You're my favorite cat

Summary:

Glaz and Kapkan watch a movie, and argue about who is the jealous one in the relationship

Notes:

Dii requested: "You’re jealous aren’t you?” “I’m not jealous.” for Glaz/Kapkan, and this was irresistible to me. Now featuring my and my friend's old HC about Kapkan's cat!

EDIT: Dii made cute art about the story, how awesome is she? <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Kapkan was staring at him. Again. It was funny, how he would pretend not to, and quickly look back at the television whenever Glaz peeked at him. However, he wasn't fooling anyone.

They were watching a Tarkovsky film, because Kapkan loved old films, especially science fiction ones. However, Glaz was more focused on trying to catch the hunter while glaring at him. Well, he was quite sure Kapkan wasn't glaring at him, but at Marsha. The cat also demanded affection constantly, headbutting his hand if Glaz dared to stop petting her. Occasionally, she also bit his fingers, and those needle-like teeth hurt more than expected, even though she was probably being playful.

Before the movie, she had been curled up on Kapkan’s lap, but as soon as Glaz started to covertly sketch them, she jumped to play with the pencil and made it impossible for him to continue. And when Kapkan tried to call her back, she ignored him and settled on Glaz's lap, kneading his thighs with her paws and purring. He hadn't had the heart to push her away. Now here he was, petting her head and scarred ear, while she looked at him with an adoration usually reserved for Kapkan.

Speaking of whom, he was glaring at them again, and Glaz finally was able to nail down what his expression was. "You are jealous, aren't you?"

"I'm not jealous," Kapkan scoffed, eyes trained on the screen. Then, in a stage whisper that was perfectly heard, he added, "You're the one who was jealous of a cat, not me."

"You will never let me live that down, will you?" Glaz groaned. "I didn't know she was a cat, all I knew was that one day you told me you won't arrive on time to our date because Marsha kept me awake all night and I'm tired ."

"She was sick and I spent all night mopping up puke and making sure she was hydrated, of course I was tired." While Glaz thought Kapkan's soft side was adorable, that was not the point and he told the hunter as much. "You really thought I had a woman in my bed after I agreed to go out with you?"

In hindsight, it was hilarious.

He jumped to conclusions and felt hurt when Kapkan invited him to come meet Marsha. However, Glaz accepted, having some sort of morbid curiosity to see who was his competition for the hunter's heart. Needless, to say, when he saw the tiny, fluffy white kitten, Glaz was gobsmacked. The only reason he didn't burst out laughing was because the sight of Kapkan hugging a small cat to his chest made him melt.

"I didn't know what to think!" Glaz defended himself, softening when he saw Kapkan was genuinely offended. "I was unsure if you realised… I know now I was being stupid. But if you called her by her full name instead of Marsha, I wouldn't have been so confused."

He half expected Kapkan to complain about Marshmallow being a silly name, but instead he said, "I call you Tima, right? And it's Sasha, not Alexsander, unless he pisses me off. So she is Marsha, and I use Marshmallow when I scold her."

That made sense. The hunter always used diminutives for the people he was close with, and he adored the cat. Glaz hummed in answer, still convinced that Kapkan had been glaring in jealousy. It was not his fault Marsha wanted to be with him rather than Kapkan!

Their attention went back to the movie, Glaz petting the cat absentmindedly and Kapkan only looking at them very occasionally.

After a while, Marsha jumped off of him, presumably to drink water or eat. And as soon as she trotted away, Kapkan scooted closer and laid down, using the sniper's lap as a pillow. The barely concealed smugness was what finally tipped Glaz into this revelation: Kapkan truly was jealous of the cat stealing Glaz’s attention, not of him having Marsha's attention. Or perhaps it was both, who knew. The hunter was quite possessive after all.

"You are so petty," Glaz laughed, lovingly combing Kapkan's hair with his fingers. "Don't worry, you're my favourite kitten."

"Don't be silly. I'm a lone wolf, not a cat."

More like a domestic dog at best, Glaz thought, rolling his eyes. "Really? Because I bet if you could, you'd be purring right now. And you also bite, and are very territorial, and love to cuddle during naps, and hunt for fun. Oh, and you do have a collar too."

"Cut it out or I'll bite you now ." As a threat, it lacked conviction, especially when Kapkan closed his eyes and so blatantly enjoyed the way Glaz was playing with his hair.

The sniper held back a smirk, and pretended to be deep in thought. “Maybe I should get you matching cat ears. Do you prefer the fluffy kind or non-fluffy?”

“Over my dead body,” Kapkan grumbled, doing his best to give him a deadly glare while Glaz was still petting his hair.

"What a grumpy kitten you are," Glaz sighed in an exaggerated way, booping his nose. Kapkan glared at him in silence, before he looked at the screen again. A true display of love, for if it had been anyone else they wouldn't get away scott free.

When Marsha came back she meowed once, as if demanding her seat back, before hopping onto Kapkan’s chest. She headbutted the hunter's chin once before laying down, flat as a purring pancake on top of the hunter.

They made an adorable picture, and Glaz kept sneaking glances at them, committing the image to memory so he'd be able to sketch it later. After all, it was his favorite thing to draw, his partner doing mundane things. He had a sketchbook filled with those, and it was a crime he hadn’t drawn him with Marsha yet.
