonwatcher explained.

“He’s her best friend,” she said softly. “And he already knows.”

“Know what?” Hummingbird said, somewhat hotly. Mystify smacked him with her tail.

Queen Glory sighed, rubbing her snout. “It’s…complicated. You two know that Moon can read minds, correct?”

The dragonets nodded.

“Well, she was able to see the visions Mystify was having,” she continued. Mystify looked puzzled. Yeah, lots of mind-reading dragons were, her father was one of them, but why was it so important to Moon?

“Because I know Clearsight,” Moon replied to Mystify’s thoughts, which startled her slightly. She apologized quickly before continuing, “I had Darkstalker in my head for months. And was basically his best friend when he was released. I can recognize enhanced foresight compared to others.”

Mystify tensed. Oh. Oh. Hummingbird gave her a wide-eyed look, which she returned.

“But…why did you need me?” she asked hesitantly.

Moon and Glory exchanged looks, before sighing. “Over the past few years, there’s been lots of worrying…situations.”

“Like?” Humminbird quizzed. Mystify hit him again for his sassy demeanor.

“Queen Snowfall has warned us about someone she had exiled,” Glory spoke. “Someone dangerous who has come in contact with a few other royals.”

“What’s that got to do with Mystify?” Hummingbird was noticeably irritated. Mystify glared at him.

Moon shifted uncomfortably. Glory spoke for her, “the dragon she had exiled…spoke about reviving Darkstalker.”

Hummingbird froze, his scales turning a bright white. He and Mystify’s jaws dropped, staring wide-eyed at the Queen and her seer. Instinctively, the Nightwing tangled her and Hummingbird’s tails, holding on tightly to each other.

“...what?” She spoke slowly. Glory shifted her gaze.

“Mystify,” the queen said as she approached the dragonet. “You have a power no dragon has seen in over two thousand years. Our tribes need you.”

The Rainwing placed her talons around the Nightwing’s. Hummingbird continued staring wide-eyed. “For once I’m asking for a prophecy. Or at least something to tell us if Darkstalker returning is even a possibility. Moon and her friends say there isn’t…but you have the ability to confirm it.”

Mystify was trembling. She stared into the queen’s eyes, which showed genuine fear and anguish. The Nightwing looked down, trying to control her breathing. She felt Hummingbird’s wing fall over her shoulder and his grip on her tail tightened. She squeezed Glory’s talons and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.

For once, Mystify forced herself to look into her visions. Clearsight studied her mind, Mystify tried to steer away from it. It was frightening, to say the least, and she hated purposefully looking for bad futures.

Now she was being asked to deliver a prophecy? Moons, this was going great.

Mystify gasped out a shaky breath, her eyes staying shut. Hummingbird tightened his wing around her, rubbing her scales lightly. She could hear his heartbeat, it was racing even faster than hers.

She searched her mind, shaking at every new thing she saw. She couldn’t move despite the tears rolling past her snout. Hummingbird loosened slightly, asking if Mystify was alright. But she couldn’t answer.

Thousands of outcomes passed through her mind, many of them showing Mystify’s parents or Hummingbird dying. She was shivering and sobbing and wanted to stop but was too deep in her own mindscape now.

Clearsight studied her visions, she knew how to see them peacefully. But Mystify never looked at her prophecies the same way Clearsight had. She never had to search through them.

“Mystify?! Mystify–is she going to be alright?” Hummingbird asked anxiously. Mystify could feel Glory’s talons shaking in her own.

A light purple Icewing erupted into the dragonet’s mind, a smaller one looking just like her was beside her. The adult looked malicious. The dragonet looked scared. Mystify felt herself shivering as the Icewing approached her supposedly daughter, a long smile across her face. The vision passed just as the dragon lifted her serrated claws.

She saw Jade Mountain. She saw Possibility. She saw Pantala. She saw a dragon trapped in stone.

Finally, something she was looking for came. The face of what she figured was Darkstalker based on the scrolls she read, turned toward her. Or—where she would be. The same Icewing was smiling next to him, content.

Mystify gasped loudly, knocking the queen and Hummingbird off of her, and seizing her head. Her breath was shaky and her heart was racing.

“Three moons,” Glory said. “I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”

“Does she look alright?!” Hummingbird snapped. Glory paused but did not look angry at the Rainwing.

“Returns the king of darkness,” Mystify let out. The other three dragons looked at her. “Remember where it began.”

“Beware the queen who wishes death,” Moonwatcher continued, slowly pacing toward the dragonet. Mystify looked up at her, slightly loosening her grip on her skull.

“And all who follow her plans,” they said in unison. Hummingbird and Queen Glory stared wide-eyed at them.

Mystify continued, keeping eye contact with Moon. “Search for the dragon who crawls, listen to the dragon who wonders, remember the dragon in the sand, protect the amethyst that’s to be plundered.”

“Look far beyond and far behind,” Moon said for her. “Before the final dawn. She who sees and he who wishes–”

“Will reawaken magic before the tribes are gone,” Mystify finished. She was still shaking, but felt Moonwatcher’s hands on hers.

“Those visions were terrifying,” the seer said. Mystify nodded. “Sorry, I was sort of snooping, but as soon as you started crying I couldn’t let you go through it alone.”

Mystify smiled weakly. Hummingbird wrapped his arms and wings around his best friend. “Thank moons it’s over.”

“Not quite,” Glory said sadly. “That was a prophecy. The first prophecy in fifty years. You saw Darkstalker didn’t you?”

