Chapter 1: The Odd, But Refined Gentleman

Summary:

Returning from a case, Edgeworth finds a man on his couch.

Chapter Text

Edgeworth closed the door to the office, briefcase in hand with the expectation of having a regular after trial afternoon.

He and Wright had finished up with another 3 day long trial that again ended victoriously for the defense attorney. Though Edgeworth couldn't complain, as he is now more focused on uncovering the truth than just winning.

Edgeworth looked at the interior and saw that everything is perfectly normal and spotless with naught a thing out of place, well except for a person sleeping on his couch.

Wait, what?

Edgeworth did a double take when he saw the person, analyzing the appearance. It was a man with dark brown hair tied into a long, thin ponytail as evident by the hair that flowed into the floor. The clothing was awfully complicated yet rather refined. He appears to be asleep, and not dead thankfully. He had to deal with being the defendant once and he doesn't need to be one again.

The prosecutor put down his briefcase as he cautiously approached the mysterious man on his couch. "Excuse me," He began as he stood in front of him. "I would appreciate it if you explain why you're in a prosecutor's office or I shall have to call security on you."

At his words, the man began to open his eyes, squinting them as he took a look around, and they eventually landed on Edgeworth. Upon noticing his presence, he began to haul himself up into a sitting position to look into his eyes directly and to get a good look around the office.

Before he could though, Edgeworth continued with his line of questioning. "I expect an answer this instant. Don't wear my patience thin."

"I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question." The man responded, managing to maintain a neutral expression towards the prosecutor, but Edgeworth could see that there was a hint of confusion in his eyes.

Still, Edgeworth wasn't going to let up on the matter so easily. "Don't play dumb. There's no way you could've stayed in my office undetected for a long period of time."

"I assure you, I do not know how I ended up here." The man shook his head, his stare was more of a glare if anything, the red eyeliner under his eyes intensified the stare.

"Then how come I found you sleeping on my couch?"

"I also do not know the answer."

Edgeworth had no idea what to do next. There were no signs of a break-in, though the man could've been a talented person to cover his tracks, and the man doesn't know how he got here either. Sure it's possible he's lying but he couldn't see a sign that he is.

That's when his phone rang, startling both him and the man.

Edgeworth took out the phone and answered it, not bothering to check who's interrupting. "Yes?"

"Edgeworth!" That was Wright's voice. "I need your help, I have a little problem."

"Wright, I'm a little busy myself at the moment, what do you want?"

"Well...I found this girl who claims to be from another world and she can do some really magic like stuff. I was hoping you could come over to assist? Maya went back to Kurain with Pearls, so I thought you were the next best option."

Edgeworth blinked, dumbfounded. So Wright found someone too? Is this just a coincidence? It has to be, there's no way these two mysterious people they found could be connected in any way.

"Did she claim to not know how she ended up in your office too?"

"What? You experienced the same?!"

"Apparently so."

"Wow...this is getting crazier. I mean, me and you finding people who may or may not be from another world at the same time."

"It does sound like hogwash."

"Anyways, can you please help? Oh and maybe bring whoever ended up with you as well. Yanfei should be able to recognize them."

"Yanfei?" Edgeworth didn't miss the way that the man's eyes widen slightly at the mention of this girl.

"Oh, that's the name of the girl I found."

"I see, very well I'll be there shortly with the person I found as well."

"Thanks! See you soon!" With that, Wright hung up, and Edgeworth put his phone back into his pocket.

"I believe we shall need to go now. Promise me that you won't be too much trouble as we go to Wright's office now."

"I understand."

Edgeworth started to make his way to the door, with the man standing up to follow. "What is your name by the way?"

"Zhongli, what about you good sir?"

"Miles Edgeworth."
