soundless flames

Summary:

Rune Saint John walks through an overgrown garden of memories, grief, the remnants of those he loves, and finds a familiar face at the end of it all.

Notes:

I wrote this just over a year ago, and I figured this is as good a time as any to let it breathe out in the world. Because now I find that I can read through it without feeling like I'm swallowing blades. I had an idea floating around in my head about the Tarot characters facing the worst of their fears and anxieties in a dream-like setting, but I didn't write it until I was in a dark, dark place. And always, when I'm in that state, I end up processing the worst of myself by writing poems. Never prose, weirdly. There's something more raw and immediate about poetry. And always, I do it through characters - sometimes mine, sometimes others - because that gives me better space to breathe and explore.

So this is Rune's pain stirred into a pot with mine and sprinkled with a dash of hope.