The Nightwing looked at the queen and hesitantly nodded. Hummingbird turned a sickly white again. He tightened his grip on her.

“You’ve done enough,” the queen continued. “Please, return to your homes. Get some rest.”

She paused her gaze on Hummingbird. “...you’re Kinkajou’s son, aren’t you?”

The dragonet nodded reluctantly. Glory sighed. “Tell her and Turtle I need to have a meeting with them. We will figure out this prophecy.”

As the dragonets were leaving the pavilion, another vision came to Mystify. The purple Icewing with her sinister smile.

“Hello, Mystify.”

Chapter 6: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 4]

Chapter Text

The Nightwing swerved, running into a few branches before she regained her momentum. Hummingbird looked at her surprised.

“Rebounds?” He asked. Mystify shook her head.

“No, a vision. Or a message. I can’t tell.” She rubbed her temples. “Someone spoke to me. They said my name. But…it wasn’t a good feeling. It made me feel… scared.”

Hummingbird brushed his wing against her as they started nearing his own little hut. She smiled weakly at him. He returned it. Even if they gave each other fake smiles, this wasn’t something they could ignore; a prophecy had been delivered, Darkstalker had a possibility of returning, something about magic?

As they landed on the porch, Kinkajou was peeling a pineapple inside. She turned her head toward the noise and smiled at the dragonets. “Welcome home, Hummingbird! Hello, Mystify.”

“Hi, Miss,” the Nightwing waved shyly. While Mystify was more than comfortable when it came to Hummingbird, his parents were a different story. She wasn’t scared of them, but they were a part of a prophecy before, plus were technically royalty.

“What’s with the long face?” The RainWing asked kindly as she paused what she was doing. Hummingbird shifted.

“Queen Glory needs you and dad to meet with her.”

Kinkajou’s eyes widened. “Did she tell you that?” she chuckled lightly.

The dragonets nodded. The woman’s face fell slightly. “Oh,” was all she said. She lifted her talons and stood up. She sighed, “well, alright. Your father just went out to the shops. I’ll go find him.”

She walked past them, giving them worried glances before taking off. They were alone.

Mystify thought about the prophecy, repeating it over and over in her head. Returns the king of darkness… that must be referring to Darkstalker. Beware the queen who wishes death… that seemed to stump Mystify; from what she’s heard about all the queens, none of them seemed to be malicious. Maybe an ex-queen? Wasp? Scarlet or Battlewinner from the dead?

The Nightwing stared at her talons, biting her lip as she thought. Hummingbird peered at her.

“Hey, Queen Glory will handle it,” he said softly. She didn’t look at him. He frowned.

“‘Forget not the princes of water’,” she repeated aloud. Hummingbird scrunched his brows.

“Well, my dad’s a prince of water,” he replied. “Must be him.”

Mystify shook her head. “No…”

The Rainwing nudged her, trying to get her to look at him. He had never seen her this worried about a vision, and he’d seen her worried about lots of visions.

“I think…” she finally looked up at him. “It’s talking about you.”

Chapter 7: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 5]

Chapter Text

“Buh–duh–wha?!” Hummingbird stammered, taken aback. “ Me? Why would I be in a prophecy??”

“Because I saw you,” Mystify replied. “You were in my vision. You and some others. You were in the vision after Darkstalker.”

Hummingbird looked confused and worried. “But–but I–”

“Hummingbird.” Mystify took his talons in hers. “I’m scared, too, terrified. I…I saw you die.”

The Rainwing’s scales turned slightly green. The other squeezed his hands tighter. “I saw you die so many times. In ways I can’t describe, from old age, from poison…I’m so afraid to lose you.”

Mystify placed Hummingbird’s hands against her forehead, a few stray tears falling down her cheeks. Her best friend pressed his own head against hers. They shared shaky breaths, silence overwhelming them. Finally, the seer spoke.

“The first thing I saw in my vision was Jade Mountain. I think that’s where I need to go first.”

“Where we need to go first,” Hummingbird replied, hitting her on the snout with his wing. “If I can’t convince you to stay out of it, I’m coming with you. You’re not getting right of me that easily.”

Mystify chuckled. “I hope not.” She leaned her head against his again before letting go of his hands. She gave a weak smile to him before replying, “then we better get a move on.”

“What about our parents?”

“Leave them a message,” Mystify replied easily. “Just…something like: ‘I’m off saving the world!’”

“That’s stupid.”

“You’re stupid.”

Hummingbird swat at the NightWing, who fought back. “Oh, quit it, I don’t want our families to be left with nothing. At least let them know we didn’t evaporate.”

“But they’ll come looking for us.”

“They’ll come looking for us no matter what we do. Just do a quick little note here since your parents aren’t around. I know at least one of mine will be at my house so just say we’re both on an adventure.”

Hummingbird grumbled before trudging into another room and coming back with a quill and scroll. He placed the paper on the floor in front of him and began scribbling down the message. He ended it with a small smiley face at the end, resulting in a slight snort from Mystify.

“Ok, it’s done,” the hybrid said. “...which way’s Jade Mountain?”

“All I know is it’s West.”

“I thought NightWings were the smart tribe?”

“I will hit you.”

Mystify closed her eyes lightly as she continued guiding her and her friend toward the mountain.

“Why didn’t you use your future-seeing for when we got lost that one time?” Hummingbird said as he flew beside her. She opened her eyes to look at him.

“Where’s the fun in that?”

“We almost died.”

