Yeah...key word: "plan". Ren planned a trip to Destinyland with the whole group, to celebrate him and his peers graduating from Shujin. Unbeknownst to Goro, Ren wanted to 'confess his undying love to him one way or another', as Ryuji would put it. The Thieves were obviously on board with the plan.
