Work Text:

The soft morning sun peaked above the horizon, illuminating the world in a soft glow. Birdsong begins floating through the treetops as the world awakes, the morning dew casting rainbows along the grass. The curtain billows gently in the morning breeze, streams of sunlight flood into the bedroom. Ranboo’s eyes flutter open, his breath still steady. Cool spring air fills their lungs as he takes a deep breath. Sitting up he blinks slowly looking out the window. The air filled with pink cherry blossoms. The sounds of a bustling city make their way through the open window, people selling bread, vegetables and material goods. With a huff Ranboo pushes himself out of bed, his feet softly padding against the wooden floors as they make their way down the hall.

After getting dressed Ranboo heads out for the day, he’s supposed to meet Tubbo by the bee dome. Ranboo steps out into the bustling streets of new L’manburg, the smell of the morning food from the stalls waft over him. People rushing about their daily life flood the street. Walking along the wooden road a flower stall catches their eye, pink tulips are in season. Tubbo’s favourite he recalls. He walks up to the stand, “Excuse me? How much is a bunch of the pink tulips?”
“Ah, for a group of five it’ll be two pounds!” The shopkeeper smiled at Ranboo, his eyes crinkling at the corners. Ranboo takes the flowers from the man's shaky hands.
‘Thank you!” He warbles out with a smile.

Ranboo approaches the dome, a slight skip in his step now. The buzzing from the bees just barely audible as he walks closer. The door opens with a soft creak as Ranboo peaks his head in. The midday sunlight beams through the glass roof of the dome, covering the tree in the center with a bright light. Scanning the room, Ranboo spots Tubbo tending to a hive on the far wall. The goat hybrid is kneeling beside the hive, daisies adorn his hair. Ranboo just watches as the smaller rushes about collecting today's honey and replanting flowers. A soft smile makes its way onto Ranboo’s face, warmth floods his core. The sunlight from the roof illuminates the smaller in a golden light which bounces off his horns, his hair now golden brown. As he turns his eyes sparkle meeting Ranboo’s.
“Oh! Hello boo,” Tubbo smiles at them “I didn’t hear you come in”.
Tubbo walks closer wiping the dirt from his hands onto his overalls. A smudge is visible on his cheek, Ranboo notices, a light dust of pollen in his hair.
“Sorry,” Ranboo sheepishly rubs his neck. “I forgot you fixed the door, the creak usually announces my arrival for me.”
Tubbo chuckles “Yea it usually does.” Tubbo looks up at Ranboo, making eye contact. Ranboos eyes shift away quickly.
“So uh what's the plan then” Ranboo inquires and he heads towards the door. Tubbo skips alongside them.
“Well,” Tubbo says, glancing at Ranboo, “I was just thinking we could hangout around town a bit, get to know each other.” Tubbo shrugs. “I know we haven’t really had time to chat, I’ve been super busy with president stuff and all that.” Ranboo nods acknowledgingly.

The bustling streets are now quieter as nighttime approaches. The morning stalls are all packed away, now vendors selling sweets and drinks are out for the evening. Tubbo, very excited, rushes over to a desert stall. The smell of fresh honey bread and other sweets surround the vendor. With treats in hand Tubbo skips back over to Ranboo.
“Here! This is one of my favorites” Tubbo says handing a bun to Boo. The roll is a perfect golden brown, shiny from the honey glaze. Ranboo nods his head in thanks as he takes a bite. The taste of the honey just barely tasteable above the sweet bread. Tubbos eyes open expectantly at Ranboo.
“It’s good!” Ranboo says muffled from the bit in his mouth. Tubbo smiles widely at him
“I knew you’d like it.” Tubbo takes a big bite from his bun, eyes closing as he chews, savoring the flavor. “Niki used to make these all the time for me,” Tubbo says, eyes unfocused, “They only started making them here because I specifically asked for them.” Tubbo sighs gently, reminiscing on the past. “Anyway, follow me bossman.” Tubbo beckons Ranboo as he walks towards the edge of town. Ranboo follows hesitantly, playing with the ring on his finger.
“So um,” Ranboos eyes scan the surrounding area, ears perked up, “Where exactly are we going?”
“It’s just somewhere I like to go to chill after a hard day.” Tubbo hums. Ranboo nods, eyes still wavering around. His eyes focus back on Tubbo, his hair in a small loose ponytail. His horns just barely peeking out of his hair at the top of his head. His short tail softly wagging from side to side. Ranboo smiles softly, his tail also wagging gently.

The town square slowly becomes visible as the two approach the top of the hill. A small clearing centered just far enough away from the town that the two were alone, the evening streets a whisper in the distance. The sun setting just behind the town makes the sky a brilliant palette of oranges, pinks and blues.
“Woah!” Ranboo exclaims quietly. “It’s so pretty!” His eyes widen. The square below lights up as the sun sets beneath the horizon.
“I never thought this is what L’manburg would turn out like.” Ranboo turns to look at Tubbo, the hybrid's eyes focused on the people below. “It was just the five of us in the beginning, Tommy, Wilbur, Fundy, Eret and I. I never thought it would get so big, so lively.” Tubbo sighs.
“You did well” Ranboo comments. Tubbo glances over at them, meeting Ranboo’s eyes although this time they don’t look away. “I actually got you something.” Ranboo says bashfully, reaching into his inner blazer pocket. “They are a bit wilted but here.” They hand Tubbo the tulips. Tubbo’s eyes widen, the sparkle back.
“You remembered.” He whispers.
“Yea, I did.” Ranboo looks down rubbing his wrist, “I mean how could I forget?” They look back to Tubbo, a soft smile flashes across his face.
“We should head back.” Tubbo coughs looking away, his cheeks significantly more red. Ranboo laughs.
“Yea, we should. You have important president things to do.”
Tubo playfully punches Ranboo in the arm as the pair head back to town, hearts warm with the beat of butterfly wings. The moon's glow splashing over them blanketing the world in a soft blue glow.