“No we did not.”

The dragonets continued until they recognized the large peak of the Jade Mountain. They grinned at each other and began racing toward the hillside.

When they landed, Hummingbird dramatically laid in the courtyard grass. “Oh FINALLY. I’ve missed the grass so much.”

Mystify giggled. “Get up, weirdo. We didn’t come here to sunbathe.”

“But I missed suntime!” He whined. Mystify rolled her eyes.

“You don’t even need it,” she said as she poked him. He opened one of his eyes and pouted. “I can go in alone if you’d rather.”

That seemed to get Hummingbird to stand up. “Absolutely not. We die together.”

Mystify laughed before walking toward what she believed to be the entrance. The dragons gazed around at the cave, surprised at how delicate the tunnel was crafted. They continued forward until Hummingbird hit a rock that bounced around on the wall.

“Shhh!” Mystify hissed.

“Who’s there?” A voice said from a room just a bit ahead. “If you’re trying to sneak up on me…”

The dragonets slowly peered into the room, finding a large library. Mystify gasped and Hummingbird hit her on the head. Behind a desk was a large yet slender NightWing with a white bandana over his eyes.

“If you’re trying to steal scrolls again, Angel–”

“Uhm…no, sir,” Mystify said softly, strolling lightly into the room. The NightWing jumped slightly. “We’re…we’re new here.”

“Oh? I didn’t hear we were getting any new students?” He began tidying up his desk a bit, delicately rolling one of his scrolls back up. The RainWing and NightWing gave each other glances.

“We’re actually visiting,” Hummingbird replied.

Turtle?” The librarian breathed. The hybrid froze, his fluorescent scales lightly up slightly.

“Uh– no, sir. His son, actually.” Mystify hit him in the side with her wing and gave him a stern look.

Really? Amazing! How’s he doing? Is he alright?”

Hummingbird shifted. “Uh– yeah…yeah, he’s doing fine.”

“What’re you doing here, then?”

The RainWing looked at Mystify, waiting for her to respond. She thought a moment, flexing her claws slightly. She held her breath for a second before responding, “we’ve come to take a look around the school. We…want to join?”

Mystify hoped the NightWing didn’t notice the unsureness in her voice and more importantly, that he couldn’t read minds. The man sat in silence a moment before smiling.

“Of course,” he nodded. “Just make sure not to take any of the scrolls, I may not be able to see but I’ll know if one of them is missing.” He chuckled.

Mystify and Hummingbird thanked him and walked out of the room. They let out an in-sync sigh of relief as they continued. The NightWing had them pause as they heard more voices and she started rubbing her temples. She found a SandWing hybrid sitting in what Mystify assumed to be the history room.

“That way,” she pointed when she opened her eyes again. Hummingbird nodded.

The dragonets hesitantly peered into the cave, finding a teaching lesson going on. Mystify bit her lip, should they interrupt? Should they wait? Should they just sneak in? She gazed around the room and found the same SandWing from her vision.

The dragon perked slightly, and turned over her shoulder to look at the entrance. She widened her eyes at the dragons, giving them a look. The dragonets squeaked and quickly ducked away.

“That’s one of the dragons I saw in my vision,” she whispered.

“Excuse me, you two,” a new voice said. Mystify and Hummingbird squealed and turned around abruptly, almost hitting the stranger with their wings. “What’re you doing here? In the halls?”

The dragonets shared glances, waiting for the other to speak up. Finally, another voice interrupted them. Mystify looked surprised at the dragon who came behind the other, though not too surprised as she had a suspicion someone would turn up.

“They’re friends of mine,” the SandWing hybrid from class said. Hummingbird shared a wide-eyed look with Mystify. The teacher cocked a brow before shrugging.

“Alright, don’t be long now.” And with that, he walked down the tunnel toward another classroom. The student stared at the other two, a slight glare on.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” She snarled. Mystify noticed Hummingbird gulp next to her. She paused. “You knew I would say that…”

Mystify looked surprised, widening her eyes slightly. “I…guess? That was one possible situation. I didn’t necessarily count on it, I was wanting the nice, guides us around response.”

The SandWing-NightWing furrowed her brows. She gazed upon the dragonets a moment, making them sit in uncomfortable silence. She rubbed a talon between her eyes. “Alright, this is weird. I can’t hear his thoughts but I can hear yours.”

Hummingbird gave Mystify a look. The student glanced behind her before walking past the two.

“Come with me, let’s get out of here before we get scolded.”

Chapter 8: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 6]

Chapter Text

“Where are we going?” Hummingbird quizzed. “And who are you?”

“Sidewinder,” she replied bluntly. Mystify almost flinched at how quick it was. “I’m taking you to my dorm. If the skittish NightWing is having this many thoughts at once, while many include me, this is something we should probably talk about.”

Mystify widened her eyes and gave a glance to her best friend. They came to the same conclusion: she must be a mindreader. However, she said she could only read Mystify’s mind, which puzzled her.

They entered a small-ish room which was covered in multiple different scrolls littering the floor and two average-sized beds on each side. Mystify stepped around the papers carefully, noting the desk covered in ink. Sidewinder nonchalantly sat on the bed covered in animal pelts.

“Alright,” she said. “Spill it. Who are you and why are you here?”

The dragonets froze for a second. Mystify shifted uncomfortably, looking down at her talons. “I had a vision…that included Jade Mountain. We came to investigate.”

Sidewinder tilted her head. “Did it include me? Because from what I see, it does.”

Mystify glanced away nervously. “Y…yes.”

Sidewinder sighed and massaged her snout. “Cool, great, awesome.”

The NightWing’s ear flicked toward the door without any sound being heard. She stared at it a moment while the other two looked at her confused. Then, the doorknob wiggled. In came a giddy RainWing with bright pink scales.

“Sidewinder! I was able to convince Starflight–” She paused and stared wide-eyed at the two dragonets in her room. She blinked and looked over to the hybrid on her bed, who shrugged. “Uh…hi!” She waved awkwardly.

“Is that another scroll?” Sidewinder asked, ignoring the other two. Mystify noted how her voice became much brighter talking to her.

“Uh-huh!” The RainWing said happily.  “He got a few new ones but I’m on restrictions from taking anymore than one until I return all of these.” She gestured vaguely toward the scrolls on the floor. “Oh! I’m sorry, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Angel.”

“Mystify,” the NightWing replied. “And this is Hummingbird–”

She flinched, her eyes widening. Hummingbird instinctively lifted his claw toward her. Mystify saw Angel with a ripped wing and a terrified expression. She was shivering. She was on top of cracking ice.

The NightWing blinked rapidly and held her head.

“Woah,” Angel said. “What was that?”

“A vision,” Hummingbird replied flatly. Sidewinder pursed her lips.

“I couldn’t see that one, what was it?”

“Nothing,” Mystify said hesitantly. “Nothing to worry about.”

Hummingbird frowned. She gave him a look to drop it, and he obliged. She turned toward the other dragons in the room.

“I’m sure this is probably the last thing you wanted to hear,” the NightWing started. “But I think…you might be kind of sort of involved in a prophecy.”

Chapter 9: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 7]

Chapter Text

Sidewinder shot up to her feet, yelling a loud “WHAT?” while Angel dropped her scroll and gaped. Mystify and Hummingbird gave them both awkward grins.

Prophecy?!” Sidewinder screamed. “Prophecies haven’t been delivered in over fifty years! And now we’re apart of one?! Regular dragons attending school?!”

“I don’t wanna be apart of it just as much as you,” Hummingbird replied.

“Why can’t we just not help?” The SandWing-NightWing said hotly. Angel gave her a look.

Mystify frowned. “I guess you could…

“At least hear it first!” Hummingbird snarled. Mystify smacked him. He had always been the more stern and straightforward one while Mystify was the dragon-pleaser.

Sidewinder huffed but shared a glance with Angel. She gave her a nod and a kind smile. The hybrid sighed in defeat, rubbing her snout. She huffed a “fine” which caused Mystify to grin.

The RainWing walked toward the SandWing, sitting next to her bed. Mystify noticed the look Sidewinder gave her, and she smiled. The NightWing cleared her throat and sat down.

As she repeated the prophecy she had delivered to Queen Glory, she noticed Angel shivering and Sidewinder’s brows knit together. The hybrid seemed to be repeating the words in her head, tapping her claw as she listened.

“‘Remember the dragon in the sand’,” Angel repeated. “Is that referring to you?” She turned to the dragon on the bed. Sidewinder widened her eyes.

“What?! I mean–MAYBE–but it could be referring to any dragon! Maybe it’s not even a SandWing!” Mystify noted the slight panic in her voice.

“Maybe it’s referring to Princess Sunny,” Hummingbird suggested. “I mean, she was a part of another prophecy, right? Even if it was fake.”

Mystify shook her head. “No, she wasn’t a part of any of my visions. You and she were.”

Sidewinder stiffened, she looked worried. Angel piped up, “well, even if I wasn’t a part of your visions, I’m coming with her.”

The dragons looked at the RainWing, Sidewinder blinking. Mystify saw her lips twitch as she fought a smile. She sighed before replying, “alright. Guess I can be a hero.”

Mystify beamed. “Oh thank the moons. I thought we came here for no reason.”

Angel giggled and wrapped Sidewinder in a hug. “This’ll be awesome! Let’s do this! Let’s go solve a prophecy!”

TW FOR IMPLIED CHILD DEATH AND MURDER

Chapter Text

“Aren’t you gonna get in trouble?” Hummingbird asked cautiously as the four strolled toward the exit.

Angel waved a talon. “Nah, this is like a regular thing for me. The staff just have to make sure I leave a note or something so they know I wasn’t kidnapped or something.”

Mystify and Hummingbird shared a glance. “And…what did you put on the note?”

“That we’re helping two lost dragonets find their way to the Rainforest. Should be convincing enough. If not…well, there’s not much we can do.”

The NightWing didn’t like how nonchalant that was. But, they were helping her and Hummingbird. So there wasn’t much to complain about.

“Your thoughts are a lot quieter now,” Sidewinder said. Mystify jumped. “Weird that you’re the only person I can hear right now.”

“Yeah,” Angel agreed. “Can’t you only really hear thoughts that are directed at you?”

“Well, most of them are,” Sidewinder shrugged. “But it’s as if you guys don’t have thoughts at all.”

“Not wrong about that,” Mystify said, nudging Hummingbird with her wing. “He sure doesn’t.”

Excuse you!” The RainWing squealed. Mystify giggled. She heard Sidewinder make a noise. “Was that…a CHUCKLE I heard?”
The hybrid turned around, glaring. Mystify gave her a cheeky grin.

The group made their way into the open field of Jade Mountain. The two oldest turned around to face the dragonets.

“So…where to?” Angel asked, opening her wings.

Mystify paused a moment, looking down as she thought. “I believe…Possibility.”

The other two dragons nodded. Hummingbird leaned toward his best friend, whispering, “which way’s that again?”

The NightWing snorted and gestured for him to follow her. He obliged and the dragons took off, Mystify leading the way.

“So like,” Angel sparked conversation while the group took a break on the outskirts of the Sand Kingdom. “What exactly’s the deal with you two? Wait, that sounded mean, I meant-”

Mystify waved a talon, chuckling. “No, no, you’re fine. And to put it simply: we’re besties.”

The NightWing wrapped her wing around the RainWing hybrid next to her, who was more interested in the orange he was peeling than the conversation. He yelped slightly at suddenly being wrapped to her side.

Sidewinder smiled slightly. “And he came with you for this prophecy?”

Hummingbird glanced up at her. “Obviously.” Mystify rolled her eyes at his demeanor.

She put a hand out toward the RainWing, who handed her a slice of the orange without question. While Angel ranted on, the NightWing rubbed her temples. She saw a lot of SandWings, most of which were in what Mystify figured was the Scorpion Den. She saw a few dragons in Possibility and a few back in the rainforest.

Sidewinder seemed to scrunch her snout and lightly rubbed her own temples.

“Geez, NightWing,” she groaned. “How do you live with this?”

Mystify was taken aback again and blinked. She chuckled slightly as she registered what she said. “It’s honestly pretty hard,” she shrugged. “But I’ve managed to cope with it.”

Angel tilted her head curiously. “So…you’re like a mini Clearsight!”

Mystify snorted at that. Hummingbird seemed to freeze a moment. The NightWing shifted on her talons slightly and shrugged again.

“I guess…but I don’t think I’m related to her. She had no NightWing dragonets and as far as I know I don’t have any HiveWing ancestors so.”

“Interesting to think about,” the pink RainWing smiled. Mystify nodded.

“Are you really already opening up to them?” Hummingbird leaned toward his best friend and whispered. The NightWing scrunched her snout at him, which he returned.

“Quit being rude,” she nudged him. He huffed but turned away.

Sidewinder gave him a look but stayed silent. While Angel was talking about one of her scrolls, Mystify’s head began to ache. She lifted a talon to her temple and began massaging it. She closed her eyes lightly as a vision came to her.

In the Sea Kingdom an IceWing walked through the Summer Palace. She walked silently, stalking toward the queen like she was her prey. But she flicked her gaze toward the two dragonets near her.

Mystify gasped loudly as she watched the children become brutally murdered in broad daylight. The other three dragons looked at her. The NightWing tried looking for another outcome, the most likely to happen. But that was it. That was the only vision she could see.

“The Sea Kingdom,” she said frantically. “I need to get to the Sea Kingdom.”

Chapter 11: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 9]

Chapter Text

Hummingbird raced beside his best friend, whose brows were knit with worry. “Mystify, what’s going on?! What did you see?!”

He tried to hide it but Mystify could tell that he was afraid, too. They were his family after all, even if he never really knew them well. The other two dragons flew behind them, staring with their brows together. Sidewinder’s stoic and cold expression seemed to have changed to a much more worried looking one.

Mystify opened her mouth to reply but she found nothing came out. Every vision ended the same: the queen is assassinated, her kids are assassinated, or all three of them were. The only vision where they weren’t…was one where Mystify showed up.

“Queen Anemone is in danger,” she replied. The other dragons looked at her surprised. Hummingbird slowed in the air as he stared at his best friend.

“What do you mean Queen Anemone’s in danger?!” Sidewinder snapped. Mystify swiveled her head to look at her.

She bit her lip nervously, feeling her talons twitch. She didn’t stop flying as she didn’t want to slow their travel and be too late. Instead, the NightWing looked back at the other dragons and gave them a look.

“There’s an assassination ploy. The only outcome that saves the royal family is if we show up.”

The other dragons slowed, staring in disbelief. Mystify tried to ignore them. She had one objective: save the SeaWing queen. She flapped her wings harder, hearing the other three struggling to keep up behind her.

“How long do we have?” Angel asked hurriedly.

Mystify slowed down slightly, but didn’t stop, and placed a talon on her head. She lightly closed her eyes and searched through the outcomes.

“Two days,” she said.

Sidewinder groaned. “It’ll take two days to GET THERE! And not to mention the fact we’ll have to go over the Mud Kingdom!”

“It won’t if we hurry,” Hummingbird said quickly. Mystify noticed the shakiness in his voice.

“If we take short breaks we’d get there with half a day to spare,” Angel said, just behind Sidewinder. The SandWing looked at her, surprised.

Sidewinder sighed and rubbed a talon across her face. “Alright. But if we get arrested by the MudWings then I’m blaming you guys.”

Mystify flapped her wings tiredly; the group hadn’t slept the entire trip and barely rested. Angel’s colors seemed to have dulled and Hummingbird was growing slow. Sidewinder still stayed close to Angel, but she was clearly just as exhausted.

“How much closer are we?” The pink RainWing asked.

Mystify looked down and found they were crossing one of the many Human Settlements. She glanced back up and saw a few MudWings flying in the distance. She smiled to herself.

“We’re almost to the Mud Kingdom. We should get to the Sea Kingdom borders by this afternoon.”

Sidewinder let out a loud groan. She dropped slightly, causing Angel to panic for a moment.

“We better actually save the royal family,” the hybrid growled.

Hummingbird bit his lip. Mystify tried giving him a comforting nudge. He looked at her, giving a small smile. The NightWing returned the expression.

“Halt!” A MudWing guard blocked the group’s path. Angel and Sidewinder nearly ran into the dragonets in front of them.

“You’re quite an odd group, aren’t you?” The guard said. “What’s your business flying over?”

“We’re trying to get to the Kingdom of the Sea,” Hummingbird replied hurriedly.

The MudWing scrunched his snout. “You are quite young, aren’t you?”

Mystify flexed her talons and nodded. “We are. But this fella,” she gestured toward Hummingbird. “Is actually one of Queen Anemone’s nephews.”

“The RainWing,” the guard didn’t look convinced. Mystify frowned.

“Open your wings,” she said to her best friend.

Hummingbird obliged, flexing his wings more and lighting up his fluorescent scales. The MudWing tapped a claw on the spear he was wielding. He pursed his lips and looked at each of the dragons. Mystify’s tail twitched nervously and impatiently.

“Alright,” he huffed. “But you’re not advised to fly right over the palace boundaries.”

Mystify nodded. That’d be just a couple hours lost, if they pick up the pace while they go around they should make it in time.

“Understood, thank you, sir.”

The two shared a nod before the NightWing dragonet flew to the right.

“That went better than expected,” Angel said easily from behind.

“I saw that conversation,” Mystify replied simply. “While we were getting closer to the border.”

“Huh,” Sidewinder said. “Nice.”

The dragonet felt herself smiling at the brooding dragon’s compliment.

Chapter 12: Disturbance of the Peace [Chapter 10]

Chapter Text

They arrived at the Bay of a Thousand Scales in the late afternoon. They were all panting heavily and their wings were dropped to the sand. Angel ended up collapsing on the ground, heaving loudly. Hummingbird was quick to jump in the water coming up on the shore.

“Being in the sun is a lot less relaxing when you’re not sleeping,” Angel groaned. Sidewinder put her head over the other’s head.

Mystify laid down for a moment, her entire body sore. She had told the group they’d have time if they took a break at the Bay, and everyone held her to it. She couldn’t blame them, they had been flying for a day and a half straight.

She moved her tongue around in her mouth, feeling how dry it was. She looked up at the sun making its way down from the sky, pursing her lips.

“We have a few hours,” she said suddenly. Angel lifted her head.

“Moons,” Sidewinder groaned. “Queen Anemone better let us rest at her palace.”

“She will,” Hummingbird said, walking out of the water. “Especially if I’m her nephew.”

Angel stood up, wincing, before asking, “in your vision, is she at the Island Palace or the Sea one?”

Mystify turned to her. “Island. The assassin wasn’t a SeaWing, so it wouldn’t make sense for the plot to happen under water anyway.”

Angel nodded. “Let’s go.”

The NightWing nodded back, opened her wings, and took off into the sky again. The other dragons followed shortly after, exhaustion very apparent on their faces.

The group flew and flew and flew, their muscles screaming at them, trying to tell them to take a break. But they couldn’t afford that. If they truly wanted to save the SeaWing Royal Family, they had to persevere. It was torture, of course, but Mystify was determined.

Everyone didn’t speak for the rest of the time, not wanting to waste anymore energy. It was about two hours of silence and the dusk light was beginning to appear. Mystify picked up the pace when they finally saw the rebuilt Island Palace.

When Anemone became queen, she ordered for the land palace to be rebuilt. It was much harder and took more time without an animus, but it was rebuilt just as she wished. Mystify always wanted to see it, having been described as even more beautiful than how it was originally. The descriptions were right, at least to the dragonet (as she had never seen it before it was destroyed), but it was hard to admire it when they were on their way to stop an assassination plot.

They started descending, SeaWing guards straightening and gripping their spears. They glanced at the group before looking at each other.

“We need to see the queen,” Mystify said, out of breath. She hadn’t had time to see how this conversation should go, she was far too exhausted, so she just hoped for the best.

The guards scrunched their snouts. “And why should we let you?” One of them snarled.

Hummingbird straightened his neck, walking past Mystify and staring at the dragons. He opened his wings and let them glow enough to be clearly seen.

“Because her nephew has come for a visit.”

The guards’ eyes widened and their jaws opened ever so slightly. They bowed their heads despite him being a hybrid, and moved out of the way for him to pass. He nodded back at them and flicked his tail for the other three to follow.

“Huh,” Sidewinder breathed. “Lucky we have him.”

Mystify held back a snort as she followed her best friend. Once they were out of earshot from the entrance guards, Hummingbird relaxed.

“Now what?” He turned to his friend.

“WHAT?!” Sidewinder basically yelled. “You mean you don’t know where to go?!”

“I’ve never been here!” He snapped back. Mystify opened her wings to cut the two off.

“Shut it,” she snarled. “I know where she is. She’s at her throne.”

The two dragons shut their mouths, pretending like they hadn’t just argued, and followed Mystify through the halls. She paused a few times, using her visions to judge which way to go.

Finally, they made it to an opening at the top of the palace, where Queen Anemone sat speaking to one of her generals. Her two dragonets sat on slightly smaller thrones next to her, trying to copy her posture.

“We could’ve flown up here,” Angel whispered.

“Shut,” Mystify whispered back. She glanced around the platform. “They’re hiding. They’re waiting for the general to leave.”

“Then we better move now,” Sidewinder said. Mystify agreed.

“YOUR MAJESTY!” The NightWing yelled, running out onto the platform. Queen Anemone jumped and whipped her head around, her children and general doing the same.

“Excuse me?!” She said.

“Please just listen,” Mystify pleaded. Anemone wrinkled her nose and shared a glance with her general. She huffed.

“Whatever could possibly be this important for a NightWing, SandWing, and two RainWings to come to me?”

Hummingbird took a step forward. He bowed slightly.

“I am Hummingbird, son of Prince Turtle. We’ve come to save you.”

Anemone’s eyes widened. She walked off her throne and walked closer to her nephew. She placed a talon on his chin and gently lifted his head to look at her. She inspected him quietly, causing Mystify tense.

Finally, the queen gasped softly and let go of the dragonet’s face.

“Hummingbird!” Suddenly, the hybrid was wrapped in a hug, wings embracing him. “My brother said you wouldn’t be visiting for another week! It’s so good to meet you!”

Hummingbird, taken aback, smiled nervously. “Haha, nice to meet you too, aunt Anemone.”

The dragon smiled brighter at being called “aunt”. She let go of her nephew and beckoned her children over. Mystify smiled but didn’t let her guard down. Sidewinder was still glancing around the place, trying to see any suspicious dragons.

“Hurricane, Twilight, meet your cousin,” the queen said.

Two dragonets younger than Mystify and Hummingbird came walking hesitantly toward them. One was a deep, dark blue with faint lighter scales fading into her underbelly. The other was almost an exact copy of Queen Anemone with his pale scales and pink underscales.

“This is Hurricane,” Anemone nodded at the boy matching her. She turned to the other side of her, toward the darker dragon. “This is Twilight.”

The princess smiled at the group. “Pleasure to meet you.”

“What do you mean you came to save us?” Hurricane said suddenly. Anemone looked down at him.

The group froze a moment and Mystify flexed her talons. She held her breath a moment before finally letting herself breathe and took a step forward.

The NightWing bowed as she spoke. “Your Majesty, I apologize for such an interruption but I was given a vision. A vision including you and your children’s deaths.”

Anemone paled and instinctively opened her wings to shield her son and daughter. Mystify sucked in another breath.

“Not only that, but I also delivered a prophecy.”

The queen seemed to flinch at the word, like it was a drop of poison dropped in front of her. Her children stared wide-eyed at the dragonet.

“Prophecies haven’t been delivered in over fifty years. However, if you are to come all this way just to warn me of such a vision, I will hear you out.”

Mystify nodded gratefully as she stood back up. “Thank you, your Grace.”

Chapter 13: Part 1: Disturbance of Peace [Chapter 11]

Chapter Text

Queen Anemone bit her lip as she paced back and forth. Her children were sitting back on their thrones, watching their mother with almost the same worried expression.

“Turtle warned me of this,” she said under her breath. She turned back toward the dragonets. “He said he was nearly killed by a single IceWing before his son hatched.”

Hummingbird’s breath hitched so Mystify wrapped her tail around his gently.

Guards were stationed around the entire area, watching for any glimpse of an unauthorized dragon coming through. Princess Twilight and Prince Hurricane were visibly scared, trying to keep a straight posture.

The queen turned to Mystify, her brows knit together. The NightWing knew what she was going to say.

“They’re still here,” she said, trying to keep her voice level. Anemone held her breath.

“Dammit,” Sidewinder hissed. “If my mindreading wasn’t focusing all its attention on you I might’ve been able to find them.”

“Hey, don’t blame Mystify!” Hummingbird snapped.

The SandWing-NightWing blinked at the other hybrid, surprised. Her widened eyes turned into a small glare shortly after.

“I’m not blaming her! I’m blaming my weak power!”

“Aye,” Angel snarled in between them. “You two can argue as much as you want when we actually do what we came here for.”

Sidewinder opened her mouth to say something but closed it almost immediately after. Hummingbird turned away, still glaring. Guards sent the hybrids their own scowls but looked away after Anemone’s sharp gaze.

“Whoever’s here to kill me and my family, show yourself! There’s no point in waiting to fulfill your plans.”

Mystify felt a shiver down her spine. Someone was watching her and she knew who. She peered around, trying to catch a glimpse of an IceWing. Just a shimmer of white, claws cracking, something.

Something came to her. A vision. But it wasn’t an IceWing. It was a seashell chandelier cracking and plummeting down onto the pacing queen.

“YOUR MAJESTY!” The dragonet screamed. The queen turned, surprised. “MOVE!”

Queen Anemone heard the cracking of her chandelier and glanced up. She moved just in time before she was impaled by the narwhal horns and seashells. The guards yelped and ran toward their queen.

Anemone stared wide eyed at the broken chandelier on the ground. Her children ran to her side, holding onto her tightly.

Mystify doubled over, grasping her head. Hummingbird was quick to her aide. He crouched beside her, laying his wing over her back.

The same IceWing from her vision, the same IceWing who spoke to her after she delivered her prophecy.

“Goodbye, Mystify,” she snarled with a grin.

Just as quick as it came, it was gone. Mystify lifted her head, panting softly. Sidewinder and Angel were standing over them, worry staining their faces.

“What happened?” Angel asked cautiously.

Mystify lifted herself up steadily.

“They’re gone.”

“What do you mean they’re gone?” Hummingbird said.

Mystify turned to him. “They’re gone. They’re not here anymore.”

Anemone bit her lip. She barked an order at her soldiers and they started flying off. The NightWing found herself digging her claws into the quartz under her talons. She pulled her lips into a thin line as she looked up at the queen.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t find them, your Grace,” she bowed.

Queen Anemone lifted the dragonet’s chin. “You have nothing to be sorry about. You just saved my and my children’s lives.”

Mystify nodded slowly and took her head away.

“Pardon me for asking,” Sidewinder said suddenly. She bowed her head slightly. “But we’ve traveled very far to get here. May we take a night to rest here?”

“Of course! You have my nephew with you after all,” Anemone gave the group a kind smile. “Hurricane, will you lead them to the guest rooms?”

Prince Hurricane nodded, still clearly hesitant about what just happened. Angel seemed to notice this.

“Don’t worry. No one’s gonna get you. We’ll make sure of it.”

Hurricane smiled weakly before he began flying in a direction. The group followed him, holding back groans as their sore muscles were in use again.

He led them through a cave tunnel over a bit of water and into a large room decorated with blue carpets and tapestries.

A painting of the previous Queen Coral was mounted in between two SeaWing tapestries.

“Mother won’t admit it, but she still cares for my grandmother,” Hurricane said, gesturing to the painting.

Sidewinder walked past and sprawled out onto one of the beds in the far right corner. She stretched her wings and let out an exasperated sigh.

“Tell the queen we deeply appreciate it,” she said before almost immediately falling asleep.

Prince Hurricane wrinkled his snout.

“She’s not doing that out of disrespect,” Angel reassured. “She’s just exhausted.”

While the group walked to their own beds, Hurricane fidgeted in place. He looked at the entrance with a worried expression. Mystify paused before laying on her own bed. She took a few steps back toward the prince. He wasn’t that much shorter than her, but was a lot skinnier.

“I can check your future to make sure you won’t get harmed.”

Hurricane looked up at her and smiled gratefully. “Yes, please.”

Mystify smiled back before lightly closing her eyes. Nothing seemed to happen to the prince no matter if he was alone or not. She opened her eyes.

“Nothing will happen to you. Just go straight back to your mother.”

Prince Hurricane beamed. “Thank you.” He nodded and bounded out of the room.

The NightWing made her way to the bed next to Hummingbird, curled up, and finally rested.

The group departed from the Queen in the afternoon and began making their way back to Possibility.

“We’re not on a time limit, are we?” Angel asked.

Mystify shook her head. “Luckily, no. Not as far as I know, at least. It should be just Possibility for now.”

“Thank the moons,” Sidewinder groaned. Angel swat her wing at her.

They flew for a few hours, took a few breaks to eat, and landed not too far from the Claws of Clouds Mountains to rest.

Sidewinder stayed close to Angel, as usual, while Mystify sat across from them and the campfire. Hummingbird was asleep next to her, lying comfortably against her wing. She was staring at the dancing flames, exploring her visions.

Nothing interesting seemed to happen to them, at least at the moment. Until a familiar dragon came sneaking up on them, or more like joining them.

“Prince Hurricane?!” Mystify sat up quickly, making eye contact with a pale SeaWing.

“Shh!” The dragonet whispered hurriedly.

“What are you doing here?!” Mystify whispered back. “Why aren’t you with your family??”

“Twilight helped me,” Hurricane replied. “Your prophecy mentioned princes of water, right? I deserve to be a part of this prophecy, too.”

Mystify stood up. “You need to go back home. Your mother will be looking for you.”

The prince scoffed. “Please, me and my sister go wandering off all the time.”

“For days?”

“Well, no, but is something bad really gonna happen if I go?”

Mystify rubbed her forehead. “Give me a minute.”

She sat down and shut her eyes. She was starting to get a migraine with how many visions she had been searching through for the past few days. She found a few outcomes where they get arrested or even executed for “kidnapping” the prince.

“You’re not coming,” she said sternly. Hurricane opened his mouth, offended. “I’m sorry, your highness, but after your near assassination I cannot let you leave your kingdom or give your mother a scare.”

Hurricane closed his mouth, glaring.

“Not only that, but do you understand how much danger you’d be putting yourself and my friends in?” Mystify quizzed.

“I’m very much aware of the danger,” the prince said, taking a few steps forward. “But I want to help. Please, just let me have this.”

Mystify furrowed her brows and dropped her gaze. She looked at her talons overlapping each other, thinking. Hurricane frowned.

“Well, even if you say no, I’ll follow you anyway.”

“Then we’ll lead you back to the kingdom,” Mystify said back.

“You don’t have time,” the prince said matter of factly.

The NightWing’s brows furrowed. He was right, they didn’t have time. She wrinkled her snout and shut her eyes tightly.

Mystify looked up at him. His gaze was almost pleading. She groaned out a sigh and rubbed under her glasses. “Gosh, dang it, fine. But you’re explaining to them why you’re here in the morning.”

Chapter 15: Not a real chapter

Chapter Text

Heya! It's been a long while, huh?

The reason for that is because I'm not super proud of this story. I love the characters and the plot I've made, I don't like the way it's been written. It's not a good representation of my writing.

Because of this, I will be orphaning this version of the story.

HOWEVER. I do want to continue this since, as I said before, I still love the characters and plot. So it will be rewritten.

I can't promise when, but just know it's coming. It won't be my main focus but I will work on it. I always have like ten different tabs open for Google Docs.

I'll be keeping this up on my account for a bit before orphaning it, and I may keep it up UNTIL I publish the rewritten version.

With that said, thank you for the sweet comments and all the kudos!
